Skunk Cabbage (Symplocarpus foetidus) leaves have a foetid odor when crushed. The purple "blossom" is a leaf-like sheath around the round spadix, which bears tiny flowers. The structure is more apparent in the dried spadix in the earliest photo. The curled green leaves unfold and grow quite large.
