Reuben Mac Taylor

KINGSPORT — Reuben Mac Taylor, 72, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Dec. 3, 2008) at the residence of his son in Chuckey.

He was born in Greene County, lived most of his life in Kingsport and was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School.

He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army, having served over 22 years.

Reuben retired from J. P. Stevens Corp. after over 40 years of service and was also a former member of the Kingsport Lifesaving Crew. He was of the Baptist faith.

Reuben was the son of the late George Taylor and the late Mary (Fincher) Taylor.

Survivors include his wife of over 47 years, Shirley Rhoton Taylor, of the home; his son, Michael Taylor and wife, Vicki of Kingsport; his granddaughter, Shawna; along with several cousins.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga St., Kingsport.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel at 7 p.m. with Pastor Bobby Rhoton officiating.

Military graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Lovelace Baptist Cemetery Fall Branch, conducted by the VFW Post #3382 and the Tennessee National Guard.

Pallbearers will be his friends.

The family wished to extend a very special thank you to the nurses and doctors at Indian Path Medical Center, ICU and 5th floor.

Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Taylor family.

Bernice (Taylor) Egan Templeton

KINGSPORT - Bernice Taylor Egan Templeton, 86, of the Wexford House in Kingsport, died on Saturday (March 20, 2004) after an extended period of declining health.

A native of Fort Blackmore, Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Taylor and Mandy Duncan Taylor.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, Fred W. Egan and Floyd Templeton; four brothers, Echol Taylor, Glen Taylor, Fred E. Taylor and Claude Taylor; and one sister, Mrs. Howard (Myrtle Gene) Carter.

She was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church. Prior to entering the health care facility; most of her life was spent as a homemaker and caretaker for her family.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Surviving are one daughter, Beverly Foster, Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Susan Wright, Atlanta, Ga., and Carter Foster, Los Angeles, Ca.; one great-granddaughter, Ashley Wright, Atlanta, Ga.; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. James (Ina) Parr, Asheville, N.C., Mrs. Fred (Tennie) Taylor, Mrs. Kyle (Pearl) Pressley, and Mrs. Melvin (Joe) Egan, all of Kingsport; six nephews, Philip Taylor, Hal Taylor, Brian Egan, Duane Egan, Jerry Egan, and Berkley Underwood; and one niece, Mrs. Oscar (Carolyn) Lindsey.

Family members will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Charles Roberts officiating. Following the funeral service, the body will be laid to rest in the Taylor Cemetery at Fort Blackmore, Va. on a hill above her family home.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA Center of Excellence at Emory University School of Medicine, 1841 Clifton Road, Atlanta, Ga. 30329.

Terrill Lane Thiele

Obituary from Kingsport Times-News for descendants of Scott Co Ancestors

KNOXVILLE - Terrill Lane Thiele, died Tuesday evening (Oct. 5,1999) at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer.

Born in Nora Springs, Iowa, he was the son of the late Mabel and Evert Thiele of Iowa.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and held graduate degrees in engineering from Iowa State University and Washington University. After retiring from McDonnell Douglas, where he worked on the Apollo Space Program, he came to Knoxville as an engineer with TVA until his retirement in December 1994.

He was a devoted husband and father.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Lane Thiele ; sons, Marcus Thiele and Mayne Thiele , Knoxville; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Dr. Ben Blalock, Starkville, Ms; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Lauren House Richardson, Knoxville, Dr. Matt and Amy Kassem Richardson, Knoxville and Michael and Peggy Thiele, St. Louis; grandsons, Quillen Blalock, Nathaniel Blalock and Grant Richardson; sister, Suzann Sailer, Iowa Falls, Iowa; mother-in-law, Bonnie Lane, Kingsport; brother-in-law and wife, Dr. Don and Ingrid Lane, Kingsport; sister-in-law and husband, Patsy and Dr. Bill Potter, Kingsport; niece and husband, Amy and Greg Steisslinger, Morristown; nephews, Andy Potter, Knoxville, Stephen Lane, Johnson City and Charles Lane, Indianapolis.

