NORTON, Va. — Anna Leola Williams, 87, passed away Sunday (Nov. 2, 2008) at the Mountain View Regional Medical Center Norton, Va.

She was a member of the West Norton Freewill Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Dundy Franklin Williams; a daughter, Juanita Faye Williams; and a grandson, Roy Lee Page Jr.

Surviving are a son, Jimmy F. Williams Sr. and his wife, Carolyn of Norton, Va; a daughter, Anna Lou Page and her husband, Roy of Wise, Va.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise, Va.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Glenn Ritchie officiating.

Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery, Norton, Va.

KLAMATH FALLS, Oreg. — Agnes Couch Williams, 83, passed away Wednesday evening, (Jan. 30, 2008) at Sky Lakes Medical Center, Klamath Falls, Oregon.

She was born in St. Paul, Va. then resided in Gray, Tenn. before making Kingsport her home. Mrs. Williams was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She loved life and she loved to laugh. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, and spending time outdoors.

Mrs. Williams was a faithful servant to our Lord Jesus Christ and now rests in peace with our creator. She was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church in Kingsport.

Her husband, Cecil H. Williams; four brothers, Dule, Adam, Jack and Floyd Couch; and one sister, Freida Couch preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Dennis Williams and companion, Susan McKinney of Knoxville, Tenn, Darryl Williams and wife, Jackie of Kingsport; one daughter, Carolyn Teig and husband, Dean of Tulelake, Calif.; two sisters, Lozie Couch of Kingsport and Cosby Cox of Castlewood, Va.; and four grandchildren, Adam Williams of Kingsport, Ashley Williams Taylor of Kingsport and Madison and Eric Teig of Tulelake, Calif.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Interment will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Charles Roberts of Glenwood Baptist Church officiating.

Pallbearers will be Darryl Williams, Dennis Williams, Adam Williams, Justin Taylor, and Tony Frazier.

KINGSPORT - Albert B. Williams , 99, Rogersville and formerly of Kingsport, died Sunday (Feb. 21, 1999) at Holston Valley Medical Center after an extended illness.

Born in Scott County, Va., he had lived most of his life in Kingsport. He moved to Surgoinsville in 1982. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lottie V. Williams ; his parents, Henry and Margarite Buckles Williams ; a daughter, Nieta Williams Tate; sisters, Maude Salling, Tish Chandler and Linda Crouba; and brothers, Bill Williams , Mitch Williams and Arley Williams .

Surviving are three daughters, Jean Thacker, Surgoinsville, Ruby Ackers and Nancy Vassallo, both of Lynchburg, Va.; three sons, Billy Williams , Dungannon, Va., Orbin Williams , Bristol, Tenn., and Charles Williams , of the home; 29 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Etta Miles, Dungannon, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her husband, Calvin Williams, Clinchport; two daughters, Miss Vilas Anne Williams, and Miss Beverly June Williams, both of Clinchport; three sons, Harry Lee Williams, Calvin Wendell Williams, and Jerry Matthew Williams, all of Clinchport; three sisters, Mrs. Tina Hopkins of Gate City; Mrs. Mildred Frazier of Duffield, and Mrs. Ruby Bowen of Gate City; two brothers, Elmer Austin of Clinchport, and Bill Austin of Duffield.

KINGSPORT — Arthur Fay Williams, 83, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Sunday (Nov. 23, 2008) with his family by his side.
Mr. Williams was born on March 20, 1925 in Manville, Va., to the late Robert B. Williams and Minnie Musick Williams. After his marriage to Margie Carter of Rye Cove on April 19, 1947, the couple moved to the West Carter's Valley area of Kingsport in 1952. He was employed at Eastman Chemical Company for over 39 years serving in the Tenite Plastics Division until his retirement in 1986.

Mr. Williams served his country during World War II in the United States Army from May 21, 1943 until Dec. 14 1945. He served in both the European Theater and the Asiatic Pacific Theater and received the EAMET Campaign Medal with four Bronze Service Stars and the Victory Medal.

Mr. Williams was a shy, humble Christian man who backed up his faith by the love and devotion he showed to all those who knew him including family, friends, neighbors and coworkers. He was a 58 year member of the Clinch- port Masonic Lodge No. 267 F&AM. He was a great inspiration to all who knew him and left behind a great example to follow. He had a wonderful sense of humor that will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his sister, Reba Kilgore; brothers, Frank E., Carson E., Claude B., Edsel K. and Hoyt O. Williams.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 61 years, Margie Carter Williams, of the home; daughter, Jenny Lou Frady and husband, Gary, of Church Hill; son, Joel A. Williams, of Kingsport; granddaughters, Candace Skelton and husband, Jason, of Church Hill, Brooke Robinette and husband, Kevin, of Whitmire, S.C. and Erin Thomas and husband, Devin, of Church Hill; great-granddaughters, Mia Skelton, Macie Skelton and Jenna Thomas; great-grandson, Curtis Robinette; sister, Bernice Bray and husband, Hoyt, of Kingsport; brother, Clayton O. Williams and wife, Margaret, of Blountville; along with many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home, 2060 US Highway 23N, Weber City, Va.

Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. John Owston, Rev. Alan Buckles and Rev. Paul Lane officiating.

Military graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holston View Cemetery with the Virginia National Guard and the American Legion Hammond Post 265 conducting the rites. Family and friends who wish to attend the graveside are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. to go into procession.

KINGSPORT - Audrey Margaret Ely Williams , 90, 4345 Bloomingdale Road, died at 9:10 p.m. Thursday ( Dec. 2, 1999 ) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a lingering illness.

Born in Jonesville , Va. , she came to Kingsport in 1932. She taught school for a number of years and enjoyed cooking and playing the piano. Mrs. Williams was a member of the Arcadia United Methodist Church .

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hampton L. Williams ; a daughter, Patricia Jane Parks; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Surviving are two daughters, Peggy McKenzie and husband, Bob, Tampa, Fla., Sharon Livesay, Kingsport; three sons, H. Loyd Williams Jr. and wife, Barbara, Kingsport, Thomas N. WEBER CITY, Va. - Dorothy Cross Williams, 89, went to be with the Lord at 3:35 p.m. Monday (Feb. 12, 2007) while at the Brian Center for Health and Rehabilitation, Weber City, Va. after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Sullivan County and was the daughter of the late William Carter and Katherine Slaughter Cross on Nov. 3, 1917. She was of the Methodist faith and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carson Echol Williams; son, Billy Ray Williams; brother, Newton Cross; and several half-brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Phyllis Williams of Weber City, Va.; special granddaughter, Lisa Spivey and husband, Gerald of Cleveland, Tenn.; two special great-grandchildren, Andy and Adam Spivey; several nieces and nephews and other family members also survive.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the East Chapel of Scott County Funeral Home.

The funeral will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Clayton Williams and Rev. Paul Blessing officiating.

Burial will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Holston View Cemetery. It is requested that family and friends meet at the funeral home by 12:30 p.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.

GATE CITY, Va. - Edsel K. Williams, 73, Alley Valley community, died Saturday (March 12, 2005) at his residence.

He was born in Gate City, Va. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force as a TEC sergeant and Eastman Chemical Company as chemical operator.

He was a lifetime member of the Copper Creek Ruritan Club and attended Copper Creek Community Church.

Mr. Williams was a fine bluegrass guitar player who had many musical friends. He also enjoyed farming.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Bruce and Minnie Estil Musick Williams; his first wife, Irene Williams; three brothers, Frank, Carson E., and Claude Williams.

He was a lifelong resident of the Norton area. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA for 39 years.

Mrs. A. G. Williams, 66, died at 2 p.m. Thursday [8/15/1946] at her home in the West View Park community. She had been a resident of Kingsport for the past 26 years and was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Flatrock, Va.

WEBER CITY, Va. - Elma D. Williams, 87, died Friday (May 23, 2003) at her home after a brief illness.

She was born and raised in Scott County, Va. She enjoyed many things including her flowers, cooking, grandchildren, and life itself. She was truly a precious mother and grandmother, as well as a great role model for all of those who knew her.

Mrs. Williams was of the Pentecostal faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Kate Hammond; her husband, Monroe Williams; infant daughter, Judith Ann Williams; son, Hansel Williams; grandson, Tommy Lynn Johnson; sister, Mattie Spears; brother, Herbert Hammond.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Francis and David Sluss, Jean and Roy Kaylor, all of Church Hill, Ilene and Tommy Johnson, Weber City; special brother and sister-in-law, Ewell and June Hammond, Kingsport; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

A native of Kingsport, he attended the Salvation Army Church.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Elmer Williams Sr., 76, of Sacramento, Calif., (formerly of Kingsport), passed away Sunday (Jan. 18, 2009) at Mercy Sanjuan Medical Center in Sacramento.

Born in Kingsport, Elmer had lived in several places before moving to Sacramento. He was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Walter Hagen Williams; son, Elmer Williams, Jr.; daughter, Vanessa Parsons; parents, Hagen and Grace Williams; mother-in-law, Granny Pendergrass.

Elmer is survived by two daughters, Libby Marshall and Noreen Williams, both of Kings- port; two sons, John and Gary Williams, both of Kingsport; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Faye Barnett and husband, Thomas, of Kingsport and Marlene Young, of Dora, Ala.; one brother, Ronald Williams and wife, Clairene, of Kingsport; along with several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date.

GATE CITY, Va. — Ethel T. Williams, 85, of the Daniel Boone community passed away on Sunday, (Dec. 23, 2007) at Church Hill Healthcare.

