A typical country store is located at the Twin Springs 4 1/2 miles west of Nickelsville on Rural Route 1. There has been a store at this location for more than half a century.

The fine people who now own and operate the store are Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Vermillion. For many years they have been right there on the job and what a help they have been to their friends and neighbors.

The country store since the early days of the history of Scott County has been a very important institution. The country merchant has played a very telling part in the development of every neighborhood. Whatever surplus products people had, they nearly always disposed of them through the country store keeper. Likewise he was able to supply them with their every need, such as coffee, pepper, salt, sugar and other foods not produced on Scott County farms. Any household could get from their local merchant, school supplies, clothing for all members of the family and if a family needed credit it could always depend on the country merchant.
