Shirley Ann (Bishop) Hall Yakley

June 07, 1940 - February 19, 2015

Shirley Ann Hall Yakley, 74, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday (February 19, 2015) surrounded by her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, working with flowers, and spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Carrie Bishop; brother, Billy Bishop; her first husband and her children’s father, Victory Hall; and husband, Edd Yakley.

She is survived by her children; three daughters, Pamela Bull, Victoria and husband Terry Frost, and April Hall; three sons, George Hall, Randy and wife Tab Hall, and Ronald Hall; four grandchildren, Joey Hall, Priscilla Hinkle, Michael Bowlin, and Sheyenne Frost; several great-grandchildren; three brothers; Sonny, Charles, and Ben Bishop; four sisters, Ruby Bishop, Annies Mclendon, Stella Woods, and Shirlena Reaves.

The family will receive friends on Monday (February 23, 2015) from 5 to 7 p.m. at Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will follow with Pastor Charles Bishop officiating. Interment will be at Hermon United Methodist Cemetery (15175 E Carters Valley Road Gate City) on WEDNESDAY (February 25, 2015) at noon. Those wishing to go in procession are asked to meet at Trinity Memorial Centers by 11:30 am.

Arlon Yankee

(His wife’s mother was a Tipton with all ancestors in Scott Co.)

ROGERSVILLE — Arlon Yankee, 83, of Rogersville, passed away Monday (May 5, 2008) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during War World II. He was of the Christian faith and was a retired employee of Holston Defense.

He was preceded in death by his daddy and mother, Homer and Georgia Yankee; sister, Wanda McLain and husband, Garnie McLain; and two brothers, Dennis and Shelby Yankee .

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma Jean Hunley Yankee of the home; nine children and their spouses, Merrill Yankee of Bybee, Marlon Yankee and wife, Lois of Colorado Springs, Colo., Marsha Frazier and husband, Robert of Raleigh, N.C., Marlene Dobbs and husband, Kenneth of Church Hill, Madonna Hartgrove and husband, Miles of Talbott, Myra Christian and husband, Donnie of Rogersville, Marcella Cradic and husband, Jimmy of Church Hill, Mark Yankee and wife, Christine of Gray, Myron Yankee and wife, Julie of Elizabethton, 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Billy Yankee of Rogersville, Jerry Yankee and wife, Dorothy of Mooresburg and Dilton Yankee and wife, Barbara of Rogersville; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville.

Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Allen Payne, Pastor Kent Aiken and Dr. John Duroe officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at North Fork Cemetery.

Dilton Hunter Yankee

ROGERSVILLE — Dilton Hunter Yankee, 65, passed away on Friday (Nov. 14, 2008) following an extended illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and a member of the Northfork Ruritan Club. A veteran of the Vietnam war, he spent his career serving his country in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Yankee graduated from Church Hill High School in 1961 and was a member of their championship football team.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Georgia Yankee; three brothers, Dennis Wayne, Shelby and Arlon Yankee; and sister, Nell Wanda McLain.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Barbara Ellen Yankee; three sons, Dennis Hunter Yankee and wife, Jennifer of Norris, Tenn., Jon Eric Yankee and wife, Laura of Nashville, Tenn. and Jason Patrick Yankee of Rogersville; daughter, Tracy Michelle Johnson and friend, George Driscoll; two brothers; Billy Fred Yankee of Kingsport, and Jerry Yankee and wife, Dorothy of Mooresburg, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Norma Yankee of Rogersville; four grandchildren, Nikki Leigh Johnson, Joshua Doye Johnson, Jacob Hunter Yankee and Logan Daniel Yankee; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted at 6 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Maurice Lay and Rev. Allen Payne officiating.
Graveside services with military honors will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at the Northfork Baptist Church Cemetery. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m. to go in procession.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Hunter Yankee, Jon Eric Yankee, Jason Patrick Yankee, Joshua Johnson, Jamie McLain, George Driscoll, and Marlon Yankee.

Delbert D. Yarnell

OSBORNE - Delbert D. Yarnell, 74, Osborne, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001.