She was born in Hancock County, Tenn. on Dec. 31, 1921. She was a Baptist. She attended Rye Cove High School. She was all county forward in basketball and she loved gardening, loved flowers, quilting and was a craft maker as well as a seamtress. She also wrote a romance novel and wrote poetry.

She was preceeded in death by her father, James Lynch; mother, Mariah Falin Lynch; sisters, Bonnie McDavid, Sarada Duncan, Hazel Goode and Annie Oliver; brothers, Lee Roy Lynch, Kyle Lynch, Elijah Lynch, and infant Denny Lynch.

Surviving are her daughter, Ophelia Williams and husband, James of Blountville; sister-in-law, Kate Lynch of Duffield, Va.; sister, Madeline Maness and husband. Carl of Blountville; special nephew, Darrell Lynch of Fairfield, N.J.; several nieces and nephews.

GATE CITY, Va. - Eugene Quentin Williams, 82, entered into rest Monday (Aug. 22, 2005) at his residence.

He was born in Scott County, Va., on Feb. 16, 1923 to the late William Andrew Johnson Williams and Cora Edna Vickers Williams.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Williams; five sisters and four brothers.

Mr. Williams was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He taught for several years at the Skill Center in Abingdon, Va., until leaving to teach at Virginia High in the Bristol, Va., City School System, retiring in 1985.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Jeanne Wampler Williams, Gate City, Va.; sister, Lois Smith Wolfe, Kingsport; special brother-in-law, Carl Butler Kilgore, Gate City, Va.; special nephew, Quentin Russell Kilgore; all of his nieces and nephews that he loved so dearly and the children that made his life worthwhile.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Paul Blessing and the Rev. Johnny Kendrick officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va., with a military flag ceremony conducted by Otis Lawson of the American Legion Hammond Post #265 of Gate City, Va. A trumpet solo will be provided by Marc Strand.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Ezra Leon Williams, 86, Kingsport, TN passed away, Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Holston Manor.

Mr. Williams was born in Scott County, VA on March 20, 1925 , son of the late Henry and Ethel Bellamy Williams.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was an avid member of the V.F.W., American Legion, Eagles, and the Moose Lodge. He was a past commander of the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the V.F.W. and was retired from the Meade after 40 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael David Williams, brothers, Ambers, Paul, Willie, John, Alvin , and Carl Williams; sisters, Mary Williams, Pat Kerns, Shirley Reed, Pearl Grisby; along with several half brothers and sisters; and the mother of his children, Margaret Hite.

Surviving are his son, Stephen Leon Williams, Kingsport, TN; granddaughter, Cecilia Williams; grandson, Camaron Williams; dearest friend of 20 years, Bessie Ward, Kingsport, TN; sisters, Rose Cooper, Kingsport, TN, Lola Minnich and husband, Kelsie, Kingsport, TN; mother of his children, Frances Larkin, Church Hill, TN; several nieces, nephews, half brothers and sisters.

RICHLANDS, Va. - Garland Williams, 84, formerly of the Rosedale community of Russell County, died Tuesday (Nov. 26, 1991) in a Lebanon, Va. hospital after a long illness.

Born in Scott County, Va., he was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Hurd Williams, and his parents, Louis and Mary Ellen Rhoten Williams.

Surviving are three sons, Carl Williams and Lewis Williams, both of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Ronnie Williams, Front Royal, Va.; three daughters, Mrs. Hiester (Wanda) Smith, Milton, Fla., Mrs. Andy (Pat) Harmon, Berea, Ohio, and Mrs. Noel (Betty Jo) Stallard, Richlands, with whom he made his home for the past 1-1/2 years; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Woodrow Williams and Gene Williams, both of Kingsport; and one sister, Mrs. Lois Forgety, Kingsport.

BRISTOL, Va. - George Carmine Williams, 81, passed away Wednesday (June 29, 2005) at his home.

He was born in Gate City, Va., and was the son of the late George Patton and Clara Taylor Williams. He was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He moved to Bristol in 1966 and retired from the Univac Corporation in 1985.

He was a loving Christian father and husband.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Guy H. Williams; and a sister, Floy Williams.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Williams; daughters, Gail Nelson and her husband Danny of Bristol, Tenn., and Lorie "Niecie" Hampton and her husband Brad of Erwin; sons, Dr. Paul D. Williams and his wife Karen of Abingdon, Va., Pat Williams, of the home and Scott Howard Williams and his wife Rebecca N. of Bristol, Tenn.; a sister, Reba Nelson of Kingsport; granddaughter, Amanda Nelson Blevins; grandsons, Adam Williams and Christopher Nelson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born in Scott County, Va., on November 24, 1914, to the late George W. Williams and Pearl Adams Williams. He retired from the C.E. Division of Tennessee Eastman after 41 years, and was an avid grouse and ginseng hunter.

