Mrs. Jack (Mommy Leathea) Tate, 73, of Glenwood Acres (Kingsport Rt. 2) died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Guy (Bessie) Christian, at 4:30 p.m. Thursday [7/11/1968] after a lengthy illness.

A former resident of Scott County, Va., she had lived in the Kingsport area for 30 years and made her home with her daughter. She was a member of West View Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are the daughter; son, Paul Tate, also of Kingsport; sisters, Mrs. H. L. Maness and Mrs. Rachel Shoemaker, both of Clinchport, Va., and Mrs. Myrtle Lewis, Afton, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in West View Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Arthur Luster, Rev. J. C. Barnette, Rev. Ray Weather1y officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Tne family will receive friends at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. today. The body will be taken from the funeral home to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Guy Christian, Glenwood Acres at 10 a.m. Saturday. It will remain there until the hour of service.

Lloyd Hughston Tate, 87, of the Yuma community, went to be with the Lord (Sunday February 16th, 2014) at his home with his family at his side.

Born in Scott County to the late, Andrew and Augustine Tate, he attended Cleveland School in Yuma, Va. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a seaman first class on the USS Chaffee Destroyer escort in the South Pacific. He retired from the Mead Corporation in 1988 after 44 years of service.

Lloyd enjoyed restoring and driving antique cars and tractors. He collected clocks and knives and enjoyed gospel and bluegrass music. He was a lifetime member of the Weber City Volunteer Fire department of which he was awarded firefighter of the year in 1996. He was awarded citizen of the year in 1994 by the Yuma Ruritan. He was a member of Vicars Chapel Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Belle Mullins and Thelma Howell; brothers, Auburn Tate, William "Buster" Tate, Reuben Tate, Massie Tate, Henry Tate and Clarence "Tater" Tate

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jamie Nell (Sandidge) Tate; two daughters, Sandra Darnell and husband C.E. , Kathy Livesay and husband Rusty; two sons, Harold Tate and wife Edith and Donnie Tate and wife Freda, all of Gate City; nine grandchildren, Gary Darnell and wife Heather, Waterford, PA, Daniel Tate and wife Jodi, Gate City, Rebecca Green, Gate City, Josh Tate and wife Holly, Mount Carmel, TN, Laura Furcron and husband Thomas, Roanoke, VA, Andy Tate and wife Amanda, Aaron Tate and wife Leslie and Sarah Jones and husband James, all of Gate City; thirteen great grandchildren, Seth and Caleb Darnell, Kaylee and Kyndall Green, Abigail and Kyra Tate, Lucy, Tessa, Willa and Norah Furcron, Emilee and Colton Tate and Briana Jones; several nieces and nephews

The family will receive friends from 4 till 7pm Tuesday (February 18th, 2014) at Scott County Funeral Home.

A funeral service will follow at 7pm with his grandson, Rev. Gary Darnell officiating. Music will be provided by his family.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1pm Wednesday at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City with Rev. Stephen Caldwell officiating. Military graveside rites will be presented by the American Legion Post 3/265. Those who plan to attend the graveside are invited to join the family in procession to the cemetery by meeting at the funeral home at 12:20pm.

Pallbearers will be Gary Darnell, Daniel Tate, Josh Tate, Thomas Furcron, Andy Tate, Aaron Tate, James Jones and Duffie Cox. Honorary Pallbearers will be nephews.

Special thanks should go to his caregiver, Patricia Bloomer and to Wellmont Hospice, Nova Health Care and Rehab and the HMG staff.

SIMPSONVILLE , S.C. - Bobby “Mouse” Taylor, 65, a resident of 213 Highway 14, Simpsonville , S.C. , passed away Wednesday ( Nov. 23, 2005 ) at Greenville Memorial Hospital with lung cancer.

Bobby was born Oct. 14, 1940 in Yuma, Va., to the late John Logan Taylor and Eliza Elizabeth Click Taylor. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was retired from Howard's Body Shop in Simpsonville. He was of the Methodist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Taylor; and two sisters, Evelyn Brickey and Ruth Fleenor.

He is survived by brothers, Ralph Taylor, Tommy Taylor, Don Taylor and Eddie Taylor of Kingsport, and James Taylor of Yuma, Va.; sisters, Frances Jenkins and Phyllis Palmer of Kingsport; step-son, Jonathan Morse; special friend, Nancy Butler of Simpsonville, S.C.; his faithful canine companion, "Smokey"; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Prospect United Methodist Church, Yuma, Va.

A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. with the Rev. Joe Byrd officiating.

Bobby requested that his body be cremated.

GATE CITY, Oct. 31 — Joint funeral services were held today at Blair's Chapel near here for Mrs. Helen Taylor, 77, and her granddaughter, Mrs. Daisy Ashburn, 28, both of whom died within 16 hours of each other Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Mrs. Ashburn died suddenly of heart failure Saturday morning [10/29/1932] at the home of W. E. Taylor, Sr., where she had come from her home in Norfolk to visit her ill grandmother, Mrs. Taylor.

Mrs. Taylor had been ill about four weeks prior to her death about 1:00 p.m. Sunday [10/30/1932] morning.  She was a member of a pioneer family in Scott county where she had lived her entire life constantly taking an interest in the welfare of her neighbors, church and community.

When stricken with a fatal heart attack, Mrs. Ashburn was talking to the physician attending her grandmother.  She was a native of Scott county, but had made her home in Washington, D. C., and Norfolk, Va., for the past 11 years.  She, as her grandmother, was a member of the Methodist church.

Surviving Mrs. Ashburn are her husband, Overton Ashburn, at present located in Hagerstown, Md.; one daughter, Janice; her father, J. B. McClellan, Gate City; three sisters, Mrs. R. O. Williams, Roda. Va., Mrs. E. B. Williams, Hill, Va., Mrs. Charles Rogan, Kingsport, Tenn., and one brother, Warner B. McClellan, Gate City.  Her mother died several years ago.

Surviving Mrs. Taylor are her husband, W. E. Taylor, Sr., Gate City; one sister, Mrs. Liddie Salling, Slant, Va., and the following children, Thomas N. Taylor, Kingsport; C. D. and J. C. Taylor, Wheelerton, Tenn,; W. E. Taylor, Jr., Gate City and J. E. Taylor, Fort Blackmore, Va.

A huge number of friends thronged the Blair's Chapel church and yard during funeral services conducted by Rev. Joshua Lane, assisted by Rev. John Vermillion.  Burial rites were held at the Taylor Cemetery near the church.

[The Taylor Cemetery named as burial place is apparently the same as present-day Penley Cemetery, S Gate City #36.]

KINGSPORT - Hobart C. Taylor, 87, Preston Place, went to be with The Lord Sunday ( Jan. 7, 2001 ) at Indian Path Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Taylor was a native of Scott County, Va., and had resided in Oak Ridge, Tenn., where he was a chemical supervisor at K-25.