Mr. Yarnell was born March 25, 1927, at Lucas. He had retired as manager of S&W Supply, Osborne.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of the home; a son, Mike of Piano, Texas; a daughter, Sheryl Gorsuch of Osborne; three brothers, Melvin and Eldon, both of Osborne, and Keith of Kansas City Mo.; a sister, Jane Anderson of Osborne and Delilah Wilcoxson of Lacrosse; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Christian Church, Osborne. Burial will be in Osborne Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Osborne County Memorial Hospital or the church.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Clark-Gashaw Mortuary 238 N. First, Osborne 67473.

Annis Lee (Gillenwater) Yoakley

Gate City , VA - Annis Gillenwater Yoakley, of Gate City passed away on Wednesday morning, (February 2, 2011) at home following an extended illness. Annis was a lifelong resident of Scott County .

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She loved to do embroidering, gardening and growing flowers of any kind, especially roses.

Mrs. Yoakley was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest V. Yoakley, Sr.; her parents, Neal and Rosie Gillenwater; brothers, George, Otis, J.C. along with an infant sister, Macy Gillenwater.

Annis Yoakley is survived by her daughter, Judy Smith and husband Anthony; son, Ernest V. Yoakley Jr. and wife Sheila; three grandchildren, Crystal Hasting and husband James, Jessica Eddins and husband Wesley, Adam Yoakley seven great grandchildren, plus one expecting; six step great grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Gillenwater, Donald Gillenwater and wife Phyllis, Ronald Gillenwater and wife Evelyn; four sisters, Elizabeth Bellamy, Cora Mae Gilbert, Juanita Biorck, Linda Williams; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Saturday ( February 5, 2011 ) at Scott County Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday ( February 6, 2011 ) at 2 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Paul Blessing officiating. Music will be provided by the Hass family.

A graveside service will follow the funeral service at Holston View Cemetery with Adam Yoakley, Donald Gillenwater, Ronald Gillenwater, Tim Williams, Dale Gillenwater, Gary Heaton, Eric Biorck and Andrew Williams serving as pallbearers.

Ernest Veron Yoakley Sr.

GATE CITY , Va. - Ernest Veron Yoakley Sr., 86, Route 7, departed this life late Saturday ( July 14, 2001 ) at his residence after an extended illness.

He was a lifelong resident of Scott County and was retired from Tennessee Eastman Corp. in C.E. Maintenance with 42 years of service.

Mr. Yoakley was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Frances Enix.

Denna Willlard Young

Obituary from Kingsport Times-News for descendants of Scott Co Ancestors. 
Husband of Louise Casteel Young b. Scott Co.

KINGSPORT — Denna W. Young , 92, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Sunday (April 27, 2008).

He was born May 3, 1915, in Ripley, W.Va., and was the son of the late Franklin and Elpha (Vannest) Young .

Denna retired from the Dupont Belle Meade plant after 35 years of service. He and his wife moved to Greeneville in the early 1980’s where they lived until recently. Mr. Young was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Greeneville. He loved his Savior and was looking forward to going home after a long life of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Richard Young ; eight brothers, Homer, Lewis, William, Gilbert, Owen, Charles, Howard and Robert Young ; and one sister, Hazel Young .

He is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Louise C. Young ; stepson, William McConnell; stepdaughter, Loretta Rice; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. David Green officiating.

Graveside services will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be friends and family.

Louise (Casteel) McConnell Young

Obituary from Kingsport Times-News for descendants of Scott Co Ancestors

KINGSPORT — Louise C. Young, 90, went to be with her Lord on Friday Oct. 24, 2008.

Louise was born in Dungannon, Va. She and Denna lived in Scott Depot, W.Va. and moved to Greenville, Tenn. after Denna retired from Dupont Chemicals in 1978. Louise and Denna loved to travel and took advantage of their early years in retirement to explore the U.S. They were long-time members of First Baptist Church, Greeneville, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 65 years, Denna Willard Young; her son, Richard Young; her parents, Arthur Casteel and Susie Hall Casteel; her brothers, Omar, Phillip, Paul, Carson and Logan; her sisters, Nannie, Pauline, Panna Blevins, Ella Blevins, Lula Ramsey, Jessie Smith; and her half-brother, Nathan.

