William Everett Gibbons, M.D.

ROGERSVILLE - William Everett Gibbons, M. D., age 85, of 206 Dobson Drive, Rogersville, Tenn., died Friday (July 27, 2007) at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital, Rogersville, Tenn., following an extended illness due to Alzheimer's Disease.

Dr. Gibbons was a prominent physician of Hawkins County, having received his Golden Graduate certificate in Oct. 1998 and 50 year pin from the University of Tennessee School of Medicine, Memphis, Tenn., in recognition of his 50 years of medical practice.

He was born in Mills, New Mexico and as a child lived in New Mexico, Arkansas and Missouri.

He attended premedical school at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark., and the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Tex.

Dr. Gibbons attended medical school at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, Tenn., graduating in 1948. He served his internship at John Gaston Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

He first established a medical practice in southwest Virginia to work with a coalfield doctor, Joshua P. Sutherland, M.D., in Grundy, Va., in 1951.

He was recalled by the Navy in 1952 and served two years in the Navy Medical Corps (Dec. 1952 - Oct. 1954 having served at Tripler Army Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii), after having served in the U. S. Navy Sept. 1943 - June 1946. After discharge, he came to Rogersville in 1954 and was employed by TVA in the medical clinic at John Sevier Steam Plant.

Dr. Gibbons went into private practice one year later at the suggestion of Dr. Walter L. Goforth, Rogersville physician.

In 1959 he went back to school for a year of post graduate training in internal medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in Philadelphia. There he was a member of the Phi Rho Sigma.

He remained active in general practice and had a large obstetrical practice, delivering approximately 3,600 babies during his career. He gave up his ob practice in 1984 because of his health but continued his general practice until 1988.

During his years of practice, Dr. Gibbons was a Life Time Member of the Southern Medical Association, a member of the Tennessee Medical Association, the Hawkins County Medical Society, and a charter member of the Hawkins County Memorial Hospital medical staff. He served as the medical advisor for the Hawkins County Department of Human Services Child Abuse Board, the local Cancer Society and was the Hawkins County Medical Examiner for 23 years. When he retired the Medical Examiner post, he had held that position longer than any other in the state of Tennessee. He also served as the Hawkins County Memorial Hospital Lab Director from 1961-1988.

He was honored by the Rotary Club and presented the Paul Harris Fellow Award for "Service Above Self' September 27,1990. He was recognized by the Modem Woodmen of America Camp 15413 for his outstanding service to the community June 30, 1991.

Dr. Gibbons retired from his private medical practice, July 1, 1988. However, he was called out of retirement by J.B. Howe, executive director of the Rural Health Consortium and joined the Rogersville Medical Clinic on Feb. 5, 1991 to fill in for Dr. Josie Marcelo while she served in Operation Desert Storm. He last retired in December 1993.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rogersville since he first came to Rogersville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Edmond and Ruby Lavina Everett Gibbons; infant sister, Fern Lavinia Gibbons; his first wife of 11 years, Eula "Mae" Mullins Gibbons of Haysi, Va.; son-in-law, Jerry Helton; brothers-in-law, Tommy Cane, Donatd Price, Bill Chandler, Aubrey Fuller and Donald Crawford.

Surviving is his wife of 42 years, Carolyn Davis Gibbons, of the home; a son, William Patrick Gibbons and wife "Sasha" Alexandra S.; and three daughters, Sandra A. Kelley and husband, George, Martha B. Kaczmarek and husband Bob, and Mary G.Turner; two grandchildren, Matthew Black and Bethanna A. McCormick and husband Ray; three step grandchildren, Illya Igororvich Gryngauz, Ben Kelley and Erika K. Myers; two great grandchildren, Noah McCormick and Tabetha McCormick; three step great grandchildren, Brandon and Connie Kelley, and Iasiah Myers, all of Huntsville, Ala.; two brothers, Raymond Royce Gibbons, Ft. Forth, Tex. and Glen Arlon Gibbons and wife Lucille, of Chula Vista, Calif. and his faithful companion, his Boston Terrier, "Maggie," given to him by Jeffrey and Amanda Gunter.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Colboch-Price Funeral Home.

Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Colboch-Price Chapel with Rev. Robert Riley officiating, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Rogersville.

Music will be provided by Justin Nelson, Music director at First Baptist Church of Rogersville.

The Hawkins County Color Guard and the Tennessee Army National Guard will conduct military graveside honors 11 a.m. Monday in Highland Cemetery.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church TV ministry.

Pennington Gap, Va. - Eckel Gibson , 89, Pennington Gap, Va., died on Monday (Dec. 25, 2006) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Province Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday from the Sanctuary of Province Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, Va.

Hester Mae "Granny" Housewright Derrick Gibson

KINGSPORT - Hester Mae "Granny" Housewright Derrick Gibson, 88, a resident of Sunbridge Brookhaven Health Care Center, and a former resident of Route 3, Gate City, Va., went to be with Jesus at 5:50 p.m. Monday (Sept. 18, 2000) at the center.

A native of Scott County, Va., she had resided there her entire life until moving to Kingsport three years ago. She was a daughter of the late William and Easter Fields Housewright.

Mrs. Gibson was a housekeeper.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Grady Derrick; her second husband, A.G. Gibson; four brothers; and three sisters.

Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Nannie Rhoton Dean and Joe Dean, Mary Morrison Vaughn and Farley Vaughn, and Dorothy Walters, all of Kingsport, and Dora and Johnny Estepp, Gate City; three sons and daughters-in-law, William "Robert" and Sylvia Derrick, Church Hill, Thomas and Roma Derrick, and Elizah and Sue Derrick, both of Kingsport; one sister, Allie Coeburn, Kingsport; 31 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown, and at other hours at the residence of a son, Thomas Derrick, 1868 Forest View Drive, Kingsport, or the residence of a daughter, Dora Estepp, Route 619, Ft. Blackmore Road, Gate City, Va.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. G.W. White officiating.