Prior to working at Oak Ridge , he worked at TEC as a chemical supervisor. Mr. Taylor was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church (PCA), where he was a Trustee. He was also a member of the American Legion Hammond Post No. 3 and the AMVETS.

Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by six brothers and six sisters.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Virginia Adams Taylor, of the home; daughter, Norma Sue Ketola and husband, Carl, Rochester, N.Y.; son, Ronald W. Taylor and wife, Carol, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home Chapel, downtown.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with The Rev. G. Brent Bradley officiating.

BIG STONE GAP , Va. — Roger Carson Taylor , 49, of the Fairview community of Scott County, passed away on Tuesday ( March 22, 2011 ) in Big Stone Gap.

He was a graduate of Rye Cove High School and Virginia Commonwealth University ’s School of Pharmacy . He served in the U.S. Army in Germany . He was an avid ham radio operator.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Fugate Taylor and Nancy (Gibson) Taylor ; and two brothers, David Lee Taylor and Stephen Christopher Taylor .

Roger is survived by one brother, James Fugate Taylor (Janice) of Big Stone Gap; step-mother, Carol Taylor of Knoxville, Tenn.; two step-brothers, Michael Darden of Knoxville, Tenn. and Jeff Darden of Maryland; several nieces and nephews; very special nieces, Larissa Taylor of Wilmington, N.C. and Nancy Taylor of Johnson City; and a very special great-nephew, Griffen Ely Taylor of Johnson City.

A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday in the chapel of Holding Funeral Home with Greg Townsend, minister officiating.

Ruby Edith Tate, 76, Kings­port, died Thursday (April 14, 1994) at Indian Path Medical Cen­ter after an extended illness.

She was a lifelong resident of Kingsport, and was a member of Depews Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Men's and Women's Bible Class.

Surviving are her husband, the Rev. George Ralph Tate, of the home; three daugh­ters, Shirley J. Greene, An­napolis, Md., Janice Faye Shrewsbury, Baltimore, Md. and Linda Kay Byers, Kings­port; two sons, Jack Lee Tate and George Harrison Tate, both of Kingsport; 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hobart C. Taylor; two brothers, Worley Adams Sr. and Charlie Hansel Adams; her parents, James William Adams and Francis Melinda Holbrook Adams; and an infant great-grandson, Joshua William Bedford.

KINGSPORT - Margaret Tate, 75, Kingsport, passed away Tuesday (Jan. 6, 2004) at her home surrounded by loving family and friends.

Born in Scott County, Va., she had resided most of her life in Kingsport.

Mrs. Tate was a Christian, a loving mother, grandmother, sister and loyal friend to many.

Preceding her in death were her husband, James E. Tate (Dec. 29, 2003); a daughter, Mae Saylor; a son, Harold Bishop; parents, David and Avie Neeley; seven brothers; and one sister, Hassie Carter (Oct. 31, 2003).

JENKINS, Ky. - Alfred 'Melve' Taylor, 72, Dunham sec­tion, Jenkins, Ky., died Tuesday (April 12, 1994) at his residence.

He was of the Freewill Baptist faith and was a former employee of the City of Manassas.

GATE CITY , Va. - Anna Lee Taylor, 77, formerly of Clinchport, Va., passed away Monday ( Aug. 28, 2006 ) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was born in Roda, Va., and was previously employed at QSQ and the Thriftway Market. She was a homemaker and previously attended Pendleton's Freewill Baptist Church .

She was preceded in death by her parents, Millard Lee and Annie Russell Moore; several sisters and brothers.

Surviving are her daughter, Jeanette Taylor and husband Robert, Nickelsville, Va.; grandchildren, Steven James Taylor and Michael Keith Taylor, both of Nickelsville, Va.; sisters-in-law, Edith Stewart and husband Eugene, Clinchport, Va., Ruth Taylor, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home in Weber City and anytime at the daughter's residence.

KINGSPORT - Benny J. Taylor, 67, passed away unexpectedly Thursday ( Aug. 18, 2005 ) at his home.

Mr. Taylor retired from Tennessee Eastman Company.

He was a member, deacon, and Sunday School teacher at Beulah Baptist Church . He was also a member of Sinking Creek Masonic Lodge in Gray.

His wife, Charlotte A. Taylor; parents, Sam and Lorene Taylor; sister, Patsy Taylor Chaffin; and nephew, Gary Marshall preceded him in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Vicki Maxwell and husband, Roy, and Angelina Isley and husband, Jim, all of Kingsport; four grandchildren, Maria Maxwell, Emily Maxwell, Victoria Isley, and Jonathan Isley; two sisters, Phyllis Marshall and husband, James Roy, and Rosemary Vicars and husband, Lowell, all of Kingsport; brother-in-law, Lincoln Chaffin; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport , with Rev. Al South officiating.

Music will be provided by dear friends and neighbors, the Shepherd family.

KINGSPORT — Billie Brickey Taylor, 77, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord Thursday (June 11, 2009) at her residence surrounded by her family.

Billie was born Nov. 15, 1931 in Fort Blackmore, Va., and was the daughter of the late Clyde McConnell Brickey and the late Bonnie Fields Brickey. She came to Kingsport in 1950 after marrying Roy M. Taylor in January of that year. Billie worked at the time in the office at Borden Mills. She went on to work as a bookkeeper and tax preparer, participating in the VITA Program sponsored by the IRS.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her niece, Melanie Brickey.

She is survived by her husband of over 59 years, Roy Marvin Taylor; her daughter, Karen Fisher and husband, David; her son, Mark Taylor and wife, Teresa; grandchildren, Ashley Jessee and husband, Chad, Kaci Shelton, Lyndsay, Andy and Daniel Taylor; sisters, Joy Kinkead and Rebecca Hensley; brothers, Ted, Dan and Bob Brickey; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Gravely Baptist Church. Friends may also call anytime at the residence.

Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor David Salley officiating.

Music will be provided by the church choir singing songs of praise.

Mr. Taylor was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gate City.

CHURCH HILL — Carolyn Ann Taylor, 62, of Church Hill went to sleep in the arms of Jesus Sunday evening (March 2, 2014) at Holston Valley Medical Center surrounded by her family.

She was born July 16, 1951, in Kingsport and was the daughter of the late Henry P. and Bessie Kathleen (Fields) Taylor of Scott County, Va. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Dana Light.