She is survived by her son, William Jack McConnell and his wife, Peggy, and her daughter Loretta. She is also survived by her half-sisters, Emily Franklin and Jeannette Henry; as well as six grandchildren, Teresa Carter, Gary McConnell, Russell Rice, Tina Lucas, Richard Young, Pam Grimes; several great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday at East Lawn Funeral Home from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel at 1:30 p.m. with Dr. David Green officiating.

Graveside services will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Samuel Ozro "Honey" Young

STICKLEYVILLE, Va. - Samuel "Honey" Ozro Young, 56, went to be with his Lord Saturday (July 12, 2003) at his home in Stickleyville after a lengthy illness.

Born in Duffield, Va., he was a son of Nelle Ann Young and the late Willie G. Young. He attended the Red Hill Memorial Church at Pattonsville and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the Army National Guard. He was a lieutenant with the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Corrections for over 30 years.

Sam was a loving husband, dad, son, papaw, brother and friend. He was also loved by his many nieces and nephews.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Jean Young; sons, SSgt. Samuel Scott Young (USAF) and his wife Kelley, Mt. Holly, N.J., and SSG. Douglas Anthony Young, U.S. Army, Tampa, Fla.; daughter, Cecilia Ann Slater and her husband GySgt (S) Eric (USMC), Crofton, Md.; mother, Nelle Ann Young Hawkins and her husband Clyde; sister, Juanita Young Morgan and husband Wayne, Kingsport; brothers, Robert Franklin Young and wife Phyllis, Billy Wayne Young and wife Kay, Lloyd David Young and wife Belva, all of Duffield, Va., and Glenn Rhea Young of Pennington Gap, Va.; three stepchildren, Ricky DeHart and wife Lori, Melissa Vickers and Keith DeHart, all of Asheboro, N.C.; six stepgrandchildren.

Wellington Fulton Young

STICKLEYVILLE, Va. - Wellington F. Young, 73, died Thursday [4/27/1967] in Catawba Hospital.

He was a life-long resident of Stickleyville, a retired farmer and a member of the Mountain View Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Bertha Young; four sons, Hubert Young, Vandalia, Ohio; Harold Young, Stickleyville; Essie Young, Newark, Ohio; Sam Young, Sheridan, Ind.; two daughters, Mrs. Bobbie Spivey, Stickleyville, and Mrs. Loriane Lawson, Greenfield, Ind.; a brother, Forest Young, Virginia Beach, Va.; a half-brother, Paul Early, Kingsport; a sister, Mrs. Carrie Peters, Stickleyville; a half-sister, Mrs. Mattie Davidson, Arno, Va.; 18 grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today in the Mountain View Baptist Church with Rev. Coy Lawson, Rev. Alec Willis and Rev. Bryan Moore, officiating.

Burial will be in the family cemetery.

The body will remain at the Sturgill Funeral Home until time of services.

Margaret Elnora (Moore) Breeding Zaragoza

LIMESTONE – Margaret Elnora Zaragoza, 62, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2009.

Ms. Zaragoza was born on Jan. 31, 1947 in Kingsport to the late George Carson Moore and Mary Ellen Benton. She had lived in the local area most of her life. Ms. Zaragoza was a graduate of Ketron High School and had earned a nursing degree. She was employed at Greene Valley Development Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Paul Moore.

Surviving are her son, Lincoln Breeding; two daughters, Onda Wilson and Nikki Hoilman and husband, Sid; three grandsons, Slater Wilson, Brandon Wilson, and Sidney Hoilman Jr.; five granddaughters, Cortney Carr, Katy Lujan, Kayla Gillenwater, Alicia Breeding and Mindy Guinn; a great-grandson, Jason Guinn; four great-granddaughters, Lea Carr, Kira Breeding, Andreal Breeding and Anna Lisa Guinn; and two brothers, Colby Moore and Bobby Moore, all of Kingsport.