Burial will follow in the Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

James Harvey Gibson

Gate City, Va.—Funeral services for James Harvey Gibson, 82, have been set for 2 p. m. Wednesday afternoon at the Grassy Creek Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Point Truth Cemetery, with the Rev. Ray Hodges, the Rev. Walter Glover and the Rev. Robert Dingus officiating.

Mr. Gibson is survived by a son, W. M. Gibson of Gainesville, Mo.; a daughter, Mrs. S. C. Wampler of Nickelsville and a brother, F. M. Gibson of Bristol. His wife, Emma Nichols Gibson died a few years ago.

Phyllis (Cox) Gibson

CHURCH HILL - Phyllis C. Gibson, 66, of 102 Laurel Run Park Road, passed away Friday (June 22, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Gibson was a lifelong resident of Hawkins and Sullivan Counties. She was a member of McPheeters Bend Baptist Church and attended McFerrin United Methodist Church.

She was a graduate of East Tennessee State University where she received a B.S. and master's degree in education. She attended Union College in Barbourville, Ky., receiving a degree in administration.

She retired from the Hawkins County School System with 38 years of service and was assistant principal of Volunteer High School. She was active in the CASA Organization and the ladies auxiliary of the Goshen Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reese Gibson; and parents, G.K. Cox and Ida Bell Cox Hobbs.

Survivors include one aunt, Maxie Neely, Weber City, Va.; cousins, Reginald Neely, Weber City, Va., Margaret Matherly, Kingsport, John Neely, Gray, and Susie Gilreath, Kingsport; stepbrother, Jim Hobbs, Georgia; stepsister, Annette Hobbs, Maryland; chosen sister, Jannie Lane, Kingsport; and special friends.

Calling hours are from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home, Church Hill.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Church Hill Memory Gardens with the Rev. Gale Flanary officiating.

Pallbearers will be Timmy Simpson, Lynn Ward, Bill Lyons, Tim Simpson, Gary Burchfield, Keith Gibson and John Keith Gibson.

Mildred Aleen (Pierson) Morrell Gillenwater

KINGSPORT — Aleen Pierson Gillenwater, 91, passed away on Saturday (Nov. 15, 2008) at Johnson City Medical Center.
Aleen was born on Nov. 11, 1917 to the late Hiram Pierson and Carrie Peters Pierson in the Daniel Boone community of Scott County, Virginia. She moved to Kingsport in 1952. She lived there until the year 2000 when she moved to Jonesborough to be with her daughter, Teresa Susan Gillenwater Deakins. She was employed by Rogers Insurance Agency, retiring in 1981. She was a member of Litz Manor Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralston H. Gillenwater; a brother, Glen Pierson; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Gillenwater.
She is survived by her son, David Gillenwater of Jonesborough; her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Susan and John Deakins of Jonesborough; her brother Bill Pierson and wife, Jo of Kingsport; her grandchildren, Suzanne Quaintance and husband, Jay of Knoxville and John Deakins, III of Nashville; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Quaintance of Knoxville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 7 p.m. in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Bill Steele officiating.
Entombment services will immediately follow the chapel service in Oak Hill Mausoleum No. III at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Mrs. Gillenwater to Litz Manor Baptist Church Building Fund at 1383 Dewey Avenue, Kingsport, 37664.

Newt Gilliam

ROGERSVILLE - Newt Gilliam, 94, of Rogersville, went to be with the Lord Friday (June 16, 2006) at Wellmont Hawkins County Hospital.

He was born in Hancock County and was a member of Wallen's Bend Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Gilliam; parents, George and Effie Gilliam; brother, Leonard Gilliam; and sister, Mossie Lane.

He is survived by an only son, Waymon Gilliam and wife, Eunice Manis Gilliam of Morristown; one sister, Parolee Perry of Eidson; and some nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Colboch-Price Funeral Home.

Services will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. J.C. Lawson officiating.

Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery.

Clayton Rex Gilreath

Clayton Rex Gilreath , 71, 389 W. Jackson St., Gate City, Va., died Monday (Nov. 2, 1998) at his residence. A lifelong resident of Scott County, Va., he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a retired lab technician at the Tennessee Eastman Co. He attended Meade Chapel Church and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Belle Arrington Gilreath , Oct. 17, 1992; parents, William and Florence Wolfe Gilreath ; and one brother, George Washington Gilreath .

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Marty Ward, Kingsport; son and daughter-in-law, Rex Anthony and Joyce Meade Gilreath , Nickelsville, Va.; five grandchildren, Alicia Gilreath and Trevor Gilreath , Derek Ward, Darian Ward and Adrianna Ward; two sisters, Elsie Gilreath and Edith Griffin, both of Gate City, Va.; several nieces and nephews.

Sherri Elaine (Burke) Goolsby

GAINESVILLE, GA - Sherri Elaine (Burke) Goolsby, 46, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, in Gainesville.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28,2001, at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, 3000 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, Georgia.

Mrs. Goolsby was born January 15, 1955, in Sullivan County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Jerald Rudolph Burke, and the late Virginia Roosevelt Burke. "Rudy" Burke retired after a long career at the Atlanta Journal as its Copy Editor. H,e was also known for two books that he wrote.

