COEBURN - Charles W. Easterling, 83, died Thursday afternoon [12/30/1971] at his home in Suffolk, Va. He had been a lifelong resident of Coeburn before moving to Suffolk three years ago to live near his daughter.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Nora Addington Easterling; daughter, Mrs. Faye Lee of Suffolk, and granddaughter.

The Scott County Funeral Home of Weber City is in charge of funeral arrangements.

(Charles and Nora (Addington) Easterling were born in Scott Co. Records show that Charles was a son of Sarah Lunana Easterling Addington and grandson of Peter and Martha (Kilgore) Easterling. He was in the 1900 Scott Co census, Johnson District.)

KINGSPORT - Debbie Lynn Easterling, 47, of Independence Drive, departed this life Sunday morning ( Aug. 12, 2001 ) at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City .

She was a native of McDowell , Ky. , and was a receptionist for George Lee Agency with Nationwide Insurance.

She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Morrison City and was a member of the church auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her stepfather, James H. Lambert.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny R. Burial will follow in East Lawn Cemetery , Blountville.

KINGSPORT — Della Corder Easterling, 53, of Kingsport, passed away Tuesday (June 16, 2009) at her home.

Della was born in Norton, Va., graduating from Twin Springs High School and had lived in Kingsport since 1983. She was a homemaker. Della attended Higher Ground Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Martha Sluss Corder.

She is survived by her husband, James Easterling of the home; one son, Jason Easterling and wife, Heather of Kingsport; two grandchildren, Kaiden and Lukas Easterling of Kingsport; two sisters, Mrs. David (Carol) Goad of Kingsport and Mrs. Bobby (Faye) Trivett of Nickelsville, Va.; one brother, Albert and Judy Corder of Dungannon, Va.; sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Newman (Donna) Lee of Kingsport; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Linda Easterling of Limestone; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Higher Ground Baptist Church, Kingsport. Family and friends may also call anytime at the residence.

A funeral service will follow at the church with Pastor Phil Hoskins and the Rev. Shannon Salyer officiating.

Music will be provided by the Higher Ground Church Choir.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Temple Hill Cemetery in Castlewood, Va.

Kenneth O. Easterling, 87, of Barberton Ohio went home to be with the Lord Friday, March 16, 2012 at the Hospice Care Center in Copley.

Kenny was born in Scott County, Virginia on October 19, 1924 to David and Lula Easterling.

He was a WW II Veteran serving in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. Kenny loved to golf especially with his grandsons and attended Norton Baptist Church. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and always enjoyed spending time with his family.

“To know Kenny was to love him.”

Kenny was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Sue Bassett; eight brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Lou; son-in-law, Bruce Bassett; daughter, Patricia (Larry) Cooper; grandchildren, Bruce (Shelli) Bassett, Jr., Russell (Kimberlee) Bassett, Jodi (Timothy W.) Wagner, Brian (Barbie) Jaggers, Kim (Bobby) Bartoe, Kevin (Vicky) Cooper and Keith (Barb) Cooper; 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and loving friends.

The family would like to extend special thanks to VNS Hospice for all their love and care for Kenny and our family.

NICKELSVILLE, Va. — Mary Bell Easterling, 90, of Nickelsville, Va., July 16, 2009, has gone home to be with the Lord.

Born in Scott County , Va. on March 7, 1919 , she was the daughter of the late Melvin Lonnie Harris and Nannie M. Addington Harris.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Curtis David Easterling; sons, Jimmy Kilgore and Carl David Easterling; son-in-law, Herman Dotson; and granddaughter, Dinah Ray Taylor.

WEBER CITY, Va. — Robert L. Easterling, 94, of Weber City, Va., died early Friday morning (May 22, 2009) at his residence.

He had spent the majority of his life in Weber City. Robert retired from Daugherty Brothers Chevrolet.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years in April, Bernice Charlene Easterling; his parents, James Easterling, Sr. and Sally Newman Easterling; his brothers, Fred Easterling and James Easterling.

Robert Easterling is survived by his daughters, Phyllis Jennings and Stephen Barnes (Kingsport), Sallie Cookenour and her husband, Paul (Knoxville, Tenn.); five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great- granddaughter; sisters, Hester Adams, of Lebanon, Va., and Christina Easterling of Norton, Va.; along with several nieces and nephews. A special thank-you goes out to Misty Venett and the entire staff of Wellmont Hospice.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday at Scott County Funeral Home from 1 to 3 p.m. or friends may also call anytime at the residence.