Mr. Williams leaves behind many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Pauline Bledsoe Williams; a daughter, Phyllis Williams; one son, Tommy Kyle Williams; and a sister, Lena Howard.

George Patton Williams, 81, 1302 Mill St., died at 2:30 a.m. Sunday [2/28/1971] at Holston Valley Community Hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Scott County, Va., he had been a resident of Kingsport since 1924. He was employed with Mason & Dixon lines until his retirement in 1954. He was a member of Cedar View Methodist Church.

CHURCH HILL —Gladys Inez Williams, born April 25, 1933, in Hawkins County, Tennessee, went to join her beloved husband, Patrick Williams Jr., in heaven Tuesday (Jan. 9, 2007) surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

She was of the Christian faith. Gladys was a loving wife, momma, mamaw, and friend, who taught her family by example the tolerance and forgiveness of others.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Patrick Hagan Williams Jr.; her parents, Oscar Kenneth Jones and Cora Ellen Barton Jones; three infant siblings, Jerry Jones, Linda Jones, and Irene Jones; a brother, Oscar Kenneth Jones; sisters, Frances Alexander and Amy Ruth Bellamy; son-in-law and friend "Dirty" Mike Wagner; and niece Debbie Bellamy.

MOUNT CARMEL - Mrs. Hulda Ervin ``Granny'' Williams , 96, formerly of Weber City, Va., went to be with the Lord Friday (Nov. 19, 1999) at the home of her son.

Mrs. Williams was born in Scott County, Va. on Jan. 18, 1903, the daughter of the late Andy Ervin and Alba Penley Ervin. She was a lifelong resident of Scott County, a member of Alley's Chapel Church and retired after 33 years of serving the Scott County School System.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Lee Williams , who died in 1936; her son, Harry Van Williams ; two brothers, Lorn and Wright Ervin; three sisters, Sarah Head, Alice Bellamy and Glady Ervin.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Billy K. and Shirley Williams , Mount Carmel; daughter and son-in-law, Joy Lee and Charles W. GATE CITY , Va. — James “Richard” Williams, 64, passed away Saturday, (Nov. 27, 2010) at Holston Valley Medical Center .

He was a lifelong resident of Gate City , Va. , and was of the Baptist faith. Richard was owner and operator of Williams Heating and Air in Gate City, Va. Richard was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed all the joys of farming; especially the harvesting and canning of the fruits of his labor. He was an avid outdoor man. He was a master tradesman, but his passion and love was sheet metal applications and design. He had a great passion for the genealogy of the Williams and Crooke families dating back to the 1400s.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Thomas Williams and Mary Ellen Crooke Williams; sisters, Cara Sue Williams and Dana Louise Williams.

KINGSPORT - Margaret Rosa Williams, 75, was called to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday (June 3, 2002) at Holston Valley Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Margaret was born August 30, 1926 in Kingsport, a daughter of the late Conley A. and Emma Mae Dinsmore Castle. She was the widow of Rev. Eugene Williams.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Stella Mae Hooper; brother, Frank Oliver Castle, and an infant brother.

NORTON, Va. - Ova Raleigh Williams , 67, died Wednesday ( Jan. 19, 2000 ) in St. Mary's Hospital. A lifelong resident of Wise County , Va. , she attended the Freedom of Worship Church.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Sue Mefford.

GATE CITY , Va. - Paul (Doyle) Williams, 82, died Thursday ( Oct. 5, 2000 ) at his residence following an extended illness.

Born in Scott County , Va. on April 1, 1918 , he was a son of the late William Henry Williams and Ethel Bellamy Williams.

Mr. Williams served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Tennessee Eastman Co. in 1980 after 34 years of service.

He was a member of Sally's Chapel Baptist Church .

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Conley E. Williams; brothers, Ambers Williams, Alvin Williams, Carl Williams and Willie Williams; sisters, Pat Kerns and Mary Williams.

KINGSPORT - Ralph "Burr" Williams, 81, 701 Morison Avenue, went to be with the Lord at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday (May 1, 2001) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a long illness.

A lifelong resident of Kingsport, he served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post No. 3382 of the VFW.

Mr. Williams was employed with Tennessee Eastman Company for 44 years, retiring in 1981.

He was of the Holiness faith.

Mr. Williams was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was born in Scott County, Va., (Manville) moving at an early age. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard, (Gate City). He was of the Baptist faith.

CLINCHPORT, Va. — Elder Samuel Ronnie Williams, 71, Clinchport, Va., went to be with his Heavenly Father on July 1, 2009 , at Indian Path Medical Center .

He attended Mercy Seat Ministries at 376 Bob Jobe Road , Kingsport .

He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Ruth Williams; one sister, Helen Williams; also, Jean Williams, and Betty Williams.