At a young age, Mrs. Goolsby moved to Decatur. After graduating from Decatur High School in 1973, she attended Emory at Oxford for two years. She then earned both her undergraduate and masters degrees from the University of Georgia. During her career, Mrs. Gooisby worked as a schoolteacher, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and a counselor.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth E. Goolsby, Jr., M.D.; two sons, Kenneth E. Goolsby, III and Andrew M. Goolsby of Gainesville; her father, Jerald R. Burke, formerly of Decatur, who now resides in Columbus; two sisters, Vera N. Duffey, and her husband, Richard, of Phenix City, AI., Yolanda D. Townsend, and her husband, Bruce, of Kingsport, Tenn.; four nieces, Darla Lowe (Duncan) of Columbus, Rhonda Edwards (David) of Phenix City, AI., Tonya Wilson (Steve) of Knoxville, Tenn., Teresa Hall (Roger) of Kingsport, Tenn.; and several great nieces and nephews.

Byrl T. Graham Jr.

DUFFIELD, Va. — Byrl T. Graham Jr., 88, formerly of Kingsport, died Thursday (Nov. 6, 2008) at Lee Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Graham was born on Oct. 9, 1920 and a resident of Kingston Center, Duffield, Va. He was a farmer and loved to travel. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Byrl Thomas Graham, Sr. and Willie Kate Johnson Graham; brother, Daniel Eugene Graham; sister, Mary Joyce Goodson; and a infant sister.
He is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Ann Graham of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tennessee with the American Legion Post #3/265 and the Tennessee National Guard. Pallbearers will be the Color Guard. The family wishes to express a special thank you to caregiver Jamie Deirth and the staff and residence of Kingston Center. Betty Sue (Head) Gray

CHURCH HILL - Betty Sue Gray, 63, of 213 Carolyn Avenue, passed away Saturday (Sept. 10, 2005) after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Gray was a lifelong resident of Sullivan and Hawkins Counties and was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Church Hill. She was a retired employee of Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph E. and Hattie Hobbs Head.

She is survived by her husband, Fred Gray, Church Hill; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Scott and Judy Gray, Wilksboro, N.C., and Mark Lee and Stormi Gray, Knoxville; two grandsons, Micah and Noah Gray; one granddaughter, Ashleigh Gray; one brother, Ronnie Wayne Head, Kingsport; and special cousin, Tommy Harren.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home, Church Hill.

Services will be conducted today at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bud Beverly officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Liberty Hill Cemetery.

GATE CITY, Va. — Emily Charlotte Greear, 68, died Thursday (Nov. 20, 2008) at her residence in Gate City, Va.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.T. Greear; two sons, Roger Shupe and Marty Lee G r e e a r.
She is survived by her daughters, Gladys Castleberry, Trenton, Ga., Molly Castle, Norton, Va., and Tess Richards, Coeburn, Va.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; step-children, Sandra Hensley, Teresa Holt, Jenny Hill and Emmett G r e e a r.
Private committal services at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton will be conducted at a later date.

Ethan Jason Green

GATE CITY, Va. — Ethan Jason Green was born and arrived in Heaven on Sunday (Nov. 9, 2008). Ethan is the infant son of Jason and Amanda Green of Gate City, Va.
He is the grandson of Wayne and Theresa Stallard, Ft. Blackmore, Va., and Charles and Debra Green of Gate City, Va. He is also survived by two aunts and uncles, Jessica and Jody Perry, Mount Carmel and Christie and Marcus Smith, Gate City, Va.; two cousins, Anastasia and Christian Smith.
A private memorial service will be conducted for the family.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful nurses and doctors at Wellmont Hospital and Hol- ston Valley Specialty OB/GYN who cared for Ethan and his parents.

Lester Greene

KINGSPORT — Lester Greene, 67, of Kingsport, died unexpectedly Friday (Nov. 21, 2008) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Greene was a life-time resident of Kingsport and was a fun loving person who was loved by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, L.C. and Bessie Greene; his wife, Mary Greene; and two sisters, Carol Waggoner and June Hromadka.
Surviving are three sisters, Ruth Bolden of Kingsport, Dorothy Rogers of Kingsport,
and Phyllis Byrd and husband, Bill of Johnson City; five brothers, J. Frank Greene, Don Greene and wife, Virginia, John Atlee Greene and wife, Linda, all of Kingsport, Clyde Greene of London, Ky., and Jerry Greene and wife, Edna of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Josephine (Stacy) Lane Greene

KINGSPORT – Mary Greene, 67, Kingsport, passed away Thursday (Jan. 1, 2004) after an extended illness.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Cora and Charlie Stacy; a granddaughter, Samantha Robin Lane Olterman; and her brother, Ralph Stacy.

Surviving are her husband, Lester Greene; four sons, Charles Stacy and wife, Elizabeth, Sanford Lane, Rogersville, Pat Lane and wife, Diane, Kingsport, Scott Lane, Kingsport; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Rev. J. T. Greear

FT. BLACKMORE, Va. - Rev. J.T. Greear, born Feb. 22, 1925, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday (July 15, 2003) at his residence in Ft. Blackmore.

Rev. Greear was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II with the First Infantry and received many medals including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He had retired from Barnwell Coal Company as a heavy equipment operator.

Rev. Greear was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dungannon, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Floyd Greear and Nancy Ellen Estep Greear; son, Marty Lee Greear.

Born in Scott County, Va., on Aug. 25, 1916, she was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Cora Gillenwater Quillen; and her husband, Kilmer W. Greear.

He was a native of Scott County, Va. He was a retired safety engineer at Holston Defense and a navy veteran of World War II. He was a former member of Masonic Cattlet Lodge No. 35 and a member of Gate City United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Dougherty Greer (Feb. 28, 2000); one grandchild; and his parents, Robert R. and Clara Quillen Greer.

James Hubert "Sac" Guy

GATE CITY, Va. - James Hubert Guy "Sac", 75, Route 3, passed away Thursday morning (May 12, 2005) at his residence.