Funeral services for Miss Mae Easterling, 23, who died at 3:30 a.m., Thursday [4/19/1951] at the Holston Valley Community Hospital, will be held Saturday at 2 p m., at the Belvue Christian Church with the Rev. S. K. Widner and the Rev. B. M. Ketchersid officiating. Burial will be in City Cemetery.

Miss Easterling was born and spent her early years near Duncannon, Va., but had lived in Kingsport at 2017 Bristol Highway since 1942.

She had been employed in the yarn department at Tennessee Eastman Company for the past four years. She was a member of the Highland Park Methodist Church.

The body will be removed from the Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home to the residence at 11 a.m. Friday.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Dora Easterling Anderson, step-father, Lloyd B. Anderson, a sister, Mrs. Opal Pardue, a step-sister, Miss Jean Anderson, a niece, Brenda Calloway and a nephew, Jimmie Joe Pruitt.

Wyoma Emogene Ketron Eaton, 83, of Kingsport, was born on August 9, 1927 to the late Willie and Nida Leonard Ketron passed away at 1:45 am on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.

A kind loving wife, mother, and grandmother who truly believed with God all things are possible. She was born in East Carters Valley, but spent the last 50 years in Kingsport. She was a member of Hermon United Methodist Church, which she attended until she became physically unable.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Martin Eaton, whom she loved dearly; two brothers, Jack Ketron and Thurl Ketron.

Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Judy Eaton Colley and husband, Richard; grandson, Justin Colley; granddaughter, Caitlin Colley, all of Kingsport; sister and brother in law, Herlene Jennings and husband, Robert of Gate City, VA; sisters in law, Suella Ketron, of Atlanta, GA, Janice Ketron McNutt and Dolly Eaton both of Kingsport, Nell Eaton of Church Hill; aunt, Caldonia Quillen of Kingsport; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 - 8 pm on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, February 4, 2011 at Hermon United Methodist Church, East Carters Valley with Rev. Joe Barber and Rev. Jackie Cook, officiating. Mrs. Eaton will lie in state for one hour prior to the service.

NICKELSVILLE, Va. - Irene C. Ecker, 81, entered into rest Saturday ( May 12, 2001 ) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center .

Mrs. Ecker was born May 11, 1920, in Dallas County, Ark. She was the daughter of the late Frank H. and Mary Murphye Brewster Crary.

She was a homemaker, and was of the Southern Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Rhoton.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Ecker, Nickelsville; two sons and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Jeanette Ecker, Nickelsville, and Glenn Ecker, Ft. Worth, Tex.; grandchildren, Karianne Counts and Craig Ecker; three great-grandchildren, Casey, Austin and Dalton Ecker.

Charles Raymond Edens, Sr. 63 of Duffield, died suddenly on Sunday, September 7, 2014 from a massive heart attack.

Raymond was born on July 10, 1951 to parents, Hiram Edens, Jr. and Georgia Kinkead Edens who preceded him in death. He made many friends through his love of coon-hunting with his black and tan dogs and often shared many long conversations with his coon-hunting buddies. After retiring from Eastman in 2000, following 32 years of service, Raymond loved listening to bluegrass music and working his farms. He had a big heart and caring nature, and loved his wife, son and grandchildren and his family and friends. All mourn their loss and will miss him. Raymond was saved at Grit Hill Church at an early age.

He is survived by the love of his life and coon-hunting buddy of 20 years, his wife, Renee Edens; son, Raymond Edens, Jr. and wife Tess of Sevierville, TN; grandchildren, Rachel and Jonathan Edens of Sevierville; step-grandchild, Asa Bell; sisters, Sandy McDavid of Church Hill and Patricia Bennett and husband Tom of Auburn, AL; brother, Gary Edens and wife Hope of Seneca, SC; aunt, Anne Edens of Duffield; several nieces and friends; special coon-hunting buddy, Kyle Chase.

Moe was born in Scott County, Va., on Oct. 28, 1951, the son of Visey Collins Edens and the late Rufus Tucker Edens.