She was a member of Greenvale Baptist Church and was formerly an employee of WalMart and more recently worked as a real estate agent.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Gary Taylor of Church Hill; sons, Wayne Taylor and wife Sherry of Bridgeport, W.Va., and Stephen Taylor and wife Kelsey of Fort Blackmore, Va.; foster son, Samuel Willard of Church Hill; three grandsons, Maxton Taylor, Caden Taylor and Braydon Taylor; brothers, Herman Taylor and wife Judy of Weber City, Va., and Charlie Taylor and wife Geraldine of Duffield, Va.; sisters, Pauline Gates and husband Joe of Mooresburg, Tenn., Mary Sims of Weber City, and Kathryn Taylor of Duffield; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Scott County Funeral Home, 2060 Hwy. 23N, Weber City, Va.

Funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. Wednesday with Brother Joe Shelton II officiating. Music will be provided by Jim Willis.

Family and friends are asked to meet by 10:15 a.m. Thursday at Scott County Funeral Home to proceed to Holston View Cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside service.

Pallbearers will be Charles Quillen, Jimmie Taylor, Jeff Taylor, Sonny Hensley, Jeremiah Owens, Michael Taylor, Ricky Taylor, Jebb Cox and David Salyer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Tri Cities Affiliate, 301 Louis Street, Kingsport, Tenn. 37660.

KNOXVILLE - Mr. Charles Fugate Taylor, 71, entered into rest Saturday morning ( Sept. 29, 2001 ) at Park West Hospital in Knoxville . Mr. Taylor was formerly of Route 3, Clinchport, Va. , but had lived in Knoxville for the past several years.

Born in Scott County , Va. , on August 29, 1930 , he was a son of the late James and Myrtle Berry Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gem Kate Taylor Greninger.

Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Carol Sue Houchins Taylor, Knoxville; four sons and daughters-in-law, James (Jim) and Janice Taylor, Big Stone Gap, Va., Steve and Leola Taylor, Moyock, N.C., Roger and Regina Taylor, Richlands, Va., and David Taylor, Friendsville, Tenn.; two stepsons and daughter-in-law, Jeff Darden, Annapolis, Md., Mike and Montana Darden, Knoxville; four grandchildren, Nancy, Larissa, Angie and Alec Taylor; one great-grandchild, Tristan Taylor; many cousins and friends.

Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the Gate City Funeral Home with Dr. Edwin Greninger officiating.

Burial will be in the Berry Family Cemetery , Fairview community.

Charlotte Ann Jobe Taylor, 53, Kingsport , died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday ( Jan. 15, 1998 ) at her home after an extended period of poor health.

Mrs. Taylor was born in Kingsport , where she had lived her entire life. She was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Taylor was a member of Beulah Baptist Church .

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ruth Jobe.

Surviving are her husband, Benny J. Taylor, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Roy A. Maxwell and Angelina and James H. Isley, all of Kingsport; three grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Eddie (Gayle) Waddell, Lyles, Tenn.; and two brothers, Anthony Jobe, Kingsport, and Jerry B. Jobe, Eidson.

KINGSPORT - Claude Taylor, 95, Kingsport, passed away Friday, (June 30, 2007) at his home.

Born in Clinchport , Va. , he had resided in Kingsport most of his life. Mr. Taylor was retired from Tennessee Eastman Company.

His wife, Cora Taylor; and son, Don Taylor preceded him in death.

Surviving are his daughter-in-law, Bobbie Taylor, Kingsport; one grandson, Steve Taylor and wife, Reta, Greeneville; one great-granddaughter, April Taylor, Greeneville; and two half-sisters, Irene Mullins, Clinchport, Va. and Jimmie Lane, Weber City, Va.

GATE CITY, Va. - Clyde Vernon "Tim" Taylor Jr., 77, Second Street, died Friday morning (Dec. 19, 2003) at Indian Path Medical Center.

Tim was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He retired from Tennessee Eastman in 1984.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Vernon Taylor Sr. and Flora Fish Taylor; sisters, Viola Taylor Fields and Leota Taylor; brothers, Garland Taylor, Bernis Taylor and Alvis Fain Taylor.

Surviving are his wife, Frances Ann Jones Taylor, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Diane Dishner and husband Gregory Lewis, Mount Carmel; sons and daughter-in-law, Vernon Wendell Taylor and Anna Bell, Church Hill, Chris Taylor, Gate City, Va.; grandchildren, Adriane Nicole Flanary and husband Aaron, Johnson City, Timothy Wayne Taylor, Gate City, Va.; step-grandchildren, Eddie Butler and wife Star of Arkansas, Michael Butler and wife Tara of Kingsport.

Cora Flanary Taylor , 87, Kingsport, died Thursday morning ( April 2, 1998 ) at her home.

Born in Clinchport , Va. , she had resided in Kingsport since 1933, and was a homemaker. She attended Ketron Memorial United Methodist Church .

Surviving are her husband, Claude S. Taylor , Kingsport; a daughter-in-law, Bobbie Taylor , Kingsport; a grandson, Steven Taylor, Greeneville; a great-granddaughter, April Taylor , Greeneville; and two nephews, Harlan K. Lane, Kingsport, and Thomas J. Lane, El Paso, Texas.

CLINCHPORT, Va. — Mrs. Dallas Roberts Taylor, 79, went peacefully to her heavenly home surrounded by her family and friends on Monday (Feb. 18, 2008).

She was born June 27, 1928, to the late Martin and Della Roberts.

She was a Christian and lifelong member of Natural Tunnel Freewill Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday School teacher, treasurer and enjoyed singing in the choir and in the Old Timers Quartet.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Hobert Taylor.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Bobby Rhoton and Patsy and Kenneth Herron; four grandchildren, Tim Rhoton and wife, Angie, Corey Rhoton and wife, Cathy, Kenita Herron and Kevin Herron; four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Seth, Mason and Joey Rhoton; one sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Gilmer Bledsoe; a special friend and caregiver, Barbara Lawson; several nieces, nephews and many caring friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Bro. Tim Rhoton and Bro. Bobby Rhoton officiating.

KINGSPORT - Donald "Donnie" R. Taylor, Jr., 37, of Kingsport, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday (April 7, 2006).

Born and raised in Kingsport, he served as a corporal with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Persian Gulf as an aircraft maintenance administration clerk on the Coral Sea. He was an employee of AFG Industries for 15 years.

Donnie was a member of Bloomingdale Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, and son, and will be greatly missed.

His paternal grandparents, James and Veda Taylor preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Donna Clark Taylor, Kingsport; one stepdaughter, Racheal Clark, Kingsport; his father, Don R. Taylor, Fall Branch; mother, Yvonne Byrd Douthat and husband, Gene, Kingsport; one brother, Joey Taylor and wife, Tina, Kingsport; nieces, Alisha and Leah Taylor; maternal grandparents, Pastor Joe W. and Eileen Byrd; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Donna Rhea Clark Taylor, 48, of Kingsport passed away on Saturday February 18, 2012 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

She was a life long resident of Kingsport. Donna graduated from Sullivan North High School in 1982 and attended University of Tennessee. She was an avid lover of animals and enjoyed riding her Harley motorcycles. Donna was a loving mother, daughter and sister.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donnie Raymond Taylor; sister, Tina Renee Clark Berry; maternal grandmother, Emma Larkins Mitchell; maternal grandfather, Samuel Robert Joyce.