Surviving is his faithful wife, Phyllis Ann Williams; daughters, Elaine Griffith and Teresa Baird; father, Marvin Glenn Williams; and sister, Glenda Waggaman; grandchildren, Celeste Hess, Carrie Hackler, Cathie Clark, Jessica Boyd; great grandchildren, Gregory Hess, Laura Hess, Conner Hackler, Chloe Hackler and Cameron Boyd; step-sons, Mark Aaron Dingus and Brian Anthony Dingus.

It was the wishes of Mr. Williams that he be cremated and there be no formal funeral services.

Mrs. Virginia Franklin Williams, 52, of Route 1, (Smith Shoals Addition) died at 6:30 a.m. yesterday [ 2/14/1981 ] at Indian Path Hospital after an extended illness.

Born in Scott County , Va. , she lived in Kingsport most of her life. She was a former employee of J.P. Stevens Company having retired in Nov. 1980 and also a member of Calvary Baptist Church , past president of member of V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and a member of J.P. Stevens Women's Club and volunteer for American Red Cross.

Surviving are her husband, Carl J. Williams, of the home; one son, Tony Williams, Kingsport; two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Lorraine) Ferrell and Mrs. Bert (Zella) Fleenor, both of Kingsport; seven brothers, Henry C. KINGSPORT - Wallace Ray Williams, Sr., 83, Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday (May 31, 2006), following an extended illness.

He was born and raised in Sullivan County and was a graduate of Sullivan High School. Mr. Williams served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the Philippine Theatre. He retired from Tennessee Eastman after 45 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Masonic Lodge #688. Mr. Williams enjoyed gardening.

As a member of Vermont United Methodist Church, he served as a Sunday School teacher and in recent years had attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church with his family.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Pat and Grace Williams; a son, Wallace Ray Williams, Jr.; a grandson, Wallace Ray Williams, III; brothers, Ralph, Clifton, Hagan, and Hansford Williams; and sisters, Ruby Forbes, Frances Williams, Edna Williams, and Jean Williams;

ROGERSVILLE - Wallace Ray Williams III, 35, 240 Byington Road, died unexpectedly Monday (Sept. 10, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was born in Cheyenne, Wyo., and attended Sullivan Central High School. He graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School and also attended Northeast State College.

He was a disabled veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the DAV and also a member of the Stone Drive Eagles Club.

He was a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church and attended the Fountain of Life Baptist Church in Gray.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace Ray Williams Jr.; and his grandfather, Morris S. Daugherty.

MOUNT CARMEL - Walter "Walt" Lee Williams , 81, 131 Maple St., passed away Friday morning (Nov. 19, 1999) at his residence after a lengthy illness.

Born in Scott County, Va., he had lived in the Mount Carmel area since the early 1950s. He was a veteran of World War II and also served in the Panama and European Theater with the United States Army. He had retired from Tennessee Eastman Company in 1978 with 33 years of service. He served as Firechief of the Mount Carmel Volunteer Fire Department, where he also served as Chaplain. He was lifetime member of the Mount Carmel Volunteer Fire Department. He had donated numerous years of service to the City of Mount Carmel Parks and Recreation Department. He was also a member of the Mount Carmel Senior Citizens. He was a member of Mountain View Independent Baptist Church. He was an Ordained Minister who had pastored several area churches.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Floy Williams ; a daughter, Beth Williams Larkins; father, Robert Williams ; mother, Ona Gilliam Lane.

Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Goforth, Kingsport, Janet Roberts, Knoxville; two sons, Tommy Williams , Church Hill, Mark Williams , Knoxville; four grandsons, Nicky Larkins, Church Hill, Jason Wolfe, and Zane Larkins, both of Gray, Mark Trent, Church Hill; four sisters, Annabelle Cox, Kingsport, Margaret Stewart, Gate City, Mildred McAllister, Kingsport, Ama Lee Spivey, Gate City; three brothers, George Williams , Mount Carmel, Larry Williams , and Gary Williams , both of Gate City; several nieces and nephews.

MOUNT CARMEL - William George Williams, 80, reached the end of his earthly journey Sunday (Sept. 14, 2003) at Holston Valley Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Scott County, Va., and resided in Mount Carmel most of his adult life.

He was a member of Liberty Hill Evangelical Methodist Church. He was a Master Mason in Clay Lodge #386 F&AM and served as Master in 1972. He belonged to The Knoxville Scottish Rite Bodies and was a member of Jericho Shrine Temple.

He retired from Holston Defense Company after 33 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ona Williams Lane and Robert Lee Williams; his sister, Anna Belle Cox; and his brother, Walter Williams.