"Sac" grew up in West View, joined the United States Air Force at 17 and spent most of his adult life with his loving wife of almost 52 years in Michigan. He retired as a self-employed carpenter and moved back home, which he loved along with his family. May his soul rest in peace with the one he called God.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nettie Barker Guy; two sisters, Ruby Housewright and Hazel Holler.

Surviving are his wife, Garnie Boyd Guy; son, Mark A. Guy; his only grandson, David James Guy; sisters Eva Mae Cassidy, Bonnie Carroll, Barbara Wallen; his only brother, "the baby of the family" Preston Guy; many more nieces, nephews, cousins and family members also are left to mourn him. To have known him was to love him. He will be greatly missed.

Military graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tenn. The American Legion Hammond Post 3/Gate City 265 with the Rev. Joe Byrd will perform full military rites.

Those wishing to attend those services are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:55 p.m. Monday.

BLOUNTVILLE — Zeable B. Harr, 77, 1111 Harrtown Road, died Monday morning (Sept. 20, 1999) at Wexford House after a period of declining health.
Born in Scott County, Va., she was a daughter of the late William M. and Louie Jane Bishop Flanary. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 419.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Floyd A. Harr; a brother, Hagy Flanary; and a twin sister, Innis Sage.
Surviving are two sons and daughter-in-law, William Rick Harr and wife, Jerri, Blountville and Danny A. Roy Eugene Harris, Sr

KINGSPORT — Roy Eugene Harris, Sr., 86, of Kingsport, died Tuesday (Nov. 4, 2008) at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.

Mr. Harris was a Kingsport native and had lived in Sullivan County for most of his life.

He was the son of late Lee Roy and Ava Elizabeth Harris and was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Lenis Harris and Carson Harris.

Roy Eugene Harris enlisted in the U.S. Navy in October 1940. He received a rank of chief quarter master where he proudly served his country until his enlistment expired in October 1946, receiving an honorable discharge. He also received several awards including, American Campaign, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign, American Defense, Good Conduct, Navy Unit Commendation and World War II victory. He also served aboard the U.S.S. Pinto, a sea going tugboat during the Normandy invasion.

Survivors include his three children, Roy Eugene Harris, Jr., Hartley Harris and William Harris, all of Pennsylvania; a brother, Clarence Harris of Arizona; cousin, Elmer "DOC" Jones, of Kingsport; and four grandchildren.

Mr. Harris did not wish to have any services in his behalf.

KINGSPORT — Mildred Compton Hartsock, 81, of Kingsport went to her Heavenly Home Thursday (Nov. 27, 2008), at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Hartsock was a school teacher prior to her marriage to James and was a salesperson with Nettie Lee for 22 years. Mildred was a loving wife, dedicated mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister- in-law.
Preceding her in death were her father, mother, two sisters, and a niece.

KINGSPORT-- Betty Sue Hawkins Armstrong, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully at her home Sunday (Nov. 30, 2008).
She was retired from the Department of Human Services after 22 years of service.
She is survived by her daughters, Melinda Salyer and husband, Roger of Hiltons, Va. and Elizabeth Armstrong; her son, Robert Armstrong and wife, Armine of the Philippines; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

KINGSPORT- Daisy Margaret Head, 78, of Colonial Heights, went to be with the Lord Thursday morning (June 28, 2007) following an extended illness while surrounded by family at home.

Margaret had resided in Kingsport most of her life. She was a former employee of J. P. Stevens and then worked at Parks Belk.

She was of the Baptist faith. Margaret's life evolved around her family and grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her son, Richard "Ricky" Head; parents, Ormond and Thelma Holley; and a brother, Bryan Holley.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Head; three daughters, Evelyn Rafalowski and husband, Teddy, Brenda Owens and husband, Harold and Faye Payne and husband John; seven grandchildren, Julia Ann Rafalowski, Trey Rafalowski, Taylor Payne, Madison Payne, Kenny Trivitte, Kristy Radford, and Wendy Lovelace; seven sisters, Evelyn Collins, Barbara Willett, Juanita Slater, Betty Ann Holley, Allene Case, Jean Hagan, and Mable Hensley; one brother, James Holley; and several nieces and nephews.

Drucella Ann Head

KINGSPORT — Drucella Ann Head, of Stratford Road, went to be with the Lord at the age of 77 early Wednesday morning (Nov. 26, 2008) at Brookhaven Manor.
She lived her entire life in Kingsport and graduated from Sullivan High School. Drucella enjoyed later years working with her mother at the Flea Market.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Claude Head and Monie Lou Ramey Head; sisters, Lakie C. Head and Vivian H. Williamson; a nephew, Scottie G. Hensley; and brothers-in-law, Arnold B. Hensley and Tim Cruz.
Surviving are two sisters, Frances H. Hensley of Kingsport and Elva V. Cruz of Albuquerque, N.Mex.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Drucella’s request was no visitation or funeral. A short graveside service will be held by her nephew, Jerry Lynn Hensley at Oak Hill Memorial Park at 1 p.m. Friday.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Brookhaven Manor’s special caregivers, Macedonia Church for their prayers and visits and her friends. Also a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice of Kingsport. They have taken good care of her.

ROGERSVILLE — Loretta "Eula" Hungerford Head, 88, of Rogersville, died Friday (Nov. 7, 2008) at Signature Health Care after a extended illness.
She was a member of Rogersville Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Head; daughter, Lois Marie Head; parents, Thomas and Louise Wilson Hungerford; sister, Helen Price; and brother, Jimmy Hungerford.
Survivors include one son, Paul David Head of Rogersville, and wife, Kim of Krum Tex.; grandson, Colton Head of Krum, Tex.; sister, Lois "Beulah" Hungerford Helton of Rogersville.