Albert Lee Tichenor

BIG STONE GAP, Va. — Ret. Sgt. 1st Class, Albert Lee Tichenor, 82, went to be with the Lord on Friday (Nov. 14, 2008) at Heritage Hall Health Care in Big Stone Gap.
Albert served in the U.S. Army during World War II and in the Virginia National Guard in Big Stone Gap. He retired as a Sgt. 1st Class with 24 years, two months and two days. He was a member of Durhams Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Cracker’s Neck.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Bertie Egan Tichenor; his parents, Charles and Sarah (Reedy) Tichenor; two brothers, Milton and Robert Tichenor; and five sisters, Margaret Robison, Edith Colley, Belva Dotson, Mildred Schmidtin and Violet Howard.
Survivors include one son, Robert Ti c h e n o r (Patti) of Johnson City; one daughter, Peggy Tichenor Lambert of Big Stone Gap; one brother, Charles Tichenor (Elizabeth) of Baton Rouge, La.; one sister, Mary Jane Cox of Ocala, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Valerie Huffman (Jerry) of East Stone Gap, Va., Danny Lambert, Jr. of Bristol, Tenn., Shelly Hirsch (Doug) of Lavernia, Tex., Heather Ramos (Pete) of Victoria, Tex., Kathy Harper of Haysville, Kans., Kris McCauley (Natalie) of Dickenson, Tex. and Matt McCauley (Wendy) Haysville, Kans.; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Bertie (Egan) Tichenor

BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Bertie Egan Tichenor, 72, passed away Monday (May 24, 2004) at Wellmont-Lonesome Pine Hospital following an extended illness.

She was born in Powell Valley, Va., and resided in Big Stone Gap her entire life. She was a seamstress for the former Big Stone Gap Sewing Factory and the Norton Garment Company, combining for 17 years of service. She was an Avon representative with 14 years of service.

She was a member of Durham's Chapel Church in the Crackers Neck community.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Armina Blanche (Reedy) Egan and Ulysses Grant Egan.

Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Albert Lee Tichenor; her son, Robert Tichenor and wife, Patti, Johnson City; her daughter, Peggy T. Lambert, Big Stone Gap; seven grandchildren, Danny (Amy) Lambert Jr., Valerie (Jerry) Huffman, Shelly (Doug) Hirsch, Heather (Pete) Ramos, Matt McCauley, Kris McCauley and Kathy Harper; eight great-grandchildren, Austin Huffman, Hailee Huffman, Miracle Monroe, Breanna Harper, Dalton Hernandez, Hanna McCauley, Eric Hirsch and Rachel Hirsch; two brothers, Millard (Sally) Egan, San Diego, Calif., and James "Jay" (Judy) Egan, Big Stone Gap; two sisters, Irene (Jack) Sorah, Johnson City, and Doris Laney, Fayetteville, Tenn.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Ralph Isaac Tipton

KINGSPORT - Ralph Tipton, 71, entered into rest Tuesday (Oct. 18, 2005) at Greystone Health Care Center, Blountville.

He was born in Scott County, Va., on July 18, 1934 to the late James Harvey Tipton and Lillie Estelle Bishop Tipton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Pierson Tipton, and second wife, Anna Ruth Hall Tipton; sister, Lillie Mae Tipton Thacker; brothers, Eugene, James, Charlie and Claude Lee Tipton; stepson, Jeff Patrick.

Mr. Tipton worked for Love Railroad at Holston Defense for over 30 years.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Jehovah Barrett; two sons and daughter-in-law, Steve and Linda Tipton and Michael Tipton; grandsons; Cody Tipton; a very special grandson, Dustin Barrett; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis Osborne, Dungannon, Va., Pam Tipton France, Judy and Wayne Pendleton, Joyce and Jimmy Dockery, all of Gate City, Va.; three sisters-in-law, Mary Tipton and Cenna Tipton, both of Clinchport, Va., and Ginger Tipton, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. The family will also be receiving family and friends at his sister's residence, Joyce Dockery.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Alvin Skelton officiating.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Holston View Cemetery. The family will meet at 1:15 p.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

The family wishes to give a special thanks to Jason Bragg, Elizabeth Pierson and to all his caregivers.

George W. Tittsworth

Gate City, Va. — (Spl.) — Funeral services for George W. Tittsworth, 76, prominent Scott County farmer and livestock grower who died at noon Wednesday at his home in Holston Springs, will be held at 2 p. m. Friday at Prospect Church In Yuma. Burial will be in Holston View, with nephews acting as pallbearers and neighbor women as flower bearers.

Howard Leon Todd

GATE CITY, Va. - Elder Howard L. Todd, 79, went to be with the Lord Thursday evening (Aug. 22, 2002) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was a member of Zion Baptist Church and was a retired minister.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Russell Todd and Elizabeth Davis Todd; sister, Betty Kerns; and brothers, Jimmy Todd, Benjamin Todd, Gene Todd and T.R. Todd.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Madeline Eads Todd, Gate City, Va.; daughters, Deborah Davenport, Kingsport and Donna Malone and husband Paul Malone, Bristol, Va.; grandchildren, Lisa, Tim and Matt, Todd and wife, Robbie; great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Michael and Kenzie; former son-in-law, John Davenport; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., and anytime at the residence of a daughter, Deborah Davenport, 500 Fleetwood Drive #2, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Paul Blessing officiating. Eulogy will be given by Paul Malone.

