SURRY COUNTY, VIRGINIA, RESEARCH BY FORREST D. KING, CGOur thanks to Forrest D. King for contributing his fifty-page research paper about the Pittman family and his very long list of Surry County Tax Payers. The Descendants of Thomas Pitman (1614 - about 1686) of Surry County, Virginia, is a MS Word document. Long established in Surry Couny, this family has ties to most other Surry families. Mr. King has kindly created the "Descendants of Thomas Pitman" in "rtf" format, so if you have trouble downloading the MS Word file, you can download the same information in this file, PitmanT.rft, instead.
The list of Surry County Tax Payers or Tithables from 1668 through 1703 is a MS Excel file. Forrest has compiled this long list of 14,581 entries from the Magazine of Virginia Genealogy. It is a large file, bringing together in one place a vast amount of very valuable information about early Surry County tax payers. If you do not have MS Excel or Word on your computer, you can download Open Office, a free open source office suite that can read and write Excel and Word files. We are extremely grateful to Forrest King for sharing his expertise and hard work. Contact him and say "Thanks!