KINGSPORT - Monie Lou Head, Stratford Road, was a born again Christian and went to be with the Lord at the age of 90 on Thursday (March 1, 2001).

Mrs. Head was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jessee C. Head; two daughters, Lakie Head and an infant daughter; her parents, Johnson and Victoria Ramey; two sisters, Maudella Ramey Falin and Leona Ramey; and two brothers, Kelly and Claude Ramey.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Arnold B. HILTONS, Va. - Rick Head, 55, Hiltons, Va., passed away Sunday (Aug. 20, 2006) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

He was employed at General Shale for 20-plus years as a truck driver and machinery operator.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ormond and Thelma Holley; and his paternal grandparents, Lee and Sarah Head.

KINGSPORT - Dallas "Joe" Henry, 70, Kingsport, went to be with Jesus in his heavenly home on Saturday (Jan. 13, 2007) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a lengthy illness with family friends at his side.

Joe was a loving dad and raised a strong family who loved him dearly. He worked as a caretaker for a local church. He enjoyed his family, fishing and most of his life's work was living for the Lord.

KINGSPORT - Rev. Eugene C. Henry, 74, went to be with the Lord on Monday (Aug. 12, 2002) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was born on Sept. 10, 1927 in Sullivan County where he had resided all of his life. He attended The Way Home Holiness Church.

Mr. Henry was a loving father, grandfather, and a devoted husband.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kyle and Myrtle Henry; one brother, Bill Henry.

KINGSPORT - William J. "Bill" Henry, 76, died Saturday (July 28, 2001) at Indian Path Medical Center.

He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and retired from the Sullivan County Board of Education. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy.

He was of the Holiness faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Kyle and Myrtle Henry.

Arnold B. Hensley

KINGSPORT - Arnold B. Hensley, 82, passed away Sunday (Aug. 20, 2006) at his residence.

Arnold had served as the Adult Sunday School Teacher and served on the deacon board at Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church for over 25 years and was an honorary deacon until his death.

He served in the Special Forces Army Corps of Engineers and Army Reserve during World War II and was a Combat veteran. He retired from the construction business.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Granville and Mittie Hensley; brothers, Sam, Robert and Henry Jr.; sisters, Betty Babb, Madge Hollenbeck, Vesta Wilson, Bethel Shelton, and Ruby Norton; son, Scottie G. Hensley; and an infant daughter.

Surviving are his wife of over 56 years, Frances Head Hensley; children, Jerry Hensley and wife Donna, Kingsport, Lakie Hensley, Johnson City, Sandra Nadeau, Kingsport, Lester Hensley and wife Melody, Fall Branch; grandchildren, Brandon Minton and wife Katrina, Angie Franklin and husband John, Nathan Hensley, Cory Nadeau and Carson Nadeau; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Andrew Franklin, Hunter and Cassandra Minton; sisters, Verna Norton and Sue Landers, both of Greeneville; special sister-in-law, Drucella Head, Kingsport; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

HILTONS, Va. - James B. Hensley, 78, went home to be with the Lord Friday (Jan. 11, 2002) at Wellmont Hospice House of Bristol.

A lifelong resident of Scott County, Va., he was retired from the Scott County School System after 36 years of service as a bus driver. He was also a retired farmer and attended Hilton Independent Church of God.

He was a devoted husband, father and papaw.

James H. Hensley, Jr.

KINGSPORT — James Hensley, Jr., 86, of Kingsport, died early Monday morning (Dec. 1, 2008) at his home.
A son of the late James and Ocie Hensley, he was born in Norton, Va., and lived in College Corner, Ohio, before coming to Kingsport at the age of 14. James served with the U.S. Marine Air Corps during World War II and retired from Tennessee Eastman Company following 44 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church, a member of Masonic Lodge #688, and was a Shriner.
Preceding him in death were three sisters, Sylvia Peters, Dorothy Hensley, Eula Hancock; and a brother, Paul Hensley.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Lena Stata Hensley of Kingsport; and a brother, Dean Hensley, also of Kingsport.

Elsie Ruth (McDavid) Herron

GATE CITY, Va. - Mrs. Elsie Ruth McDavid Herron, 72, entered into eternal rest Friday (June 29, 2001) at Wellmont Hospice in Bristol, Tenn. after a brief illness.

Born February 22, 1929 in Scott County, Va., she was the daughter of the late John Ingle and Lona Quillen McDavid.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Sue Kilbourne; and four brothers, John L. McDavid, C.A. McDavid, Ira McDavid and Lee McDavid.

Eckel and Elsie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 22, 2000. She was a devout Christian and dedicated pastor's wife. She was a loving wife, caring mother, and a wonderful mamaw. She regularly attended Tipton's Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Rev. Eckel E. Herron , Gate City; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Eddie Depew, Weber City, VA.; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Patsy Herron, Gate City; grandchildren, Jennifer Depew, Kenita Herron and Kevin Herron; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Claude Falin, Gate City; brother, Warren McDavid, Duffield, Va.; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Elmer Clayton Hill Sr.

GATE CITY, Va. - Elmer C. Hill Sr., 82, went to be with the Lord Saturday (Jan. 3, 2004) with his family by his side at the Brian Center in Weber City, Va.

He was born in Scott County, Va., on May 29, 1921, a son of the late Emory and Lucy Kerns Hill.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Debra Ann Hill; sisters, Margaret Hill Dorton, Mary Jane Hill Shupe, May Hill Herron and Estelle Hill; brothers, Millard, Hubert, Glen and Kyle Hill.

