Deed from John Colquett
To Norton Goodman, 1797
          Cumberland County Virginia

This Indenture made this twenty second day of July one Thousand Seven hundred Ninety Seven between , John Colquett and Elizabeth his wife of the county of Cumberland of the one part and Norton Goodman of Powhatan County of the other part, witnesseth , that the said John Colquett & Elizabeth his wife for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred pounds to them in hand paid by the said Norton Goodman the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargain’d & sold and by these presents do grant bargain & sell unto the said Norton Goodman his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land lying & being in the county of Cumberland containing by estimation four hundred Acres more or less and bounded by the lands of Jacob Golden which was formerly John Archers, Silley Chesser’s, Joseph Call and dec’d Garrob Ellison, Anthony Mullins, which was purchased of Arch’ Cury’s Estate, and Peyton Guthery; together with the premises thereunto belonging or in wise appertaining to the only use and behoff of him the said Norton Goodman his heirs and assigns forever, and the said John Colquett for himself and his heirs doth covenant and agree to and with the S Norton Goodman that he shall and will warrant and forever defend the S’d tract or parcel of land against the claim and demand of himself and his heirs & against all and every person or persons whatsoever , In witness whereof the said John Colquett & Elizabeth his wife have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above written.