Claude Tomlinson

Gate City, Va.—(Spl— Claude Tomlinson, 52, died Friday at 5:15 a. m. at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Elwood Bishop, at Duffield.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p. m. at Peters Chapel Church at Duffield with the Rev. Claude Taylor in charge. Burial will be in the family cemetery at Jasper, Va.

Mr. Tomlinson is survived by another daughter, Mrs. Robert Easterling of Norton; two brothers, John of Natural Tunnel and Charles Tomlinson of Duffield.

A lifelong resident of Scott County, he was a son of the late Whitt and Lula Warfe Tomlinson.

A farmer by occupation, he was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the Primitive Baptist church.

Lesa Robin (Hillman) Tritt

DUNGANNON, Va. — Lesa Robin Hillman Tritt, 49, of Big Stoney Creek, escaped the bondage of this earthly life to make Heaven her home on Monday (Nov. 17, 2008).
Lesa was the most wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend this world has ever known. She was loved by her family and her strength and courage will be the rock that keeps them strong. Lesa was a child of God and stood boldly on the promise that she would be waiting on Heaven’s shore.
She was preceded in death by her father, John W. Hillman; her grandparents; and her mother and father-in-law.
She is survived by her dear husband, the love of her life, Ricky Tritt; son, her world, TJ Tritt, both of the home; two-step daughters, Tressa Tritt and Samantha Helton and husband, Chris; her precious mother, Hazel Hillman; one brother and sister-in-law, Gregory and Barbara Hillman; one sister and brother-in-law, Roger and Katie Carter; one nephew, Stewart Splawn and wife, Savannah; two precious nieces to whom she was their "Nini," Natasha Hillman and Megan Carter. Lesa also left a huge extended family of in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, other nephews and her church family.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home, 2060 U.S. Hwy. 23N, Weber City, Va. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Barron Duffy and the Rev. Randall Shupe officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Carter Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, Va. Family and friends who wish to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:45 a.m. to go into procession to the cemetery.

Betty Sue (Page) Rhoton Truman

DUFFIELD, Va. — Betty Page Truman, 75, passed away Tuesday (Nov. 18, 2008) at Ridgecrest Manor in Duffield.
She was born in Scott County, Va., on Dec. 10, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Eugene Page and Gertrude Fields Page. She retired from Gem City Engineering in Dayton, Ohio, as a machine operator.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Everette Rhoton; sister, Nannie Kate Houseright; brothers, Bill, Bud, Willie and Tommy Page.
Surviving are her husband, Everett Allen Truman, Jr., Dayton, Ohio; daughters, Judy Gilliam and husband, Echol, Duffield, Va., Patsy Combs and husband, Gene, Lewisburg, Ohio, Reta Peters and husband, Michael, Yuma, Va.; son, Bobby Rhoton and wife, Nancy, Hiltons, Va.; sister, Linda Smith, Yuma, Va.; brother, Mike Page, Baileyton; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., and other times at the residence of Judy and Echol Gilliam.

Killed In France

Duffield, Va. -S'Sg. Charlie E. Upchurch has been officially reported by the U. S. War Department as "killed in action", somewhere in France, September 23. He had been in the service of the armed forces for the past six years. His wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Upchurch and son, Charles E. Upchurch 2 make their home here.

Other survivors are his parents Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Upchurch of Duffield, Va.; four sisters; Mrs. James Roach of East Stone Gap, Va.; Mrs. Ray Bailey of Big Stone Gap, Va.; Mrs. Luke Lamb, Duffield, Va.; Mrs. Robert Sallie, Duffield, Va.; six brothers; E. B. of Big Stone Gap; J. E., W. R., I. N., F. R., all of Kingsport; and J. D. Upchurch of Camp Clairborne, La. Sergeant Upchurch was a member of the Baptist Church of Duffield, Va.

Celia "Sid" (Jones) Upchurch

KINGSPORT - Celia "Sid" Upchurch, 94, went to her heavenly home Monday (Jan. 13, 2003) at Indian Path Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born in Scott County, Va., and was a lifelong resident of Big Stone Gap, Va. Her residence for the past eight years has been with her daughter and caregiver, Helen Carpenter of Kingsport.

She was a loving mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer B. Upchurch; parents, Elbert and Nancy Jones; brothers, Art Jones, Willard Jones and Mesby Jones; sister, Donnie Chandler.