He retired from Mead Paper in June 1983 after 37 years of service. He served with the U.S. Army in the Battery "D" 115th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion in the 3rd Army regiment. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, American Theater Service Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Ribbon. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.

Surviving are his wife, Leona Quillin Hill, Gate City; one daughter, Dovie Gillenwater and husband Terry, Kingsport; two sons, E.C. Hill and wife Nelda, Gate City, Bobby Hill and wife Vicki, Church Hill; six grandchildren, Mark Gillenwater, Amy Pettigrew, Jessica Jones, Jennifer Gilbertson, Garin Hill and Trevor Hill; four great-grandchildren, Steven Gillenwater, Ashton Gilbertson, Brianna Jones and Blake Pettigrew; two sisters, Lillian Wells, Clinchport, Va., Lois Bowen, Kingsport; a host of nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va.

Lucy Mae (Jones) Hill

CLINCHPORT, Va. - Lucy Mae Jones Hill, 83, went to be with the Lord early Monday morning (June 7, 2004) at her residence.

She was a lifelong resident of Scott County, Va. (Rye Cove). Lucy was a member of Cox's Chapel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milo W. Hill in 1983; her parents, James Edward Jones and Bertha McNew Jones.

Surviving are her son, Milo Hill and wife Suzanne, Gate City, Va.; her granddaughter, Hannah Grace Hill; and also many, many special friends.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, Va. Friends may also call anytime at the son's home on Nickelsville Highway.

Shirley Ashe Chapman Hill

ROGERSVILLE — Shirley Hill, 64, of Rogersville, passed away Monday morning (Nov. 3, 2008) at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C.

She was retired from TRW, a member of East Rogersville Baptist Church, a life-time member of the Hawkins County Rescue Squad Crewettes, Hasson Chapter #179 O.E.S. and a former member of the Hawkins County Pink Ladies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arch R. and Belle Ashe.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Hill, of the home; son, Ric Chapman and wife, Susan, of Rogersville; daughter, Amy Dinsmore, of Rogersville; step-daughter, Chris Quillen and husband, Kevin, of Bristol; step-son, Cory Hill and wife, Catherine, of Rogersville; 12 grandchildren; special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, A.C. Hill and wife, Lori, Wilma Williams and husband, Dale and Wanda Hill.

John Harry Hincher

NORTON, Va. — John Harry Hincher, 81, passed away peacefully on Nov. 15, 2008, at the home of his son in Norton.
He was a member of the Norton United Methodist Church. He was a retired engineer from Verizon Communications and a member of the Pioneers Organization of Telephone Company Members. John served in the United States Navy during World War II and served four years in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. He was a past member of the Coeburn Kiwanis Club. He was an honorary member of the Norton Fire Department which he served as a volunteer for twenty years. He worked many years as a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America, Troup #60, for which he was awarded the Order of the Arrow.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur W. and Cora Flanary Hincher; wife of 54 years, Laura Jane Brummitte Hincher; sisters, Lillian, Beatrice and Lucille Hincher, Louise Hincher Fleenor, and Janie Hincher Cruey; brother, Allen Hincher; and a nephew, Jim Hincher.

NORTON, Va. - Laura Jane Brummitte Hincher, 71, went to be with the Lord on Saturday (July 2, 2005) at Norton Community Hospital.

Born Nov. 28, 1933 to the late William (Bill) Brummitte and Effie Sturgill Brummitte, she was of the Methodist faith. Laura was a former active member of both the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Norton Fire Department and the Norton Band Boosters Association.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, John H. Hincher; sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Cathy Hincher, Norton, Va., and Bill and Elaine Hincher of Bluefield, W.Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Randy Rigg of Wise, Va. Her mother, Effie S. Brummitte survives her, as well as grandchildren, Johnathan Hincher and his wife Kristen, Hendersonville, N.C., Christopher Hincher, Bluefield, W.Va., Ben Rigg, Wise, Va., Elizabeth Rigg, Wise, Va., and Katie Hincher, Bluefield, W.Va.

She was a retired nurse and former member of the Tacoma United Methodist Church.

MT. CARMEL - Stella "Willie" Elizabeth Adams Hite, born May 24, 1921, passed from this life Tuesday, (May 1, 2007), at the home of her daughter.

Although she attended Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church for many years, Stella was of the Baptist faith. She had lived in the Church Hill/Mount Carmel community for 57 years.

Preceding her in death was her husband, David Isaac Hite; a daughter, Margaret Louise; her father and mother, Wilbur Patton and Inza Bowens Adams; brothers, Billy Monroe and Floyd Adams; and sisters, Agnes Adams Fields, Berty Adams Mallory, Alice Adams McClain, Nanny Adams Thompson, and Rachel Adams Lawson.

Coy Lynn Hobbs

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. - Coy L. Hobbs, 59, of 9936 175th St., Chippewa Falls, Wis., town of Anson, died Monday (July 28, 2003) at his home with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.

He was born Sept. 28, 1943 in Kingsport to Eliza Het (Gardner) and Gladstone Washington Hobbs. In 1961, he graduated from high school in Baileyton, Tenn. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968, serving in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged, he moved to Antioch, Ill.

Coy married Farrell L. Vogler on Aug. 9, 1969 at Zion Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls. They lived in Kenosha, Wis., until moving to Chippewa Falls in 1972. He attended Chippewa Valley Technical College and received a degree in appliance service. He was employed for National Presto Industries for 13 years and then was employed for four years at Gordy's Hardware Hank as sporting goods buyer and floor manager. He returned to National Presto Industries in 1997, where he was presently employed.

He was a faithful member of Hope United Methodist Church in Eau Claire, Wis. He was a shooting enthusiast, enjoying reloading shells and hunting. He also loved photography.