She is survived by her daughter, Racheal Lynn Clark of Kingsport; sister, Anna Lynn Clark Simpson and husband Kevin of Round Rock, TX; her parents, Charles Lynn and Anna Frances Joyce Clark of Kingsport; fiancé, Jeffrey C. Harrison; special friend, Anna Marie Sutherland of Kingsport; niece, Casey Bryanna Berry; nephew, Justin Todd Berry; she will be greatly missed by her family and friends and special pets Dawson and Little Girl.

DUFFIELD, Va. — Dorothy Gladys Carter Taylor, 88, of Duffield, Va., went to be with the Lord on Monday ( May 16, 2011 ), at her residence.

Born June 8, 1922 , in Rye Cove, Va. , Dorothy was a retired waitress from the Dearborn Inn and was of the Baptist faith. She was a very kind and loving woman. She loved flowers and her little dog “Tazzy” and was always ready to feed you or lend a helping hand. She will be greatly missed.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Luann for her daily love and care of Dorothy, whom she loved like her mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Carter and Eva Stewart Carter; husband, Ralph Taylor; brothers, Charlie Carter, Bill Carter, Raymond Carter and Ezra Carter.

Born in Scott County, Va., he had resided in Sullivan County most of his life. He was retired from Waste Management where he had worked as a driver.

He was of the Baptist faith.

His parents, Rev. Joe Taylor and Hester Taylor; brother, Virgil Taylor; and a son, Tommy Taylor preceded him in death.

Mrs. Taylor was born April 30, 1932 in Russell County, Va., to the late Howard Jack and MaryJane Grizzle Kiser.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Roy Lee Taylor, Jr.; three brothers, Alvin, Roy and Joe Kiser.

Gate City, Va. -- Eliza Taylor, 80, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. A. J. Donaldson, on the Spivey Dam road today [1/24/1941] at 7:30 a. m., following a short illness.  She had been in declining health for some time.

She is survived by two brothers, I. P. Taylor of Kingsport, W. E. Taylor, Sr., Gate City; two sisters, Mrs. A. J. Donaldson, Gate City, and Mrs. T. W. Wiliams, Pennington Gap, Va.

She was a native of Scott county and a member of one of the oldest and most prominent families of this section.  Her father was Nelson H. Taylor and her mother was Martha Lane Taylor.  She has been active in community and church affairs all of her life.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the home of her sister, Mrs. Donaldson.  The Rev. C. S. Pendleton will officiate.  Interment will be in the nearby Taylor cemetery.

Friends of the family will serve as pallbearers and flowerbearers.

Frances Ann (Jones) Taylor

GATE CITY, Va. - Frances Ann (Jones) Taylor, 72, of Bluebell Drive, East Carters Valley, went to be with the Lord Saturday afternoon (Aug. 4, 2007) in the emergency room at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was born Dec. 12, 1934 in Scott County, Va., and was the daughter of the late Albert Clinton and Mary Belle Wolfe Jones. She was of the Baptist faith and had, in the past, attended the First Baptist Church of Weber City.

She was a homemaker, a good wife, mother, grandmother, "Grambie" and sister.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Vernon Taylor, brothers, William Clinton "Bill" Taylor, Paul Jones and Victor Jones; sister, Alice Tittsworth.

She is survived by a daughter, Diane Dishner and husband, Greg of Mount Carmel; sons, Vernon Taylor and wife, Annabelle of Church Hill and Chris Taylor, of the home; grandchildren, Adriane Flanary and husband, Aaron, and Timothy Taylor; great-granddaughter, Ava Flanary; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Haynes and husband, Jimmy of Gate City, Va. (Yuma); several nieces and nephews and others also survive.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Paul Blessing officiating.

    He was retired from AFG Greenland Plant and was of the Methodist faith.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac Thomas and Julia Lawson Taylor; and a brother, Ralph Taylor.

He was born in Sullivan County on May 26, 1950 and was the son of the late James "Jim Bo" and Nellie Taylor. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Giles; and brother, James "Big Jim" Taylor.

Surviving are his son, Michael Taylor and wife, Stephanie, South Boston, Va.; three sisters, Sandra Arnold, Kingsport, Louise Jackson and husband, Nathan, Detroit, Mich., and Patsy Jo Connor and husband, Thomas, Ft. Smith, Ari.; several nieces and nephews.

Fall Branch, TN - Mrs. Gladys Virginia Taylor, 82, Fall Branch, TN passed away, Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

WEBER CITY, Va. - Guy Maxwell Taylor, Jr., 79, of Weber City, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday (July 4, 2006) at Indian Path Medical Center.

He was a lifelong resident of Scott Co., Va., and attended Cleveland High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. Guy was the founder of the Mountain Empire Restaurant in Weber City. He retired from Tennessee Eastman after 42 years and eight months of service.

Guy was an expert carpenter and woodworker, whose work was displayed all over the southeast. He was a member of Holston View United Methodist Church and the Catlett Masonic Lodge of Gate City Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Maxwell Taylor Sr. and Flora Arnold Taylor; his son, Mike Taylor; three sisters, Karla Hurd, Willie Kimbler and Elva Buelick; and one brother, Lyle Taylor.

Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Alma Ruth Wampler Taylor, of the home; two daughters, Sandra Bussell and husband Neal of Kingsport and Dawn McMurray and husband Regan of Weber City, Va.; a former daughter-in-law, Glenda Taylor Snead of Kingsport; six grandchildren, Craig Bussell, Nicole Bussell Jones, John Michael Taylor, Rebecca Taylor, Hunter Owens, and Holly Owens; a special great-niece, Christina Drinnon; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends and family.

The family wishes to thank the 5th and 6th floor nurses and staff of Indian Path Medical Center and Amedisys Home Health Care.

GATE CITY, Va. - Guy Taylor Sr., 73, of Gate City Rt. 3 died in a Sparta, N. C. hospital at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday [12/18/1963] after a brief illness.

A retired carpenter, he attended the Baptist Church and was a member of Gate City Masonic Lodge. Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. Flora Arnold Taylor; three daughters, Mrs. Ray Hurd of Rogersville, Tenn.; Mrs. A. E. Kimbler, Weber City, Va., and Miss Elva Taylor, Kansas City; two sons, Guy Jr. and Lyle Taylor, both of Weber City; a sister, Mrs. Lee Davis, Kingsport; brother, James Audley Taylor, Gate City; and 10 grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Oak Glen Baptist Church by Rev. Eddie Fox, Rev. Herman Anderson and Rev. Ed Perry. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

PATTONSVILLE, Va. — Harold J. Taylor, 80, of Pattonsville, passed away on Thursday ( Aug. 21, 2008 ) at Ridgecrest Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center , Duffield , Va.

