"Rattlesnake Plantain"

(Goodyera pubescens).

Also called "Lattice Leaf", this orchid was found in sun-dappled shade among mixed pines and hardwoods. Its tiny white flowers encircle the 10 inch tall stem, growing up from the center of a cluster of hairy dark green leaves with light veins.

See Oscar W. Gupton and Fred C. Swope, Wildflowers of Tidewater Virginia (Charlottesville, 1982) 44.