Coy was a loving and faithful husband, father, brother and friend. He fought a good fight and won the race and is now in glory in heaven.

He was preceded in death by his father and his father-in-law, Leonard Vogler.

Survivors include his wife, Farrell Hobbs of Chippewa Falls; three sons, Jay Lynn (Sheila) Hobbs of Gray, Timothy Coy (Carlen) Hobbs of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Tobias Michael (Cheryl) Hobbs of Apache Junction, Ariz.; his mother, Eliza Hobbs of Baileyton, Tenn.; a sister, Judy (Bobby) Greenlee of Lost Mountain, Tenn.; a brother, Ralph (Judy) Hobbs of Athens, Tenn.; his mother-in-law, Alice Vogler of Chippewa Falls; nieces; nephews; and friends.

Calling hours are from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday at Hope United Methodist Church in Eau Claire.

GREENEVILLE — Virgie Ena Wilcox Hobbs, 94, of Baileyton Main Street, Greeneville, died Saturday night (Nov. 22, 2008) at Laughlin Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
She was the widow of the late James Haskell Hobbs.
Survivors include her five children, J. Frank Hobbs, Linda Burns, Marilyn Brown, all of Baileyton, Joann Stanton of Greeneville, Kaye Woods of Rogersville; 10 precious grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister: Bonnie Flanary of Church Hill; several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT — Virgie Harris Hobbs, 95, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord early Monday morning, (Sept. 17, 2007), following a brief illness.

She was born in Nickelsville, Va., but had resided in Kingsport since 1952. Virgie was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend and will be missed by all that knew her.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Glenn Hobbs, in 1977; a daughter, Thelma Jean Henderson, in 1998; a grandson, Dwayne Shelton, in 1996; her parents, Floyd "F.C." and Eliza Vicars Harris; two brothers, Leonard and Larlin Harris; and several nieces and nephews.

Surviving are one daughter, Louise Hobbs Jernigan, Kingsport; one son, Ernest Hobbs and wife, Clarice, Blountville; seven grandchildren, Tammy and Eric Henard, Michael and Natalie Hobbs, Christy Jennings, Carey and Mark Skeens, Paula and Todd Broughton, Andy and Jenny Hobbs and Sonya and Mark McCrary; 15 great grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Paul Henderson; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Beulah Johnson.

Gate City, Va.—(Spl.)—Mrs. Julia Hommell, 76, died at her home at Gate City, Route 2, Wednesday morning. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Goldie Tipton and Miss Maggie Hommell of Gate City, Farley, Huey, Walter, and Henry Hommell of Kingsport, Mrs. Lona Moody of Harlan, Ky., Mrs. Lillie Armstrong, Crab Orchard, W. Va., Mrs. Eva Cannoy of Gibson City, Ill., and two step-children, Alfred Hommell of Norton, Va., and Mrs. Rosa Dickson of Chuckey, Tenn. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her husband, W. B. Hommell, died six years ago.

The body was taken to the home of a daughter, Mrs. Goldie Tipton, Thursday afternoon. Huff Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

KINGSPORT - Charles D. Hood, 78, of 713 Rector Dr., went to be with the Lord Friday evening (April 9, 2004) at the Wexford House after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Dunbar, Va., and had been a resident of the Kingsport area for the past 62 years. Charles was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the Stone Drive Eagles #3141.

Mr Hood retired from AFG Industries in 1988 after many years of service.

PINEY FLATS - Charles Leo Horne, 66, of Piney Flats, entered into rest Thursday (Aug. 10, 2006) at his home.

He was born April 16, 1940 in Scott County, Va., and was the son of the late Hurston F. and Cora C. Sanders Horne. He has made his home in the Piney Flats area for the past 32 years. Mr. Horne was a former employee of the City of Kingsport.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his son, Randy Lee Horne.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Sylvia Jean Johnson Horne; daughters, Barbara Meade and husband Ed and Bobbie Jo Goddard and husband Joseph; daughter-in-law, Dr. Jill Talley-Horne; grandchildren who were precious to him: Danielle, Josh, Courtney, Savannah, Alexis, Charles Ross and Thomas; sister, Annie Giddeon; brothers, Bennie Horne and wife Pat and Robert Horne; and several nieces and nephews.

MOUNT CARMEL - Armenda Ramey Housewright, 78, went to be with the Lord early Friday morning (Sept. 10, 2004) at her residence.

She was born in Scott County, Va. (Pink Hill) and had lived in this area since she was 23-years-old. She retired from Holston Valley Medical Center with over 32 years of service.

She was a member of Liberty Chapel Baptist Church (Mount Carmel).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Housewright; her parents, Orbin Ramey and Captotoe Thacker Ramey; seven brothers, Virgil, Ercel, Doyle, Kelly, H.P., Elmer and Jessee; and one sister, Edna Thacker.

Gary Edward Housewright

MOUNT CARMEL — Gary Edward Housewright, 52, of Mount Carmel, went to be with his heavenly Father early Friday morning (Nov. 7, 2008) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was a lifelong resident of Mount Carmel. Gary was a mechanic with Trent’s Auto for over 20 years. He was a born again Christian and attended Bethesda Independent Church in Dryden, Va. Gary loved Nascar and especially spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Armenda Ramey Housewright; his special mother-in-law, Eva Sage.

Gary Housewright is survived by his loving and caring wife of 35 years, Lena Kay Sage Housewright; his son, Travis Housewright (Gray); his sisters, Patsy Way (Mount Carmel), Kathy Blevins and her husband, Don (Church Hill); a brother, Tim Housewright (Surgoinsville); his special niece, Renee Nolan; along with additional nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Sunday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home of Church Hill from 5 to 7 p.m., or friends may also call anytime at the residence.