He was born in Jackson , Ky. , on May 7, 1928 , and was the son of the late Isaac Taylor and Julia Taylor. Harold was a member of Kaylor’s Chapel Church .

He was formerly employed by Mead Corporation., Kingsport Press and the Kingsport Police Department, having retired as a detective in 1975 due to injuries received in the line of duty. He received Officer of the Year in 1968.

Harold served in the U.S. Marine Corp and the U.S. Air Force, having been selected for Intelligence Training in Wichita Falls, Texas . He received several awards for his performance of duties and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Freddie (Bud) Taylor, Elmer Taylor and Ralph Taylor; two sisters, Dorothy Hale and Gladys Cleek; first wife, Dora Taylor.

He is survived by his loving wife, Eula Mae Taylor, of the home; stepdaughter, Carolyn Legg and husband, Jerry; step-granddaughter, Karen Legg; two nieces and 10 nephews.

Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home, 2060 U.S. Hwy. 23N, Weber City , Va.

Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. David Kern, the Rev. Kelvin Bishop and Evangelist Kenneth Neely.

Masionic services will be conducted by The White Side Lodge #133, of Blountville , Tenn.

Music will be provided by Kaylor’s Chapel Church Choir.

KINGSPORT - Hobart C. Taylor, 87, Preston Place, went to be with The Lord Sunday (Jan. 7, 2001) at Indian Path Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Taylor was a native of Scott County, Va., and had resided in Oak Ridge, Tenn., where he was a chemical supervisor at K-25.

Prior to working at Oak Ridge, he worked at TEC as a chemical supervisor. Mr. Taylor was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church (PCA), where he was a Trustee. He was also a member of the American Legion Hammond Post No. 3 and the AMVETS.

Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by six brothers and six sisters.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Virginia Adams Taylor, of the home; daughter, Norma Sue Ketola and husband, Carl, Rochester, N.Y.; son, Ronald W. Taylor and wife, Carol, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

CLINCHPORT, Va. - Hobert Taylor, 73, entered into rest Sunday (Nov. 12, 2000) at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Scott County, Va. on Sept. 25, 1927, a son of the late William Patton and Lelia Wade Taylor.

Mr. Taylor was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and a lifetime member of the VFW.

He attended Natural Tunnel Freewill Baptist Church.

He was retired from AFG Industries and was a security guard at Norris Industries, Big Stone Oil Company and was co-owner of Daniel Boone 76.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Mae Kaylor; and four brothers, the Rev. Claude Taylor, Carl "Buster", Ottis and Earl Taylor.

Surviving are his wife of 52 and a half years, Dallas Roberts Taylor, Clinchport; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Bobby Rhoton, Clinchport, and Patsy and Kenneth Herron, Gate City, Va.; three sisters, Edith Bishop, Kingsport, Gladys Gaines and Mary Alice Quillen, both of Gate City; one brother, Kelly Taylor, Kingsport; grandchildren, Tim Rhoton and wife, Angie, Corey Rhoton and wife, Cathy, Kenita Herron and Kevin Herron; several nieces and nephews; and many caring friends.

FORT BLACKMORE, Va. -- J. Howard Taylor, 83, Route 1, Slant community, Fort Blackmore, Va., died Tuesday afternoon ( April 30, 1991 ) at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon , Va. , after an extended illness.

A native of Scott County , Va. , he was a founder and member of Slant Methodist Church .  He was retired from the Tennessee Eastman Co. in the C. E. division after 33 1/2 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bess Salling Taylor, in 1989.

He was the last surviving member of the George and Lizzie Taylor family.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Bobby (Joyce) Pendleton, Blountville, Mrs. Jimmy (Betty) Gillenwater, Kingsport ; and four grandchildren.

Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Warren Funeral Home, Weber City , Va. , and anytime at the residences of the daughters.

CLINCHPORT -- James H. (Jim) Taylor , 77, died in Holston Valley Community Hospital in Kingsport at 4:40 a.m. Monday [ Sept 19, 1966 ] after a long illness.

He was a retired Bays Mountain Construction Co. employee and a member of Clinchport Christian Church.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Crystal Williams Taylor; daughters_, Mrs. E. B. Mullins of Clinchport; Mrs. Willard Lane , Weber City , and Mrs. Tommy Ramey, Kingsport ; son, Claude Taylor, Kingsport ; sister, Mrs. W. P. Bishop. Kingsport; brothers, Charlie of Clinchport and Milo Taylor, Kingsport; 16 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

CLINCHPORT, Va. - James K. Taylor, 81, of Route 4, passed away Tuesday evening ( Sept. 12, 2000 ) at 9:45 p.m. at his residence.

Born in Scott County on March 25, 1919 , he was the son of the late J.C. and Sena Powers Taylor.

Mr. Taylor was a U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II. With the rank of Staff Sergeant, he served in the South Pacific for over three years. He was a member of Colonel C.H. Hagy Chapter No. 45 D.A.V., Big Stone Gap, Va. , and the owner/operator of Daniel Boone Union 76.

Mr. Taylor was of the Baptist Faith.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Davidson; and six brothers, Demmer, George, William, Robert, John, and Sam Taylor.

Surviving are his wife, Anna Lee Moore Taylor, of the home; daughter, Mrs. Robert (Jeanette) Taylor, Nickelsville , Va. ; two very special grandsons, Steven James Taylor, and Michael Keith Taylor, both of Nickelsville; sister, Edith Mae Stewart, Clinchport , Va. ; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Taylor was a member of the Holston View United Methodist Church where he was an usher for over 40 years. He loved people and was well-known in the community.

Mr. Taylor attended the Cleveland School.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy M. Taylor Sr. and Flora Arnold Taylor; sisters, Karlie Hurd, Willie Kimbler, Elva Buelick; nephew, James Michael "Mike'' Taylor.

GATE CITY, Va. - John Frederick Taylor, 56, entered into rest at 4:30 a.m. Sunday (Oct. 26, 2003) at the VA Hospital in Johnson City.

He was born in Jacksonville, Fla., April 1, 1947.

He was preceded in death by his father, Karl W. Taylor, in 1951; and stepfather, Brown Gordon in 1999.

Mr. Taylor was a lifelong resident of Scott County, Va., and a former employee of W.B. Green Company and the Blue Field Supply Company.

He served in the Army in Korea in 1967 during the Vietnam era.

Survivors include his mother, Anne Darnell Gordon, Gate City; stepbrothers, Bobby Gordon, Chattanooga, Billy Ray Gordon and Roger Gordon, Graysville, Tenn.; special cousins, Charles Starnes and Roger Dougherty; and several other cousins.