Hester Locella Edwards, age 78, of Longview, Texas, passed away Saturday, J an. 29, 2005 at her residence.

Edwards was born Dec. 15, 1926 in Scott County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Clarence H. and Carrie Selma Reed Pierson.

She was a longtime resident of Longview , Texas , a member of Trinity Episcopal church and the Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother.

Her survivors include her daughters, Cathy Heard, Longview, Texas, and Deborah Crawford, Kilgore, Texas; a son, Dan Edwards, Kilgore, Texas; grandchildren, Michael Boswell, Casey Crawford, Cassandra Edwards and Matthew Edwards; and great-grandchildren, Amber Boswell and Conor Crawford.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the Welch Funeral & Memorial Center Garden Court in Longview , Texas , with the Rev. Tony Pierce officiating.

Interment will follow at Memory Park Cemetery .

Mauretania (Tania) Egan, 86, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord Saturday afternoon, June 23, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was a faithful member of Bloomingdale Baptist Church, and a retired employee of J C Penney having worked in the Kingsport, Chattanooga, Augusta, GA, and Greenwood, SC stores.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Crawford and Ova Hackler; brothers, Leo H. Hackler and Duard N. Hackler.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lyle Egan of Kingsport; two sisters, Mozelle H. Carter of Duffield, Lotus C. Butler and husband George of Duffield; two brothers, Max Hackler and wife Joan of Kingsport; Rev. Howell Hackler and wife Christine of Loveland, OH; along with several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Bloomingdale Baptist Church.

M. Gregg (Egor) Egan, 41, Kingsport, died Friday evening (Aug. 21, 1998) at Holston Valley Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

A native and lifelong resident of Kingsport, he attended Lynn View High School. He served with the U.S. Army during Desert Storm as a staff sergeant and was an active member of the Tennessee National Guard Unit HHT 2/278th ACR. He was an avid CB'er. He was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nell Starnes Egan , in 1994; his maternal grandparents, Bartley and Emma Taylor Starnes; and his paternal grandparents, Charles J. and Dovie Stone Egan Sr.

Surviving are his father, Charles J. Egan Jr., Kingsport; four sisters, Mrs. Larry (Connie) Marsh, Mrs. John D. HYDEN, Ky. — Robert Freddie "Bobby" Egan was born on April 13, 1941 and departed this life on April 30, 2009 at the age of 68 years, 0 months and 17 days.

He was born at Ft. Blackmore, Va., and was the son of the late Charlie Egan and the late Eva Rutherford. By occupation, he was a heavy equipment mechanic in the coal mines. Robert was an avid fisherman.

He was affiliated with the Pentecostal church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mae Egan and Ethel Egan; one brother, Howard Maggard; an uncle and aunt that raised him as their own child, George and Verna Egan.

He leaves surviving the following relatives, mother of children, Myrtle Etta Egan of Bledsoe, Ky.; two daughters, Sherry Brock and Freddie of Bledsoe, Ky., and Margie Stacey and Gary of Bledsoe, Ky.; one son, George Jeffrey Egan and Sarah of Cumberland, Ky.; two brothers, Gene Egan and Ira of Greeneville and Ralph Egan and Juanita of Hiltons, Va.; one sister, Faye Snipes of Greeneville; nine grandchildren, Tosha Caldwell and Tim, Keisha Brock, Blake Whitehead, Freddie Brian Egan, Heavenly Egan, Emily Egan, Shylena Egan, Naomi Egan and Janie Egan; one great-grandchild, Timothy Isaiah Caldwell. Mr. Egan was born in Sullivan County, TN on November 23, 1984 to Delmar and Martha Wolfenbarger Egan.

Mr. Egan was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandparents, Scott and Mable Egan; Maternal Grand Father, Fred Wolfenbarger.

In addition to his parents , he is survived by his Grandmother, Elois Wolfenbarger, Rye Cove, VA; Son, Eric Egan, Bristol, TN; Brother, Cody Egan, Bristol, VA; along with several aunts and uncles.

KINGSPORT - Gertrude Ramey Egan , 83, Bloomingdale Community, was called home Saturday (Jan. 22, 2000).