Surviving are his loving wife, Ruth Williams; two daughters, Linda Miller and husband Rodney of Church Hill and Lana Lane and husband Ron of Mount Carmel; two granddaughters, Kim Carico and husband Tom of Blountville and Kelli Lane of Knoxville; one grandson, Roddy Miller of Church Hill; one great-grandson, Ryan Carico of Blountville; three sisters, Margaret Stewart of Gate City, Mildred McAllister of Kingsport and Amalee Spivey of Gate City; two brothers, Larry Williams of Gate City and Gary Williams of Kingsport; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

CLINCHPORT, Va. - Cleo "Bigfoot'' Williams, 71, entered into eternal rest on Friday (Feb. 15, 2002) at his residence.

Mr. Williams was born in Scott County, Va., on March 16, 1930, son of the late Kelly and Della Sloan Williams.

In addition to his parents, one brother, James Kermit Williams, preceded him in death.

He is survived by one son Franklin Rhoton, Sneedville; sisters, Mozella Williams, Gate City, Va., and Betty Johnson, Blackwater, Va.; brother, Cecil Williams, Weber City, Va.; special friend, Dorothy Rhoton, Clinchport, Va.; special niece, Carol Culbertson, and special nephew, Dennis Williams; several nieces and nephews.

FALL BRANCH - Mr. Wilmer "Virgil" Williams Sr., 82, 131 Painter Avenue , went home to be with the Lord Saturday (June 26, 1999) at his home after a lengthy illness.

A native of Scott County , Va. , Mr. Williams was the son of the Harve and Lois Williams . He had lived in Fall Branch for over 45 years. Mr. Williams served in the U.S. Army and retired from Eastman Chemical Company. He was a member and deacon of the Oak Glen Baptist Church .

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Lane Williams ; one daughter, Joyce Dotson; and an infant sister.

WEBER CITY , Va. — Michael George (Mickey) Willis, 60, of Weber City , Va. , died on Tuesday night ( May 24, 2011 ), at his home with his family by his side following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on Aug. 14, 1950 , in Kingsport . Mickey retired from the Tennessee Eastman with over 21 years of service. He was very active with the Relay for Life in Kingsport . He was a member of Midway Baptist Church .

DUFFIELD, Va. — Kate Rogers Willis, 74, of the Jasper community, passed away Sunday (March 1, 2009) in Duffield, Va.

She was a lifelong resident of the Jasper community and was a member of the Jasper Central Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Steve Mack Rogers and Venus (Spears) Rogers; four brothers, Cecil, Glenn, Lloyd and Rufus Rogers; three half-brothers; and three half-sisters.

Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Harold Willis; one daughter, Donna Reist and husband, Teddy of Duffield; one son, William Willis and wife, Gwen of Talbott, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Logan, Nathan and Westan Willis; three sisters, Loretta Bishop of Morristown, Tenn., Molly Winstead and husband, Tex of Bean Station, Tenn. and Lucille Estep of Talbott, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

CHURCH HILL — On July 7, 2009 at 6:30 a.m. Bertha E. Wilson, 88, in spirit was able to walk again and make her final journey home.

For years she had suffered the debilitating effects of a stroke. Bertha always retained hope and prayed that one day she could walk again and return to her home and loved ones. The Lord has now granted that prayer.

She was a member of the Independent Missionary Baptist Church of Eidson, Tenn.

She was born Sept. 5, 1920 , in Hancock County , Tenn. , to the late Hiram and Sara Jane Smith Herron. Bertha spent her young life in Hancock County but moved to Sullivan County during the years of World War II where she worked at Tennessee Eastman for several years.

Upon her marriage to John Wilson in 1947, she moved to Robinette Valley area of Scott County , Va. , where she spent most of her life as a homemaker and mother. In 2001, due to failing health she was forced to move from her home but never gave up hope to one day return.

She was a loving mother and will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wilson; and a brother, Carl Herron.

Survivors include her two sons and daughter-in-law, Ed and Bonnie Wilson, Church Hill and Don Wilson, Church Hill; grandson, Jeremy Wilson, Johnson City; special lifelong friend and roommate for several years, Bertie Lawson; sister and brother-in-law, Leona and Ike Hurd, Duffield, Va.; brothers, Quentin and wife, Sally Herron, Morristown, Eckel Herron, Gate City; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home. Rites of the Order of Eastern Star will be conducted at 6:45 p.m.

GATE CITY, Va. - Wilma Sue (Maddux) Wilson, 72 of Gate City, joined the Heavenly Choir on Saturday, (July 7, 2007), at Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was a member of Weber City Christian Church, a talented singer and enjoyed entertaining others with her singing. She was also a member of Friends for Life and served as a volunteer caregiver at Baysmont Retirement Center where she was once nominated as caregiver of the year.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester D. Wilson; her parents, F.H. and Lona McNutt Maddux; sisters, Uva Maddux and Juanita Bays; brothers Earl and Ralph Maddux.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Wilson of Bristol, Va. and Cindy Shell; son, Daryl Wilson of Gate City; grandchildren, Jeremy Shell and Micah Wilson; sisters, Elsie Derting of Gate City and Clara Faye Wood of Weber City; brother, Leonard Maddux of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT - Dewey Winegar, 100, of Lynn Street, went to be with the Lord Friday evening, ( June 22, 2007 ) while at Asbury Place (Baysmont) of Kingsport .