He was born in Big Stone Gap, Va. , lived in Maryland and Florida and was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the State of Maryland .

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Eunice Taylor ; one brother, Gerald Taylor ; one sister- in- law, Shirley Gay Taylor .

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Stella Hamlin Taylor ; two brothers, Bob Taylor , Ken Taylor and wife, Shirley Ray of Big Stone Gap; one sister, Phyllis Feerer and husband, Jim of Ohio; one sister-in-law, Doris Taylor of Delaware.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gilliam Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, Va.

He was born and reared in Scott County and attended pub­lic schools near Slant, Va.   He was a veteran of World War I.  He had been employed at Penn-Dixie in Kingsport for the last 17 years.

HILTONS, Va. — Joseph “Joe” Dennis Taylor , 59, went to be with the Lord Friday, (Dec. 3, 2010) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, Mass., with his loving family by his side.

Born in Wise Co., Va. , he was a son of the late Dewey and Allie Taylor . He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, and worked in construction most of his life. He was a deacon at Darthula Baptist Church , where he was loved by all the children for his wonderful sense of humor. He had a heart for mission work, and had been on several mission trips.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joseph “Joey” Taylor ; and sisters, Virginia Coffey, Ann Toney and Dixie Hill.

HILTONS, Va. - Joseph Keith "Joey" Taylor, 30, passed away Monday ( Jan. 23, 2006 ).

He was born in the city of Norton, Va. , on July 16, 1975. He was a 1994 graduate of Gate City High School . He was an electrician with several local contractors, most recently with Keller Enterprises.

He was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Edna Maiden; paternal grandparents, Dewey and Allie Taylor.

KINGSPORT - Kelly B. Taylor passed away peacefully Wednesday (July 28, 2004) following a brief illness.

Born July 5, 1921 in Clinchport, Va., to the late William Patton and Lelia Wade Taylor, he spent most of his time farming until joining the U.S. Army in 1942.

While serving his country during World War II, he received several medals for service in New Guinea and the Philippines. After receiving an honorable discharge, he moved to Kingsport, where he met and married Juanita Shoemaker.

He was an avid baseball fan and loved the Braves whether winning or losing. He enjoyed going to the mall, spending time with his "bench buddies" and having lunch with his Piccadilly friends. More than anything he was a loving father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched.

Kelly was a member of the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post, #3382 VFW, and had been employed by Holston Defense Corporation and was later employed by Greif Bros. Corporation in Kingsport where he retired as a quality inspector.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Taylor; one sister, Mae Kaylor; and five brothers, Earl, Claude, Carl, Ottis, and Hobert Taylor.

Surviving are his loving daughter, Charmaine Ball and son-in-law Jim; two precious grandchildren, Dr. Jimmy C. Ball Jr., Paige M. Goforth and husband Ken; three great-grandchildren, Cody Eaton, Caleb Eaton, and Kennedy Goforth, all of Kingsport; three sisters, Edith Bishop, also of Kingsport, Gladys Gaines and Mary Alice Quillen of Scott County, Va.; several nieces and nephews, special friends and neighbors.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jeff DeBoard officiating.

Lawrence Thomas Taylor

DRYDEN, Va. - Lawrence Thomas (Tommy) Taylor was born in Big Stone Gap on Sunday, March 25, 1951, and passed away on Monday (Jan. 23, 2006) at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville at the age of 54 years.

Tommy was a retired mine supply clerk and a member of the Valley View Primitive Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Robert Taylor Sr. and Thelma Lovell Taylor; brother, Henry Robert (Buster) Taylor; and twin sisters.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Barbara Middleton Taylor, of the home; two sons, T.J. Taylor, of the home, Jason Alsup and wife, Linda of Pennington Gap, Va.; two grandchildren, Timothy Alsup and Arron Mooneyhan. He is also survived by one brother, Willie (Duke) Barker and wife, Shirley of Appalachia, Va.

BLOUNTVILLE -- Lee Roy Taylor, 57, 1129 Island Road, went to be with the Lord Saturday (Sept. 19, 1998) at the Greystone Health Care Center.
A native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County, he was a graduate of Blountville High School. He was retired from Holston Defense Maintenance Department. He was a member of the Cherokee Rod and Gun Club and was an outdoorsman.
He was a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Edward Taylor.
Surviving are his wife, Imogene Foster Taylor, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Angelia (Taylor) and Don Yates, Georgia, and Tracie (Taylor) and Tim Candler, Kingsport; a son, Michael Lee Taylor, Kingsport; grandchildren, Michelle Yates and Jordan Candler; his mother and stepfather, Irene and Jack Brummitt, Kingsport; and a brother, Lee Edward Taylor II, Missouri.

GATE CITY - Mrs. Leliar Clendenen Taylor, 73, Gate City, died early Wednesday morning [ 12/4/1963 ] in a Marion , Va. , hospital after a long illness.

She is survived by her husband, Worley E. Taylor, Gate City; two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Miller and Mrs. Betty Sue Chapman, both of Gate City; one son, Eugene Taylor, Gate City; one sister, Mrs. Venus Dishner, Bristol; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Clinchport Christian Church. Rev. N. P. King and Rev. M. D. Hammond will conduct the service. Burial will be

in Holston View Cemetery.

Lowell Eugene “Bud” Taylor

NICKELSVILLE, Va. — Lowell Eugene “Bud” Taylor, 69, Nickelsville, Va. (Taylor Town community) passed away on Monday ( Nov. 1, 2010 ) at his residence.

He was born July 6, 1941 and was a son of Isaac Taylor and Sally Louetta Good Taylor . He attended Nickelsville High School , served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam War beteran.

He was preceded in death by his father, Isaac Taylor and brothers-in-law, Jerry L. Elliott and Albert “Mack” Shelton .

Survivors include his mother, Sally Louetta Good Taylor; sisters, Betty T. Elliott, Mary Vermillion and her husband, Patton, Nell Repass and her husband, Paul and Alice T. Shelton; brothers, Claude Donald Taylor and Scott L. Taylor; aunts, Ruby Good Scott, Ilene Good Frazier, Lotus Mc-Connell Good and Sally Taylor Fuller; uncle, Joe E. Good; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

At his request, Lowell was cremated. Family and friends are asked to meet at the Taylor Cemetery for a “Gathering of Friends” from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday.

Burial of the cremains will follow at 2 p.m.

He was a retired fanner and a veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Baptist Church and a life-long resident of Scott County . Va.