She was born in Scott County, Va., she had lived in Kingsport since 1917. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Egan had been a Free Will Baptist since age 17.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Egan , in September 1976; two brothers; one sister; and one great grandson.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Charles Boyer, Kingsport; four grandsons, John Neeley, Dwain Neeley, Gene Neeley, and Roger Neeley; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine Rogers, Ft. Worth, Texas, Margie Frye, Kingsport.

KNOXVILLE — Arthur “Len” Elam, 76, of Knoxville, formerly of Kingsport, was born on Oct 23, 1932 and passed away on July 22, 2009 in Knoxville after a brief illness.

Len grew up in Kingsport where he graduated from Sullivan High School . He attended Emory and Henry College where he was a member of the basketball team. Len proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he attained the rank of sergeant. After military service, Len entered the trucking industry where he remained throughout his lifetime. For the last 40 years, he served as safety director then vice-president of operations for Colonial Freight Systems in Knoxville . He remained part of the Colonial family until his passing.

Len was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Matilee Elam ; a granddaughter, Savannah Reed; nephew, Terry Bowyer; brother-in-law, Bob Boyer; and the mother of his children, Phyllis Elam.

Survivors include his loving wife of many years, Jennifer Warwick Elam; two sons, David Elam and fiancee, Amy Jones and Tod Elam and wife, Vickie; two daughters, Cindy Holt and fiancee, J.R. Mrs. Elam was born in Russell County, Va. on October 13, 1922, a daughter of the late William Edward and Rose Jessee Helbert.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

Surviving Mrs. Elam is her husband, M. C. Elam , Nickelsville; two daughters, Mrs. John (Kathy) Salyer, Castlewood, Va. and Mrs. Darrell (Karen) Britt, Nickelsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Carol Elam , Nickelsville; two granddaughters. KINGSPORT - Faye Virginia Calhoun Elam, 84, went to be with the Lord on Monday (Jan. 16, 2006) at her residence.

Born in Scott County, Va., she was saved on Oct. 23, 1943 at Pleasant View Baptist Church where she remained a member until her death. She had worked at Tennessee Eastman Company during World War II and retired from World Book Encyclopedia after over 40 years of service. She was a volunteer with Holston Valley Auxiliary for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey H. Elam; parents, Charlie E. and Maude Davis Calhoun; sister, Edna M. Lane McConnell; and brother, Paul E. Calhoun.

She is survived by her daughters, Fonda Elam and husband Phillip Kelley, Kingsport, Janet Elam Jenkins and husband David K., Dandridge, Tenn.; granddaughters, Amanda Powell, Rachel Kelley and husband Travis Christian; grandsons, Jeremiah Jenkins, Bryan Kelley, Chad Jenkins and wife Joy; great-grandchildren, Dusty Kelley, P.J. ELDRIDGE, Harry O. (Cotton) 89, of Enon, died at 10:04 PM on Sunday April 11, 2010 in the Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born November 29, 1920 in St. Charles, Virginia the eldest son of the late Emory and Ethel (Johnston) Eldridge. He worked for 32 years as a water plant operator at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Fairborn, Ohio, retiring in 1976. He was an active member of Eagles Aerie #397 and the Union Club of Springfield.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Mary Ann (Hupman) Eldridge; six children Jeffrey (Elizabeth) of Beavercreek, OH; Mary Jo (Spink) Patterson, of Columbus, OH; Randall (Gayalene), of Springfield, OH; Mark Spink, of Plain City, OH; John (Vicki) Spink, of Springfield, OH; and Bonnie (Spink) and Jay Clucus, of Plain City, OH; two brothers Hubert and Sherl and eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Howard, Richard, Harold and Robert and his first wife Edith (Wolford).

WEBER CITY , Va. — Debra Diane Elliott, 55, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday ( May 1, 2011 ), in Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport .

A native of Norton, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Sturgill and Naomi Ruth (Bailey) Sturgill Ross. Debra was an amazing lady with so much devotion and love as a wife, a mother, a friend and was a hard worker. She lived a full blessed life; enjoying the beach, gardening, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Greg Elliott; daughter, Rebecca Diane Elliott; uncle, Virgil Leo Bailey; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Born in Scott County, Va., on Feb. 4, 1925, he was a son of the late Dallas Harmey (D.H) Elliott and Bessie Mae Frazier Elliott.

He retired from the former Meade Corporation. He attended the Good Shepherd Baptist Church.

