The second biennial Antiques Appraisal Faire to benefit The Surry County Virginia Historical Society and Museums, Inc. will be held Saturday, May 20, 2017 inside the Surry County, Virginia Parks and Recreation Center. The center is located on route 10 west, shortly beyond the town limits of Surry. The GPS address of the center is 205 Enos Drive, Spring Grove, Virginia.

This event will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The last items for evaluation will be accepted at 3:30 p.m. Assistance will be available to load and unload larger items. Pricing for items to be evaluated is as follows: $10.00 per item; 3 items for $25.00 or 5 items for $40.00. Sets of items will be priced as a single item. Surry County Virginia Historical Society members will pay $7.00 per item. Item tickets are to be purchased at the door. There is no charge to come inside to look at the Historical Society display, purchase food or participate in the "awe" of the items that will be brought in for the renowned experts to examine.

In addition to the Appraisal Faire, vintage vendors will be set up on the grounds from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for your shopping pleasure. Vintage items will include repurposed items, pre-1980 items, painted furniture and much more! Food vendors will also be available on the grounds to calm your munchies.

The Historical Society is very fortunate to be able to present a team of extremely knowledgeable individuals to evaluate the antiques and appraise the owners of the era, approximate value and item specific details. All of the individuals have many years of experience and are well known regionally and in some cases are recognized statewide and nationally as experts in their field. Expertise specific bios are available on this site for you to learn more about each of these individuals.

B. FRANK BISHOP Mr. Bishop has been a vintage bottle collector, scholar, and dealer for over forty years. He is known throughout the southeastern states as one of the foremost authorities on vintage, regional bottles from Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.

Mr. Creekmore primarily focuses on 17th, 18th, and early 19th century American, English, and Continental antiques with a special interest in English and Irish ceramics and in Southern American items. His inventory includes a wide range of period items including paintings, textiles, rugs, furniture, treenware, walking sticks, porcelain, glassware and metal items.

EVE OTMAR

Outside her employment with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Ms. Otmar's personal interests include gunsmithing, finger weaving, scrimshaw, and period clothing. She has spent the last thirty-five years learning finger weaving, twining and early heddle weaving to make beaded sashes, belts and bags that would have been used in the early colonial frontier of America. Her special areas of personal research interests are in textiles and 18th century clothes. In particular, she has focused on woven materials manufactured from bast and animal fibers produced by the native American peoples. Allied to the woven material is a practical knowledge of natural dyes and process gained through the actual practice of dying linen, silk, and wool in the manner that it may have been done in the 18th century.

Ms. Speckheuer is the owner and manager of Fine Art Specialists in Virginia Beach, VA, a company which specializes in handling damaged art, frames, textiles, documents, textiles, photos and other items requiring special handling involved in insurance losses. In addition to her own restoration services, her network includes certified appraisers, a clock restoration specialist and other specialized services for the industry.

PERRY WAYNE STORY

In 1976 Wayne Story, with his father, Henry Story, started the antique shop, Bargain Corner at 4703 County Drive, Disputanta, VA. For many years, the Bargain Corner bought and sold furniture and country store memorabilia. In later years, they begin specializing in country store advertising memorabilia, notably advertising signs, tin and porcelain signs, gas signs and pumps, drink machines, and other country store memorabilia items.