Surviving are daughters, Helen Carpenter, Kingsport, Marie Chisenhall, Dade City, Fla.; son, Jimmy Upchurch, Big Stone Gap, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. Friends may also call anytime at the home of her daughter, Helen Carpenter.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Wrightly Salling officiating.

Burial will follow in the Glencoe Cemetery (Big Stone Gap, Va.)

Floyd Ingle Upchurch

DAYTON, OHIO - Floyd Ingle Upchurch, 91, of Dayton, Ohio, died Wednesday (March 22, 2006).

He retired from Sheffield/Bendix Corp. and was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church in Dayton.

Mr. Upchurch was a member of the Kingsport Lodge #688 F.& A.M. in the southern jurisdiction of Kingsport.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Magline "Maggie" Upchurch and son, Glen Daniel Upchurch.

Surviving are his daughter, Delores Jean Upthegrove of Dayton, Ohio; a son, Paul E. Upchurch of Washington; seven grandchildren, Lisa, Mary, Paula, Susan, Danny, Donna, and Teresa; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Mitchell M. Whisnant officiating.

Jimmie Lynn Upchurch

BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Jimmie L. Upchurch, 69, passed away Tuesday (June 15, 2004) at Wellmont-Bristol Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Roda, Va., and lived most of his life in Big Stone Gap. He was a welder and owner of the former Sportscenter in Big Stone Gap. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was of the Holiness faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer B. and Celia (Jones) Upchurch.

Surviving are his wife, Debbie Turkett Upchurch; two sons, Justin Neal Upchurch and Jimmie L. Upchurch Jr., both of Big Stone Gap; two daughters, Tina Joan Cole and Sandy Bailey, both of Big Stone Gap; five grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Chisenhall, Dade City, Fla., and Helen Carpenter, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

Magaline "Maggie" (Harkleroad" Upchurch

DAYTON, Ohio - Magline "Maggie" Upchurch, 85, died at her home in Dayton on Monday (June 23, 2003).

She was born Oct. 1, 1917 in Kingsport to the late James F. and Nora Harkleroad. Mrs. Upchurch was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio.

A son, Glen Daniel Upchurch preceded her in death.

Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Floyd I. Upchurch, Dayton; one daughter, Delores Jean Upthegrove, Dayton; one son, Paul E. Upchurch, Oak Harbor, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Lisa, Mary, Paul, Susan, Danny, Donna, Teresa, and their families; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Bud Daniel Vaughn

DUFFIELD, Va. - Bud Daniel Vaughn, 81, entered into eternal rest Saturday morning (May 15, 1999) at Indian Path Medical Center in Kingsport.

Born March 29, 1918 in Lee County, Va., he was a son of the late Tucker and Laura Fritz Vaughn . Mr. Vaughn was a retired miner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Clarence and Herman Vaughn ; three sisters, Louise Mack, Dora Tomlinson and Martha Edens; three brothers, George, Bass and Willie Vaughn .

Surviving are his wife, Ida Bell Vaughn , Duffield, Va.; four daughters, Marie Ramey, Dryden, Va., Sue Burton, Hiltons, Va., Debbie Egan and Bobbie Payne, both of Duffield, Va.; five sons, Claude Vaughn , Church Hill, Leonard Vaughn , Bowling Green, Va., Jerry Vaughn , Clinchport, Va., Errett and Pete Vaughn , both of Weber City, Va.; two sisters, Bonnie Bloomer, Gaithersburg, Md. and Cordie Shufflebarger, Dryden, Va.; 30 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Duffield Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel with Evangelist Garry Hood and the Rev. Terry Rhoton officiating.

Burial will be in Adams Cemetery in Duffield, Va. Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Ida Bell (Barnett) Vaughn

HILTONS, Va. — Ida Barnett Vaughn, 87, of Hiltons, Va., passed away on Sunday (Nov. 16, 2008) at the Brian Center Healthcare in Weber City, Va.
Born April 3, 1921, in Duffield, Va., she was the daughter of the late John and JoAnn Barnett Lane.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Vaughn; daughter, Marie Robbins; sons, Herman, Clarence and Jerry Vaughn.
She is survived by her daughters, Sue Burton of Hiltons, Debbie "Joy" Egans and Bobbie Payne, both of Duffield; sons, Claude Vaughn and wife, Mildred of Church Hill, Leonard Vaughn and wife, Ethel of Yuma, Errette Vaughn and wife, Debbie and Pete Vaughn and wife, Edna, both of Gate City; daughters-in-law, Sherry Vaughn Sawyer of Mabe, Va. and Beulah Vaughn of Big Stone Gap, Va.; brother, Ray Adams and wife, Ann of Duffield; 33 grandchildren and 69 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Garry Hood and the Rev. Rick Kincer officiating.
Music will be provided by the Durham Chapel Quartet.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Adams Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:55 p.m.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Jerry Mitchell Vaughn

DUFFIELD, Va. — Jerry M. Vaughn, 46, of the Mabe community, died Sunday (Nov. 11, 2001) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Born in Scott County, he was a son of Ida Vaughn and the late Bud Vaughn. He retired from the Sherwood Press and was a former member of the Duffield Fire and Rescue Squad.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Vaughn.

