BIOGRAPHY

DEATH OF MR. EDWARD [sic] LOVING
Charlottesville Chronicle Friday, April 14, 1882
This gentleman, who is well known to many in our community as a member
of the firm of Taliaferro & Loving, of Richmond, died in that city on
Wednesday last of malarial fever. His remains were brought to Charlottesville
yesterday and buried in Maplewood Cemetery. Mr. Loving married a daughter of
the late Robert Poor [sic].

Edwin Lunsford Loving was the son of Henry Marshall & Sarah Ann Luck Loving.
They were married in Botetourt County in 1842. Henry was born in Nelson County
on 5/11/1811. He was the son of Lunsford Lomax Loving and Margaret Noel Hawkins.
Sarah Ann Luck was born in Botetourt County about 1824. According to an
on line genealogy Henry and Sarah had
the following children:
Alma Sidney -- b 1843 married Pumphrey Pollard Seay
     Nathan Phillip -- b. 1847 d. 1898
     Edwin Lunsford -- b. 1849 d. 1882
     Corina Ann -- b. 1851
     John Thompson -- b. 1852
     Albert Gallatin -- b. 1854
     Sallie Waller -- b. 1856 d. abt 1928
     William Govan -- b. 1858
     James Marion -- b. 1862
     Fannie O. -- b. 1864 She married Daniel Mitchell
     Margaret Louise -- b. 1868
     Lucas Powell -- b. 1870 d. 1872

I found Henry in the 1850 Amherst, Eastern District census on pg 93 and
dtd Sept 29th. Children listed at that time are: Alma Age 6, Henry Age 3 and
Edwin Age 1. Henry's real estate value is listed as $8,000.

Edwin, his parents and siblings appear in the 1870 census for Amherst County VA,
Temperance Township. Henry's occupation is "Farmer" and Edwin and his brothers are
listed as "Farm Hands."

Edwin married Julia Poore, daughter of Robert H. Poore of Fluvanna and Janetta
Magruder Poore. Julia's father died at Gettysburg 4/3/1863. He was a major
in 14th VA Regiment, Armistead's Brigade, Pickett's Division. Janetta was the
daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Bankhead Magruder, and sister of Allan B. Magruder
the owner of this family section.

Edwin, his wife Julia Poore and infant son, Julian, appear in the Henrico County census
for 1880--in fact TWICE.

Loving Edward L. Age 31 Comm. Merchant
Loving Julia B. Age 23 Keeps House
Loving Julian Age 7M Son
[The surrounding visits are also Clerks or Bookkeeppers, leading me
to believe this is a business district. The ages for everyone are
correct but the "head of household" is listed as Edward and not Edwin.]

Henrico County, Richmond City, District 84
10 June 1880 Location: East Leigh [Street?]
Visit 749/399
Loving E. L. Age 29 Clerk in Store
Loving J. B. Age 22 Keeping House
Loving J. B. Infant Daughter[?]
Poore Robie Age 20 Sister in Law
[illegible] Sarah Age 33 Servant
[The ages for Edwin and Julia are incorrect and infant
J. B. is Julian--a male.]

Infant Julian is buried at Maplewood, date of death is concealed by a tree trunk encasing
the stone. According to an on-line genealogy Edwin and Julia had another child: Fairfax, who
lived to adulthood and married "Mr. Fuller of New Jersey." If the information is factual,
Fairfax would have been born after the 1880 census.