MILO TAYLOR DIED SUNDAY

County Surveyor, Prominent Citizen and Ex-Confederate Dead

Mr. Milo Taylor died at about 7:00 p.m. Sunday. [5/3/1925] He had been in feeble health for something over two years, or from the time he fell from a porch at Slant. For a time he was able to walk about the house, and on probably two occasions he went to Gate City, but he never regained his strength. For some weeks before his death he was confined to his bed most of the time. On last Sunday he seemed as if he was choking, and then all at once he relaxed as if paralyzed, and the end soon followed.

Mr. Taylor was born October 28,1841 in Scott County, near the place where he died, May 3, 1925. He was a son of James A. Taylor and Catherine Taylor, whose maiden name was Catherine Stewart. As a boy he attended the old time schools and as was said in those days he learned to read and write “and cipher too” - Advantages in that early day in this part of the country were few. Men were still struggling with the forests and with “distance from markets.” Population was scattered and schools were few.

Just as Mr. Taylor was reaching manhood, the War Between the States broke out. At the age of 19, a short time before his 20th birthday in 1861, he volunteered and joined the Confederate army. He was a member of Company C, 25th Virginia Cavalry. He was in the 127th Battalion. Before the War, he was a member of the militia and attended the Old Muster Days. Those were days set apart by the State for the two-fold purpose of securing recruits to the local militia and of drilling. On the Muster days the citizen soldiery was schooled or drilled in marching, the use of guns and bayonets and in some instances in the use of the broad sword, or saber was taught. These Muster Day drills formed the basis of the military organization of the South. After the drills were over the drums “were beat” for volunteers.

KINGSPORT - Nell Lane Taylor, 67, passed away Thursday (Feb. 3, 2005) with her family by her side after a long courageous battle with cancer.

She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Cora Lane Carter; father, Rhea Lane; brothers, John and Paul Lane; sister, Margaret Caudill; and great-grandson, Adam Cain Childress.

Nina M. (Wells) Taylor

GATE CITY, Va. - Nina Wells Taylor, 80, Gate City, Va., entered into rest on Saturday (Jan. 13, 2007) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Mrs. Taylor was born in Lee County, Va. on Oct. 12, 1926, a daughter of the late Letcher and Angie Collier Wells.

She graduated from Dryden High School, started college at 16 years of age and graduated from Hiawassee College. She started her teaching career, lasting 44 years, in Lee, Wise and Scott counties, after receiving her BA degree from Radford College in Radford, Va.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Carl E. Taylor; sister, Betty W. Fleenor; and brothers, Bill and Jack Wells.

Surviving are her sons, Carl Michael Taylor, Gate City, Va., and David Anthony Taylor, Gatlinburg, Tenn.; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Ann Taylor, Gate City, Va.; grandchildren, Alisha Dawn Taylor, Will Taylor, Matthew Taylor; one great-grandson, Noah Taylor; brothers and sisters-in-law, Art and Joyce Wells, Hubert and Ruth Wells, sisters and brother-in-law, Janice Burchette, Dot Tindle and Ann and Paul Collier; along with several nieces and nephews.

Ralph Logan Taylor “Candy Man”, 79, of Kingsport, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2012, at the Wexford House, Kingsport.

He worked hard all his life for his family and is at peace. He was born in Kingsport and moved to Yuma, Virginia at an early age. He worked at P.C. Cooper Construction Co. in Blountville, TN for 33 years. He then worked for the Sullivan County Hwy Department and retired in 1995. He attended St. Matthew United Methodist Church. Ralph was an avid NASCAR Fan. He was well known for making candy year round especially at Christmas. He never met a stranger and would give his shirt off his back if you needed it. He has gone to be with his son, Randy; and his mom, dad, brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Ralph Taylor in 2004; his parents, John Logan and Eliza Click Taylor; four sisters, Evelyn Brickey, Ruth Fleenor, Frances Jenkins and Phyllis Palmer; two brothers, Jack Taylor, Bobby “Mouse” Taylor and a niece, Judy Taylor Gibson.

Ralph is survived by a dear friend and companion, Maxine Powers; daughter, Gloria Jean Mahan and husband Glenn; his granddaughter that he is very proud of, Amber Dawn Mahan all of Indian Springs; four brothers, Tommy Taylor & wife Florence of Kingsport, Don Taylor of Kingsport, James Taylor & wife Irene and Eddie Taylor & wife, Carolyn; one uncle; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his special family, Terisa, Jesse, and Elizabeth Powers of Gray; Kathy, Nikki, Andy Carter and Justice Lewis of Kingsport; Cheree Brown & husband Chris, Candra and Cameron Howell, and Sam Powers of Knoxville.

Robert Carl Taylor, 59, of 109 Brookwood Drive, Bristol Tennessee, died at 4:45 p.m. Sunday [9/8/1974] at Bristol Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Mr. Taylor was a lifelong resident of Bristol and a retired employee of the Raytheon Co.

NICKELSVILLE, Va. - Roy Lee Taylor Sr., 75, entered into rest Friday (March 7, 2003) at his residence.

Mr. Taylor was born Jan. 7, 1928 in Scott County, Va., and was the son of the late George and Orean McConnell Taylor. Mr. Taylor retired from Roberts Tire and Recapping.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Taylor is preceded in death by his wife, Ebbie Taylor in 2001 and a son, Roy Lee Taylor Jr.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Retha Taylor and John Lech, Wilkes Barre, Pa.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Betty Taylor, Fall Branch, William and Liza Taylor, Nickelsville, Va. and Michael and Patty Taylor, Nickelsville, Va.; four grandchildren, Sarah, Mary, Beverly and Brett; great-grandchildren, Melissa, Becky, Hunter Isaiah, Celina and Honi Brooke; brothers, Delmar Taylor, Fall Branch, and Charlie Elwood Taylor, Nickelsville, Va.; one sister, Lois Noel Nickelsville, Va.; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Lelbert Thornburg, the Rev. Bill Taylor and the Rev. Eddie Taylor officiating.

Music will be provided by David and Debra Easterling.

Burial will follow the service at Taylor Family Cemetery, Nickelsville, Va. in the Taylortown community.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

R. Milo Taylor, 72, 487 Roan Street, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday [7/31/1975] at Indian Path Hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Clinchport, Va., he had lived in Kingsport for the past 47 years. Taylor was employed by Tennessee Eastman Company for 40 years, retiring from Holston Defense Corp. in 1968. He was a member of the Ketron Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Flanary Taylor, Kingsport; one son, Russell C. Taylor, Kingsport; two daughters, Mrs. J.T. (Joyce) Rogers, Kingsport, and Mrs. L.E. (Louise) Marriner, Goldsboro, N.C.; one brother, Charles H. Taylor, Hiltons, Va.; and six grandchildren.

Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home is in charge.

Duffield, VA - Samuel Craig Taylor, 46, Duffield, VA passed away, Friday, January 24, 2014 at his residence on Purchase Ridge of Scott County, VA of an apparent heart attack.