He was born Feb. 7, 1907 in Scott County , Va. a son of the late Lindsey and Ethel Gertrude Taylor Winegar. He was a member of the Ketron Memorial United Methodist Church where he was active as long as his health permitted. He was a supervisor with Holliston Mills-Kingsport, retiring in 1972 after 44 years of service.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Clara Peters Winegar, son, Hagan Winegar; and five brothers, Walter, Henry, Grady, D.L. "Pete" and Kemp Winegar.

He is survived by two grandchildren, Debbie Campbell and Michael Winegar; several great and great-great grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins; along with special caregivers Margie Winegar and Marvin and Judy Winegar all of Gate City, Va.

Calling hour will be Tuesday, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City , Va.

The funeral will follow in the funeral chapel with Rev. Aaron Pierce officiating.

He was a native of Scott County, Va., and a member of Chalybeate Springs United Methodist Church .

He was a charter member of the Yuma Ruritan Club, a Mason and a Shriner.

He served on the A.S.C.S. County Committee and the Scott County Welfare Board for many years.

Having been a lifelong farmer, he had a deep appreciation and love for the land.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John D. Wininger and Goldia A. Hensley Wininger; and his sister, Gladys A. Wininger.

YUMA, Va. — Robert C. Wininger, 88, of Yuma, passed away early Monday morning (June 8, 2009) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was a lifelong resident of Scott County. He was a graduate of Cleveland High School in Yuma in 1938. Robert served in World War II (Battle of the Bulge) with the U.S. Army. He was the recipient of 5 Battle Stars. He was a member of the Gate City American Legion Post #265. Mr. Wininger retired from the Tennessee Eastman Company in 1977 with 35 years of service.

Following retirement, he worked at the Eastman Employee Recreation Center until April of 2009. Mr. Wininger was a member of Cowans Branch Missionary Baptist Church. He belonged to the Catlett Lodge #35 F.&A.M. of Gate City, the Gate City Chapter #116 O.E.S., and was a member of the Jericho Shriners. He had served on the Board of Supervisors for Scott County for over 10 years. He was a charter member of the Scott County Chamber of Commerce and the Yuma Ruritan Club. He belonged to the Yuma Senior Citizens Group.

Robert also served on the following boards, State of Virginia Water Control Board for over 12 years, Moccasin Gap Sanitation Board for 18 years, where the last seven years he served as chairman of the board, the Ohio River Valley Sanitation Commission, where he was former clerk for Virginia Farm Bureau Board of Directors for eight years, Weber City Lions Club, where he served as president and the Lenowisco Planning District Chairman for one year. Mr. Wininger was appointed by Congressman Boucher to the National Silver Haired Congress representing the 9th Congressional District of Va.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June Sandidge Wininger in 1981; a son, Eldon Robert Wininger in 2005; a daughter-in-law, Elisabeth Dauwalder Wininger in 2008; parents, Robert and Clara Fields Wininger; his brother, Walter E. Wininger; his sisters, Edith Shoemaker, Lucille Whitley, Dorothy Grimm and Amalee Grimm.

Robert C. Wininger is survived by his daughter, Valda Reed and husband, Benny (Johnson City); his grandsons, Charles Reed, John Wininger and wife, Christie, and Eric Wininger (all of Johnson City); a granddaughter, Amy Stinecipher and husband, Jerry (Lexington, S.C.); great-grandsons, Gabriel Reed and Grayson Wininger; great-granddaughters, McKinley Reed and Jessica Stinecipher; his sisters, Velma Wininger and Jewell Bloomer; a sister-in-law, Ottalee Wininger; his special friend and brother-in-law, John Sandidge and wife, Claudell; a dear friend, Ferne Bellamy; three nieces and four nephews; along with a host of many other friends.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from noon to 2 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home.

A celebration of his life will be conducted on Friday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Paul Blessing and Pastor Michael Sampson officiating. Eulogies will be presented by his daughter and son-in-law, Valda and Benny Reed.

A military graveside service conducted by the American Legion Color Guard and the Virginia Army National Guard will follow the celebration of his life at Holston View Cemetery on Friday.

Wayne Davidson. Jerry Grimm, Jim Jeter, Tim Wininger, Robert Falin and Gaylord Hill will serve as pallbearers.

CHURCH HILL - Walter Earl Wininger Sr., 80, reached the end of his earthly journey Tuesday (Sept. 9, 2003) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.

He was born in Scott County, Va. on April 4, 1923. He was the son of the late Robert L. and Clara Fields Wininger. He had resided in Church Hill with his loving wife since 1946.

