MRS. MARTHA A. SLATE.

To THE CHURCH AT STATE LINE, Dear Brethren: Having been appointed by your body to write the obituary of sister Martha A. Slate, I will make the feeble attempt.

Sister Slate was the daughter of Green and Martha Hall, She was born in Stokes Co., N. C., April 11.1848; was married to Mr. A. J. Slate, Feb, 7, 1867; united with the Church at State Line, Saturday before the 3'd Sunday in Sept., 1898; and departed this life, Feb. 10. 1905.

She died very suddenly. Being as well as usual a few minutes before her death, the cause of which was supposed to be heart failure. Her stay on this earth was 57 years, 7 months and 29 days. She has left to mourn her loss, a devoted husband. twelve children, four boys and eight, girls, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was an honest. industrious and devoted wife, and a loving mother. She was a faithful and consistent member of our church, always filling her seat; but her seat is now made vacant, and we miss her so much.

Mr. Slate, let me say to you, I know your loss is great, grievous to be borne, but she was only loaned to you, and God has seen fit to call her home, where we believe she is swimming  in that ocean of love that he has prepared for them that love and fear him. And now Mr. Slate, I earnestly hope when God calls you from earth that you may be prepared to meet her in that heavenly home. And now, dear children, remember your mother's counsel, and try to follow the good example which she set before you during her life: and. when death overtakes you, O may you all be prepared to meet her and be a family united in heaven.

"My dearest Martha, thou hast left me, And thy loss I deeply feel;

But it is God that has bereft me, He can all my sorrows heal.

Yet again I hope to meet thee, When the day of Life is fled;

And. in heaven, I hope to greet thee, Where no farewell tear is shed."