Mr. Elliott served in the Navy during World War II and in Korea.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ina Gillenwater Elliott in 2003.

Edward Elliott, 77, of Homosassa died Monday, May 27, 1996 at Seven Rivers Community Hospital in Crystal Rivers. He was born in Gates City, Va., and came to Homosassa 19 years ago from East Detroit, Mich. Mr. Elliott was a machinist for Keystone Metal Molding Company in East Detroit, Mich. He was Pentecostal.

ELLIOTT, Gus G., Age 81 of Dayton, passed away Sunday February 22, 2009 in Dallas, Texas. Gus was born February 9, 1928 in Martin Kentucky to Lona and Vernon Elliott. He grew up in Martin Kentucky and moved to Dayton after graduating high school and serving in the Marine Corps. Gus was a tool and die maker. He apprenticed at American Gauge and worked for Continental Can, Tipp City Tool, and retired from Adena Tool in 1993. Preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Marietta, a son, Marty, and two brothers Olin, and Wiley. Survived by his son, Gus Jr., daughter-in-law, Randi, three grandchildren: Gus III, Aaron and Lindsey; half-brother Pat Hayes and half-sister Barbara Petersen. Gate City, VA. – Hassie Irene Elliott, 89, of the Midway community passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2014.

She was born Aug. 9, 1925 in Scott County VA, and was the daughter of the late Sol F. and Lucy Strong. Hassie graduated from Midway High School and resided in Scott County all her life. She was a caring homemaker who took such great pride in her cooking and baking for her family and neighbors.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family dearly. Hassie was of the Methodist faith and attended Midway Memorial United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Homer Jack Elliott, son Doyle Wayne Elliott, sister Mary Quillen and brothers Eugene Strong, Roy Strong and H.F. Strong.

NICKELSVILLE, Va. - Howard Kenneth Elliott, 82, entered into rest with the Lord Monday ( May 5, 2003 ) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center .

Born on Feb. 19, 1921 in Scott County, Va., he was a son of the late Emory and Virgie Elliott. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He took great pride in his grandchildren, and was very involved in their lives.

He was an active member of the Scott County Republican Party and was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Nickelsville.

He graduated from Nickelsville High School and Hiwassee College , where he received his degree in teaching but found his love in farming and his cattle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Mack Elliott; and his brothers, Charles Robert Elliott, Glenn Elliott and Emory P. Elliott Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Reba R. Elliott; son, SFC Pat Elliott and his wife Rachel; grandchildren, Autumn Lane Elliott and Nicholas Patton Elliott of Gate City, Va.; brothers, James H. Elliott and wife Pauline of Nickelsville, Bruce B. Elliott and wife Brenda of Rogersville; sisters, Lois Hardy of Bristol, Va., Marion Bundy and husband Steve of Lebanon, Va., Frances Gilmer and husband Charlie of Nickelsville, and Katherine Salyer and husband Wayne of Nickelsville.

GATE CITY, Va. - Ina Cleo Gillenwater Elliott, 78, went to be with the Lord Sunday (Nov. 9, 2003) at her residence after a lengthy illness.

Born in Scott County, Va., on Sept. 11, 1925, she was the daughter of the late E.L. and Lucy Davidson Gillenwater.

She was a loving wife and mother and a member of Bible Way Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mallie Vermillion and Zola Peters.

Marietta Layne Elliott, Age 76 of Dayton, OH passed away October 11, 2008 in Dallas, TX. Marietta was born November 30, 1931 in Martin, KY to Eva and Porter Layne, the oldest of 5 children. She moved to Dayton in 1950 and later attended comptometer school. She was hired at NCR in 1959, where she worked 33 years in the payroll department, retiring in 1992. In retirement she enjoyed knitting and cooking. Preceded in death by a son, Marty Elliott, and two sisters, Georgia "Pat" Naylor and Judy Love. Mrs. Delia M. Elliott, 89, of 1505 Linville St., died in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home in Elizabethton at 4 p.m. Wednesday [ Dec 2, 1964 ] after an illness of several years.