He was wounded serving his country during World War II. He was a retiree of Tennessee Eastman Co., where he was employed as a supervisor over the Refrigeration Services.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Church Hill, serving as chairman of the Administrative Board.

He was raised a Master Mason in Clay Lodge No. 386 F.&A.M. in 1952, serving as Master in 1959. He was a charter member of Church Hill Chapter No. 238 R.A.M. serving as High Priest in 1980. He was a member of Kingsport Council No. 117 and Kingsport Commandery No. 33. He belonged to Fairview Chapter No. 80 O.E.S., serving as Worthy Patron in 1959, 1960 and 1991. He served as Worthy Grand Patron O.E.S. in 1966. In 1970, he received the Grand Cross of Color from the Order of Rainbow for girls. He also served on the Educational Committee of the General Grand Chapter O.E.S.

Mr. Wininger was a member of the Scottish Rite working in the Fourth Degree for many years, reaching the 33rd Degree in 1989. He also was a member of The Royal Order of Scotland and The Red Cross of Constantine. Mr. Wininger served as Most Worshipful Grand Master of Masons in the State of Tennessee in 1998. He was appointed to the Hawkins County Election Commission in 1990 and served faithfully for over 13 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Edith Shoemaker, Lucille Whitley and Dorothy Grimm.

Surviving are his wife, Otttalee Skelton Wininger, Church Hill; one daughter and son-in-law, Vanessa and Kelly Range, Athens, Ala.; one son and daughter-in-law, Col. Walter E. Jr., and Robin Wininger, currently stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado; two grandchildren, Emira Lee and Emily Wininger; three sisters, Velma Wininger, Amalee Grimm, Jewel Bloomer, all of Yuma, Va.; and one brother, Robert Wininger, Yuma, Va.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church of Church Hill.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Ron Ramsey officiating. An Eastern Star Memorial service will follow.

Masonic graveside services will be conducted by Clay Lodge No. 386 at 11 a.m. Friday at Church Hill Memory Gardens with military honors to follow conducted by the Hawkins County Color Guard.

Johnson Funeral Home, Church Hill, is serving the Wininger family.

Frank Maurice Wing, Sr., 55, 909 Walnut Ave., was dead on arrival at Holston Valley Community Hospital at 12:30 p.m. Sunday of an apparent heart attack.

Born in Scott County , Va. , he had resided in Kingsport for the past 35 years. He was a veteran of W. W. II, a member of Kingsport Masonic Lodge No. 688 F. & AM, Loyal Order of Moose Kingsport Lodge No. 972, Kingsport Amateur Radio Club, Bays Mountain Amateur Radio Club and a charter member of Mafair United Methodist Church. He was an employee of Tennessee Eastman Company and worked in the Central Drafting & Engineering

Department for the past 10 years.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary Lee Atchley Wing of the home; one son, Frank M. Wing, Jr. of Tucker, Ga.; one sister, Mrs. Goldie Crabtree of Clintwood, Va.; two brothers, Dr. A. B. Wing of Johnson City, W. E. Wing of Gate City. Va.; grandson, Frank M. Wing III.

Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

GATE CITY , Va. —Dona Lyons Winston, 18, died unexpectedly of pneumonia at 10 a.m. Sunday [ 12/9/1962 ] on route to a hospital.

She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Winston, Route 1, Gate City . Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Oscar Hensley, Gate City, Mrs. Taft Herron, Eidson, Tenn., Mrs. Luther Falin, Clinchport, Va.; one brother. Bill Winston, Clinchport.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Robinette Valley Mission , Rev. Clarence Arnold and Rev. Ervin Burke will officiate. Burial will be in the Palmer cemetery.

Friends will serve as pallbearers.

The body will remain at Gate City Funeral Home until one hour before the service.

WEBER CITY, Va. - Agnes Jeannette Smith Wise, 75, resident of the Brian Center, Weber City, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday ( Aug. 6, 2003 ) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center .

She was born in Russell County , Va. , on Aug. 18, 1927 . She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Wise; her parents, Charlie P. and Mary Fields Smith; and two sisters, Carol Lumpkins and Lena Ryan.

Survivors include five brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Margie Smith, Weber City, Lee and Dorcas Smith, Weber City, Charlie (Jr) and Norma Smith, Gate City, Va., George and Nina Smith, Kingsport, Gerald and Linda Smith, St. Paul, Va.; one sister and brother-in-law, Lora and Elijah Lane, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews, and her many friends at Brian Center where she resided for several years.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City , Va. , and anytime at the residence of her brother, Carl Smith, Weber City , Va.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Wrightly Salling officiating.

Music will be provided by the Oak Glen Singers.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. at Holston View Cemetery . The family will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. and travel in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jason Greene, Randy Lane , Steve Smith, Garrett Smith, D.D. Smith, Darrell Ryan.

Honorary pallbearers will be CNA's at Brian Center .