Surviving are his wife, Sherri Diane Vaughn, Duffield; a daughter, Mrs. Derrick (Tesha) Hensley, Duffield; a son, Mickey (Cindy) Vaughn, Duffield; a granddaughter, Keila Vaughn, Duffield; his mother, Ida Vaughn, Duffield; sisters, Mrs. Jay (Debbie) Egan, Duffield, Mrs. John (Marie) Ramey, Duffield, Sue Burton, Hiltons, Va., Mrs. Stevie (Bobbie) Payne, Duffield; brothers, Errett (Debbie) Vaughn, Gate City, Va., Pete (Edna) Vaughn, Gate City, Va., Claude (Mildred) Vaughn, Church Hill, Leonard (Ethel) Vaughn, Blackstone, Va.; his in-laws, Chester (Jerri) Alley; sister-in-law, Mrs. James (Robin) Madden, Lynn Garden; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at any time today at the family residence (Route 3, Box 256B, Mabe community of Duffield).

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Durham’s Chapel Church with Terry Rhoton and Rick Kincer officiating.

Music will be provided by The Durham’s Chapel Quartet and Cleda Sampson.

Burial will be in the McNew Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be friends and family.

The Duffield Funeral Home at Thomas Village is in charge of the arrangements.

Mallie Lou Hurt Vermillion

HILTONS, Va. - Mallie Lou Hurt Vermillion, 94, of Route 1, went to be with Jesus at 12:35 p.m. Monday (Sept. 1, 2003) at her home.

She was born in Washington County, Va., on Sept. 5, 1908, the daughter of the late William Bill and Hattie Smith Hurt. She retired as a nurses aide from Hicks Nursing Home.

Mrs. Vermillion was a dedicated Christian lady and attended several different churches in the community.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, S. V. "Jack" Vermillion, who was a longtime preacher in the community; son, Samuel Edward Vermillion; twin granddaughters, Sharon and Karen Vermillion; grandson, Ivan Vermillion; step-grandson, Shannon Carter; brothers, Earl, Curtis and Kenneth Hurt.

HILTONS, Va. - Samuel Edward Vermillion, 57, of Route 1, departed this life Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was born in Scott County, Va., on September 20, 1944. He was an electrician and member of I.B.E.W. No. 934.

He was a veteran of the Marine reserves.

He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel V. Vermillion.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Vermillion, of the home; mother, Mallie Vermillion, Hiltons; two sons and daughter-in-law, Dennis Vermillion, and Bobby and Rebecca Vermillion, all of Hiltons; two granddaughters, Kayla and Ashley; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Roy Lee Depew, Mount Carmel, Elaine and Kelley Culbertson, Gate City; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Junior and Mary Vermillion, Bill and Nadine Vermillion , all of Hiltons, Walter and Pauline Vermillion, Rogersville; several nieces and nephews.

ROGERSVILLE - Walter Clyde Vermillion, 62, of 176 Old Highway 11W, passed away Saturday (June 12, 2004) at the Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center following an extended illness.

Mr. Vermillion was a native of Scott County, Va., but had spent most of his adult life in Sullivan and Hawkins Counties. He was a member of Phipps Bend Free Will Baptist Church and was a retired employee of I.B.E.W.

He was preceded in death by his parents, S.V. and Mallie Hurt Vermillion; grandson, Ronald Heath Leonard; and brother, Sam Vermillion.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Mallett Vermillion, Rogersville; two sons and daughter-in-law, Johnny Allen Morrison, Bristol, Tenn., Jeffery Dexter and Carla Morrison, Killen, Ala.; one daughter, Marcia Diane Vermillion, Kingsport; five grandchildren, Ed Leonard, Jennifer, Andrea and Justin Morrison, and Taylor Chapman; two great- grandchildren, Daniel and Kassidy Leonard; two brothers, Junior Vermillion and Billy Vermillion, both of Hilton, Va.; two sisters, Mary Lee Depew, Mount Carmel, and Elaine Culbertson, Hilton, Va.; several nieces and nephews.