Born in Wise County , Va. , she had lived in Kingsport 45 years. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and of the Womens Society of Christian Service there, and a character member of Royal Neighbors of America . Her husband, J. Monroe Elliott, died 32 years ago.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Doyle Stevens, 1505 Linville St.; son, Cascal C. Elliott, Tampa, Fla; sister, Mrs. Mona McConnell, Kingsport; brother, Samuel J. Frazier, Kingsport; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday in the First Methodist Church . Rev. Kyle Tomlinson and Rev. Harold Harris will

Born in Nora, Va., she was a lifelong resident of Scott County, Va. She was a member of Dungannon United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alva C. Elliott and Myrtle Massie Elliott; and two brothers, Marion Elliott and Alva Elliott Jr.

Surviving are three sisters, Estelle Elliott, Blountville, Doris Elliott Dean, Atlanta, Ga., and Nancy Elliott Harr, Kingsport; one brother, Ross A. Elliott, Dungannon, Va.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.rn. Wednesday at Dungannon United Methodist Church.

GATE CITY, Va. - Mildred Irene Elliott, 93, went to be with the Lord at 2:30 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 3, 2007) while at her residence after a long illness.

She was born June 13, 1916 and was the daughter of the late Frank and Monnie Salling Quillen. She was a lifelong resident of Scott County, Va. She was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Gate City, Va.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Earl Carmine (E. C.) Elliott; sisters, Mrs. Hansford (Myrtle Bell) McConnell and Mrs. Roy (Frankie Lee) Jane.

She is survived by her son, Jerry M. Elliott and wife, Freda Carol of Gate City, Va.; two grandchildren, Marty Elliott and wife, Kellieann and Shannon Elliott and fiancé, Shirley Beck; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home and other time at the home of her son, Route 2, Gate City, Va.

The funeral will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral chapel with Rev. Ed Clevenger officiating.

The committal service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Holston View Cemetery. It is requested that family and friends meet at the cemetery by 10:55 a.m. for those services.

GATE CITY , Va. — Reba Ruth Elliott entered into rest on March 25, 2008 at home with her family and friends by her side.

Mrs. Reba was born April 1, 1923 , in Lee County, Va., to the late Frank and Grace McElroy. She was an exceptional woman who had many, many friends and was loved by all. Reba was a retired school teacher after 30 years of service in the Scott County School System. Teaching was her passion. She loved life, people, shopping, traveling, playing bingo and cards. She was the life of the party always making everyone smile.

Reba was a member of the Retired Teachers of Scott County, Nickelsville Senior Citizens and attended First Baptist Church of Nickelsville for over 60 years. Recently, she attended Community Fellowship Baptist Church of Gate City. She loved both her families and enjoyed Sunday school so much.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard K. Elliott; son, Kenneth Mack Elliott; parents, Frank and Grace McElroy; two brothers, Burl and G.F.; one sister, Virginia Johnston.

She is survived by her son, Pat Elliott and wife, Rachel; two grandchildren, Autumn and Nic Elliott (who were the apples of her eye); one sister, Rosa Lee Hamm of Dayton , Ohio ; several nieces and nephews; three very special friends, Jo Ann Sluss, Betty Jo Fletcher and Sue Smith; and a host of many other friends.

GATE CITY, Va. — Rev. Ronald Wayne Elliott, 61, departed this earthly life to enter into eternal life with his Lord and his Savior Jesus Christ on April 23, 2009.

Ron retired from the Eastman Chemical Company and had owned a gunsmith business. Ron had many hobbies and past times and took pride in all he did. However, he felt his greatest achievement was in accepting Christ as his Savior and answering God’s call to the ministry. He served several years as pulpit supply for Clinch Valley Baptist Association; pastor of Dungannon First Baptist Church and co-teacher with the English as a Second Language class for Hispanics at Nickelsville First Baptist Church. Ron loved to share God’s word and witness to everyone with whom he came in contact. He had a great love for God’s children.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Denver and Ina Elliott; father-in-law, Carroll McCoy; sister-in-law, Mary Elliott; and brother-in-law, Allen Spivey.

Ron leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Carolyn McCoy Elliott and a brother, Dan Elliott, both of Gate City, Va.; mother-in-law, June McCoy; sisters-in-law, Susan Kilgore and spouse, Dan, Gate City, Va. and Debra Spivey, Elon, N.C.; brothers-in-law, Dan McCoy and spouse, Cindy, Roanoke, Va., and Jim McCoy and spouse, Shannon, Kingsport; along with several nieces and nephews.