Mary Jane (Hilton) Zimmerman

Mary J. Hilton Zimmerman, 69, 6025 Orebank Rd., Kingsport, died Monday (April 4, 1994) at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Cen­ter after a brief illness.

She was born in Scott County, Va., and was a lifelong resident of Kingsport. She had worked at Eastman many years ago, and was a graduate of Shoemaker High School and Whitney's Busi­ness College. She was a home­maker, and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Zimmer­man in 1983; her parents, Dota Fugate Hilton and George Hilton; and one grandson.

Surviving are one son, Robert Lee Zimmerman, Kingsport; and two grandchildren.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at East Lawn Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Martin Stokes officiating.

Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Graveside services will be con­ducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Garden of the Good Shepherd.

Robert Lee “R.L.” Zimmerman

KINGSPORT — Robert Lee “R.L.” Zimmerman, 61, went home to be with his Lord, Saturday ( June 13, 2009 ) at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church , Morristown and former member of Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church , Morehead City , N.C.

R.L. received his BS degree from East Tennessee State University , Masters Degree from University of Mississippi and did post graduate work at East Tennessee State University . He taught social studies in the Sullivan County School System for 30 years, retiring in May 1999.

R.L. served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 through 1973. After basic training in Orlando , Fla. , he completed advanced training at Naval Communications Training Center , Corry Field, Pensacola , Fla. , where he became a communications technician, technical branch. R.L. then served at Naval Security Group Activity in Kamiseya , Japan , and later at NSGA Misawa , Japan . The Naval Security Group is a component of the National Security Agency whose main mission is intelligence gathering. He received several commendations during his tenure with NSGA.

Traveling and learning about different cultures was his passion. While stationed in Japan , R.L. traveled, immersing himself in the culture, local traditions, and the Japanese language. Later, he traveled throughout Europe , the Caribbean Islands and the United States — especially the Southwest.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Brian and Travis; and parents, Roy Lee and Mary Jane Hilton Zimmerman.

Survivors include his wife, Joanie “Cowden” Zimmerman; son, Les and wife, Theresa Chee; grandson, Kenneth and wife, Kim Francis; special young lady, Beverly Hall and lifelong friends, Patrick Kerber and Bruce Mozelle.

Services were held Monday ( June 15, 2009 ) at Mayes Family Services of Morristown with Rev. Barris Doyal officiating.

A private family burial was held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kingsport .

Paul Emerson Zion

CANTON, Ga. — Paul E. Zion, 74, of Canton, Ga., (formerly of Kingsport), went to be with the Lord on Tuesday (Feb. 24, 2009) at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.

Born in Slant, Va., Paul had lived most of his life in Kingsport and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Ketron Memorial United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Zion; his parents, Luther and Eliza Starnes Zion.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori Cordell and husband, Bobby, of Canton, Ga.; two grandchildren, Bobby Cordell II and Vanessa Cordell; two sisters, Aleta Zion, of Irvin, Tex., and Linda Abbott and husband, John, of Kingsport; one brother, John Zion and wife, Terri of Chester, S.C.; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga St., Kingsport.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jack Edwards officiating.

Burial will follow at Old Kingsport Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 3/265 and TN Army National Guard.

Susan Elizabeth “Eliza, Sue” (Starnes) Zion

Eliza (Sue) Zion , 72, 322 Walker St. , Kingsport , died this morning at Holston Valley Hospital & Medical Center after a long illness.

    A native of Scott County , Va. , she had resided in Kingsport most of her life and was a member of Ketron Memorial United Methodist Church .

    She was preceded in death by husband, Luther M. Zion in February 1980.

    Surviving are two daughters, Ms. Linda Falin, Kingsport and Mrs. Aleta Sauls, Dallas, Texas; two sons, John Zion and Paul Zion, both of Kingsport; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Callie Egan, Kingsport and Mrs. Cornelius Taylor, Ft. Blackmore, Va.; two brothers, Emmett Starnes, Kingsport and Henry Starnes, Bristol, Va.

    Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home.
