The Floyd County Historical Society is requesting
information regarding Floyd County cemeteries.
Genevieve Starkey who is spearheading this project is a member of our society and works on this project. She has had assistance from members and
citizens in the county as well. We
thank all of you who have sent information regarding the cemeteries and invite
you to continue to do so. Please
include the name of the cemetery, location, surnames of persons buried there
and any other information you may have, however, we will accept those with
incomplete information. Please include
a contact name and phone number for information of each cemetery.
As always, when we visit cemeteries, we are very respectful
of the owner’s property remembering to close gates when entering or leaving the
area and we know you will also. By
practicing these rules, we will be able to gather more information regarding
old cemeteries and earn the respect of the landowners as well.
Our society is trying to reach out to Floyd natives who
live in other places. If you would like
to be on our mailing list to learn about activities planned for 2007, please
send your name and address to:

We have some of our historical prints still
available. Three different prints 11 x
14 are available for $20 each including postage and handling. Enclosed with each print is a brief
history. Profits from the sale of
prints will be used to help develop a museum at the Ridgemont-Williams
House, which was a former hospital and private residence. Please specify the print you prefer. The prints are:
1. 1956
view of Buffalo Mountain
2. Main
Street Floyd, circa 1920
3. The
Hotel Brame, circa 1912
Please send a check or money order to our address printed
directly above on this page.
Another fundraiser we are very excited about is our
calendar for 2008. It is at the printer
and will be ready for sale at the Harvest Festival on September 15. We will have a table set up at the Country
Store in Floyd. Hope to see you
there! The calendar will be a light
tan color with brown print. Each month
will have a picture depicting scenes in Floyd County. Holidays, birthdays, and historical events will be marked each
month as well. We know our residents
will want one and we hope our friends
who live in other places will want them for keepsakes and to share with
others. Our folks have worked hard on
this project in order to get it ready for the festival. Special thanks to Kathleen Ingoldsby for
putting her graphic design skills to work in this project. Proceeds from the sale of these calendars
will be used to help develop a museum at the Ridgemont-Williams House.