MOUNT CARMEL — Donald Curtis Ellis, 77, of Mount Carmel, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday (June 13, 2009) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center unexpectedly.

He was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County. He served with the United States Army overseas in Frankfurt, Germany. He attended Tri-State College in Agnola, Ind. Curtis retired from H.T. Spoden Consulting Engineers after 35 years of service. He was a certified Browning Archery Service Technician. Mr. Ellis was a member of the Holston Valley Sportsman Club and the Kingsport Archery Club. Donald was a professional photographer and was an avid outdoorsman and an avid birdwatcher. Mr. Ellis was a former member of Ketron United Methodist Church and became an active and faithful member of Grange Hall United Methodist Church where he taught the adult men’s Sunday school class. His family and his church by far was the most important thing in his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Nina Hackler Ellis; a brother, Raymond Lynn Ellis; his brothers-in-law, Earl Bland and Jack Howard Carpenter; a sister-in-law, Mary Wolfe.

MOUNT CARMEL - Raymond Lynn Ellis, 65, entered eternal life at 10:15 p.m. Friday (Jan. 3, 2003) at Indian Path Medical Center.

Born in Hawkins County, he was a resident of the area all of his life.

Raymond was a member of Ketron Memorial United Methodist Church. He retired from Rockwell Automation Dodge, Rogersville, after 21 years of service as a machinist. He enjoyed farming, yard work, and family history and served as the family genealogist.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Eugene Ellis; and father-in-law, Walter Brickey.

CLINCHPORT - Miss Olive Anna Engel, 80, died unexpectedly in her sleep Friday night [2/23/1973] at her residence here.

A graduate of MacMurray College in Johnsonville, Ill., with a degree in music, she came to Clinchport in 1957 and taught one year at Rye Cove

High School before retirement. She had been a private music teacher until her death.

She was a member of Clinchport United Methodist Church, which she served as pianist.

Her nearest surviving relatives are nieces, Dr. Olive Engel, Kettering, Ohio, and Miss Ida Mae Engel, West Palm Beach, Fla.

Scott County Funeral Home of Weber City is in charge of funeral arrangements.

GRAFTON, Ohio - Fred J. Enix, 62, Grafton, Ohio, died Fri­day (April 15, 1994) at his home after a long illness.

Born in Ft. Blackmore, Va., he had been a resident of Eaton Township for 26 years. He was a retired employee of General Mo­tors, Brook Park Division where he worked 30 years, retiring in 1988 as a press metal operator. He was a member of Elyria Moose Lodge No. 778.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Harvey and Bertha Enix; a brother, Edward Enis; and a sister, Grace Enix.

She was born in Scott County, Va. and was retired from Rental Uniform Co. having worked for 30 years. She was a Methodist and attended Mt. Pleasant Church.

He was born in the Midway Community of Scott County, Va., and lived there most of his early life. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, who served in the European Theatre. Employed by the Blue Ridge Glass Corp., for many years before moving to Newport News in 1956, Mr. Enix was employed locally by both Payne Air Corp., and Art Newsome, Inc.

Mr. Enix is survived by his wife of 62 years, Clarice Elliott Enix; two daughters, Jennifer Wheeler (Brian) and Sandra Baroody (Brandon); three grandsons and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two older sisters, several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Mary Victoria Enix, 81, died at 9:15 p.m. Sunday [ May 31, 1959 ] at Holston Valley Community Hospital after a lingering illness.

She was born and raised in Scott County , Va. , and lived in Gate City until the death of her husband, J. H. Enix in 1952, when she moved to Kingsport and made her home until her death.

She was a member of the McConnell Memorial Methodist Church .

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Lois Palmer and Mrs. Aliene Taylor, both of Kingsport, and Mrs. Betty Jackson of Lavonia, Mich.; two sons, John and Lloyd Enix of Detroit, Mich.; one son, Kemp Enix of Detroit, preceded her in death in 1948; one sister, Mrs. Hester Reed of Gate City; two brothers, Cleve McClellan of Gate City and James McClellan of Kingsport; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

The body will remain at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home until the hour of services.  Friends will be received at the funeral home and at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Aliene Taylor, 1110 West Sullivan Street , and at the home of Mrs. Lois Palmer, Sullivan Gardens .