A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Greg Carmony and the Rev. James Adams officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted on Monday at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mechanics of Trent’s Auto, Jim Trent, and Wayne Trent.

Glenia Joyce (Keith) Howington

NICKELSVILLE, Va. — Glenia Joyce Howington, 65, Nickelsville, Va., entered into rest Wednesday (April 30, 2008) at Indian Path Medical Center.

Mrs. Howington was born in Scott County, Va. on April 15, 1943 and was the daughter of the late Hula Keith.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Lee Howington ; and a daughter, Mildred Ann Howington .

Surviving are her daughter, Patsy Tolle, Gate City, Va.; sons, Rick Howington , Gate City, Va., Lester Howington , Nickelsville, Va. and Buddy Wayne Howington and fiancée, Amber, Gate City, Va.; grandchildren, Shana Day, Joyce Tolle, Holly Tolle, Heather Tolle, Stephen Howington and Destiny Howington ; great-grandchildren, Triston Tolle, Dalton Tolle, Jaylen Jones, Aubury Jones and Zane Tolle; sister, Betty Sue Smith; brother, Bobby Keith and wife, Phyllis, Nickelsville, Va.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Gate City Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be conducted at 5 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Charlie Taylor officiating.

NICKELSVILLE, Va. — Lester Alan Howington, 42, Nickelsville, Va., passed away on Wednesday (Nov. 12, 2008) at his residence.
Born in Sullivan County on July 14, 1966, he was son of the late Buddy Lee and Glenia Keith Howington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Ann Howington.
Survivors include his sister, Patsy Tolle, Gate City, Va.; brothers, Rick Howington
and fiancee’, Renda Keith, Gate City, Va. and Buddy Wayne Howington and fiancee’, Amber, Gate City, Va.; nieces and nephews, Shana Day, Joyce Tolle, Holly Tolle, Heather Tolle, Stephen Howington and Destiny Howington; and greatnieces and great-nephews, Triston Tolle, Dalton Tolle, Jaylen Jones, Aubrey Jones and Zane Payton.

Nannie Kate (Page) Houseright

MORRISTOWN — Nannie Kate Page Houseright, 69, of Morristown, went home to be with the Lord early Sunday morning (April 13, 2008) at Sunbridge Nursing Home in Maynardville, Tenn. following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Speers Ferry, Va. and had lived in Morristown for the past 34 years. Nannie retired from Universal Bedroom in Morristown as an inspector. Mrs. Houseright loved to quilt and especially working with flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Gertrude Fields Page along with her three brothers.

Nannie Houseright is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Clarence A. Houseright; her daughter, Cynthia Houseright Rogers and her husband, Andy (Treadway, Tenn.); a son, Richard Houseright and his wife, Penny (Dandridge); four grandchildren, Andy Houseright, Amanda Barrett, Jeffery Lope and Jill Cope; her sisters, Linda Smith and her husband, Scott (Yuma, Va.), Sue Truman and her husband, Everett (Dayton, Ohio); a brother, Mike Page (Gate City, Va.); along with several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will begin at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home of Church Hill or friends may call anytime at the residence in Morristown.

A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating.

J. B. Huffman

BLOUNTVILLE — J.B. Huffman, 79, of Blountville, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Monday (Nov. 3, 2008) at his residence after an extended illness, with his family and friends at his bedside.

He was born Dec. 10, 1928 in Sullivan County to the late William H. and Fannie B. Huffman. He lived in Ohio for 14 years, before coming back home to Tennessee in August 1983. He retired from H&L Croush Construction. He and his wife own and operate Kays Restaurant on Hwy. 11-W since June 1986. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Belinda Hadden and Tova Richardson; step-daughter, Leetta Sielger; sister, Ruth Hughes; brothers, Tom Huffman, Joes Huffman, Jim Huffman and Noah Huffman.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kay Huffman; one daughter, Sheila Huffman, Blountville; four sons, Clifford Huffman and wife, Hazel, Allanson, Mich., Paul Huffman and wife, Annette, Holly, Mich., Robert Huffman and wife, Tiffany, Rockwood, Tenn., Harold Huffman and wife, Mary, Rockwood, Tenn.; one step-son, Donald Browder and wife, Tina, Toledo, Ohio; four sisters, Mary Qualls and husband, Bill, and Martha Fleenor, all of Kingsport, Margaret Hayes and husband, Adam, Blountville, Grace Dishner and husband, Pete, Sevierville, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

James E. "Jim" Huffman

KINGSPORT - James E. Huffman, 83, 2182 Steadman Street, went to be with the Lord at 7 a.m. Monday (April 15, 2002) following a brief illness.

James was born in Sullivan County where he had lived his entire life.

He was an employee of Tennessee Eastman Company, retiring due to poor health. He was a member of Charity Chapel in Orebank.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Edith Byrd Huffman in 1978; a daughter, Karen Lavern Huffman; parents, William H. and Fannie B. Huffman; and three brothers, Tom Huffman, Noah Huffman and Joe Huffman.

Surviving are one daughter, Joyce Strong and husband Steve, Kingsport; two sons, Norman Huffman and wife Sharon, Loudon, Tenn., and Noah Huffman, Kingsport; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mary Qualls, Ruth Hughes, Margaret Hayes, Martha Fleenor and Grace Dishner, all of Kingsport; one brother, J.B. Huffman, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Charity Chapel with Pastor Mike Owens, Pastor Billy Denton and Pastor Avery Lynch officiating.

Born in McIntyre, Ga., Charles served in the U, S, Navy for over 18 years. He retired from Dade County School System, where he taught for years.