Craig was born in Sullivan County, TN on April 18, 1967 to the late Arthur Paul Eugene Taylor and Linda M. Clendenin Bledsoe.

He had a love for the outdoors and loved hunting and fishing with his hunting buddies.

In addition to his father, his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Georgia Clendenin; paternal grandparents, Arthur and Oakie Taylor; step mother, Rosie Taylor; his special uncle, Thomas Clendenin, Jr.; special aunt, Marcella Rhoton; uncles, James Chester Taylor and Keith Taylor; aunt, Mary Etta Todd; and several cousins preceded him in death.

He is survived by his mother. Linda Bledsoe and step father, Jimmy Bledsoe, who raised Craig as his own; step grandparents, Kyle and Edna Bledsoe, Fairview, VA; half sisters, Angela Ramey and family, VA and Renee Woods and family, Wilmington, NC; uncles, B.A. Clendenin, Ft. Blackmore, VA and Corky Clendenin, Church Hill, TN, who he loved as brothers, Leonard Neeley, Keokee, VA, Frank Taylor, Gate City, VA, Denny Taylor, MI, Jerry Taylor, Ft. Blackmore, VA, and Dwight Taylor, Gate City, VA; aunts, Reba Clendenin (his little angel), Duffield, VA, Lulia Maine, Wise, VA, Della Smith, Richmond, VA, Margie Thompson, Kingsport, TN, and Frances Depew, Kingsport, TN; special friends, Keith Carr, Gray, TN and Conley Rhoton, Duffield, VA; a whole bunch of nieces and nephews, who he dearly loved; and a host of cousins and friends.

DUFFIELD, Va. -- The Rev. Sam Patton Taylor, 88, died Tuesday ( April 21, 1998 ) at his residence.

Rev. Taylor was born in Scott County, Va. on March 25, 1910 , he was the son of the late John Cooley and Sena Powers Taylor. He was a minister for 63 years, serving the past 17 years at the Copper Creek Community Church . He retired from the Scott County School Board after 13 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Mullins Taylor, Duffield, Va.; three daughters, Mrs. Roy (Phyllis) Taylor Marshall, Mrs. Lincoln (Patsy) Taylor Chaffin and Mrs. Lowell (Rosemary) Taylor Vicars, all of Kingsport; a son, Benny Taylor , Kingsport; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Davidson, Gate City, Va., and Edith Mae Stewart, Clinchport, Va.; a brother, James K. Taylor , Clinchport, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.

Masonic services will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. by the Clinchport Masonic Lodge No. 267.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Thomas Earl “Tommy” Taylor, of Charlotte, N.C. passed away April 6, 2013, following a massive heart attack.

He was born on May 20, 1948 in Kingsport to Earl and Lucille Qualls Taylor.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jack Taylor of Shreveport, La., who passed away March 30, 2013.

Tommy grew up in Natural Tunnel, Va. and graduated from Rye Cove High School in 1966 where he was a member of the football and basketball teams. He was also a graduate of ETSU.

Although he had lived in North Carolina for several years, his love for Scott County never faltered. Tommy always kept in touch with all his friends and former classmates. He enjoyed camping at Natural Tunnel State Park and inviting his friends to come and sit by the fire and reminisce about growing up in the Natural Tunnel area and talking about all the good times he experienced while attending Rye Cove High School. Tommy enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He wll be sorely missed by by his family, friends, co-workers and classmates.

He is survived by his aunt, Ann Williams; and cousins, Gary Williams and Courtney Williams Jessee of Duffield. He is also survived by several other cousins and numerous friends throughout the United States.

A memorial service will be held beginning at 4:30 p.m., April 13, 2013, at the Natural Tunnel Cove Ridge Center.

DELAWARE, Ohio - Virginia B. Taylor , 86, formerly of Kingsport, died Tuesday ( May 11, 1999 ) at Norworth Nursing Home, Worthington , Ohio .

Born June 22, 1912 in Cincinnati , Ohio to Thomas and Elsie (Brusman) Shelton , she was a resident of Kingsport most of her life. She was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport where she lettered in track and was a founder of a local Girls Scout Troop. She was a homemaker, a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, a Girl Scout Troop leader and a volunteer for the Kingsport Red Cross. She also volunteered at nursing homes in Kingsport .

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville C. in 1981 and her brother, Leroy Shelton.

Surviving are her daughter, Betsy Taylor Bales, Delaware, Ohio; four grandchildren, Michele (Heath) Liskai, Curtice, Ohio, Jennylyn (Lloyd) Rutledge, Michael Conley Bales and Amanda Elizabeth Bales, all of Delaware, Ohio; 10 great-grandchildren; one niece, Ellen McNiff, Aberdeen, Md.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kingsport .

Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Bethel Presbyterian Church fellowship hall.

Contributions may be made to the Red Cross of Kingsport .

KINGSPORT - Virginia "Ginny" Garmie Taylor, 90, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Jan. 5, 2005) at Indian Path Medical Center.

She was born in Coeburn, Va. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hobart C. Taylor; two brothers, Worley Adams Sr. and Charlie Hansel Adams; her parents, James William Adams and Francis Melinda Holbrook Adams; and an infant great-grandson, Joshua William Bedford.

Surviving are her son, Ronald Wayne Taylor and wife Carol of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; her daughter, Norma Sue Ketola and husband Carl of Oklahoma City, Okla.; four grandchildren, Catherine Taylor, Michael Taylor and wife Julie, Sarah Bedford and husband Jeffrey, and Stephen Ketola and wife Regina; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Sarah Cophene Vaughn, Goldie Ruth Dobber, Margie Arlene Bailey and Viola Adams, all of Kingsport; two brothers, Albert Beecher Adams, Nederland, Tex., and James Ervin Adams, Rock Hill, S.C.

ROCKWELL, N.C. - Mrs. Wanda Christian Taylor, 76, died Monday (Nov. 18, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, N.C.

Born in Scott County, Va., on Sept. 9, 1926, she retired in 1990 from Kemet-Electronics Company, in production where she made capacitores. She attended Scott County, Va., schools and was of the Baptist faith.

Wanda and Lawrence were married on July 10, 1945.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Franklin and Ollie Mac Pearcy Christian.

Surviving are her husband, Lawrence Edward Taylor; two sons, David Allen Taylor and Willie Louis Taylor, both of Rockwell, N.C.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Ronald Christian, Ralph Christian, Jonnie Christian and Eric Christian, all of Kingsport; five sisters, Sylvia Day, Jo Davis, Iva Jean Amyx and Shirley Mowdy, all of Kingsport, and Eva Adams, Greenville, S.C.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the Powles Funeral Home Chapel, Rockwell, N.C., with the Rev. Bill O'Neal, pastor of Calvary Family Worship Center, officiating.

Burial will be in the St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery.