The service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hamlett-Dobson Chapel.

The Rev. Dan Kelly will be in charge of the service.  Burial will be in the Holston View Cemetery .

KINGSPORT - Blanche Fraley Epperson , 90, 1536 Carolina Ave., went to be with the Lord Monday ( Oct. 25, 1999 ) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.

She lived in Scott County practically all of her life coming to Kingsport 10 years ago. Mrs. Epperson is remembered for her years of faithful support and service at Wolfe's Community Church and attended Sunnyside Baptist Church after moving to Kingsport .

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Pollard Epperson ; four sisters, Etta Neeley, Julie Sproles, Dora Davis and Charmie Snapp; and two brothers, Leonard Fraley and Bascom Fraley.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Charles Brooks, Kingsport; granddaughter and her husband, Deb and Glen Moody, Kingsport; grandson and his wife, Bill and Angie Brooks, Church Hill; two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Melody Moody; and one sister, Nannie Hash, Independence, Va.

Pearl Epperson, 84, Kingsport, passed away on Monday, August 6^th [2012] at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Born in Ft. Blackmore, VA, she was a graduate of Sullivan High School. Pearl was very active in the churches she attended. Her work in Girl Scouts was also important; she was awarded the highest honor for volunteers. She courageously stepped forward in the 60's and took a leadership role in integrating Girl Scout day camps in Chattanooga. Pearl was accomplished in all forms of needlework. She was active in the Ceramics Class at the Kingsport Senior Citizens Center. She was a loving mother and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 60 years, Mack Epperson Jr.; parents, W. T. and Phinetta [Beard] Needham; and sister-in-law, Joan Gilmore.

Weber City, Virginia - Betty Jean Ervin, age 77, of Weber City, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 5, 2013.

Betty was born and resided in Scott County, Virginia her entire life. She retired from teaching after 30 plus years and felt extremely blessed to have been a part of so many children's lives. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and friend to all who knew her.

Preceding her in death are her parents, T.M. and Lauda Darnell; infant sister, Mary Margaret Darnell and one brother, Charles T. Darnell.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 51 years, Bernie Ervin; one daughter, Kristi Ervin; two sisters, Elsie Davidson and Ada Ruth Shupe and husband Sam; brother, Harold L. Darnell; sister-in-law, Frauke Darnell; special friend, Della McMurray; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

GATE CITY, Va. — Bobby Ralph Ervin, 68, went to be with the Lord on Friday (Jan. 23, 2009) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Born in Scott County, Va., on Aug. 5, 1940, he was of the Pentecostal faith and attended Faith Bible Tabernacle Church. He enjoyed singing in church and fellowship with his church family. Everybody at church called him their candy man.

He worked at Scott County Lumber Company for 16 years.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Monnie Musick Ervin and father, James Wrightly Ervin; step mother, Fannie Ervin; sister, Ruth Qualls; brothers, Dan Ervin and Howard Ervin.

GATE CITY — Charles Edward "Charlie Edgar" Ervin, 88, of Route 1, Manville, following an extended period of declining health, entered into rest, surrounded by his family, Friday (Nov. 7, 2008).

Charlie was born on Jan. 11, 1920 in Scott County, Va. He worked at the Kingsport Glass Plant and later owned and operated Ervin's Service Station for 27 years. After retirement from the service station, Charlie was able to enjoy his love of farming, fishing, walking with his long-time companion "Fiesty," being with family, and visiting friends and neighbors. He was a member of Alley's Chapel Church and until his failing health he attended faithfully.

He was preceeded in death by his loving wife of 52 years in 1997, Frances Marie (Queen) Ervin; his parents, Andy and Alba Penley Ervin; brothers and sisters, James Wrightly Ervin, Lorne Ervin, Olene McNew, Hulda Williams, Sarah Head, Alice Bellamy, Glad Ervin; and many dear friends and extended family loved ones.

Surviving are his daughter Charlene and husband, Ron Brickey whom he thought of as a son, Kingsport; his sons, Kenneth Ervin and wife, Audrey, Weber City, Va. and Harland Ervin and wife, Rosa Lee, Weber City, Va.; grandchildren, Josh Ervin, April Ervin, Beth Shepard and husband, Andrew, Timmy Hensley and wife, Tammy; and five great-grandchildren.
