CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA.  Will Book 5, pgs 68, 69 and 70.

 

Will C. Elliott.  In the name of God amen I Cornelius Elliott of Chesterfield County, being in perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God, knowing all men must necessarily die, do make this my last will and testament as follows, after the payment of my just debts, funeral expenses etc.  I give to my loving wife Hannah during her natural life the land I now live on and after her decease to be sold and the money arising therefrom equally divided amongst such of my children as are then living---

 

Item,    I give to my son John Elliott one negroe named Phillip to him his heirs and assigns forever ---

 

Item,    I give and bequeath to my son James Elliott one negroe man named Charles, to him his Heirs and assigns forever ---

 

Item,    I give to my son William Elliott one male Slave named Daniel to him his Heirs and assigns forever ---

 

Item,    I give and bequeath to my son Cornelius Elliott one male slave named Davy to him his Heirs and assigns forever, also I leave him a Horse of the value of twenty five pounds ---

 

Item,    I give and bequeath to my Daughter Mary Elliott one female slave named Judy, for her, her Heirs of her body lawfully begotten forever ---

 

Item,    I give and bequeath to my Daughter Wealthy Anne Elliott a female slave named

Jenny to her, her Heirs of her body legitimately begotten forever ---

 

Item,    I give and bequeath to my Daughter Hannah Fourqueron one negroe girl named Mimey, to her, her Heirs of her body legitimately begotten forever ---

 

Item,    I give and bequeath to my Daughter Sarah Elliott a female slave named Phillis, to her, her Heirs of her body legitimately begotten forever ---

 

Item,    I give and bequeath to my Daughter Eliz Elliott a female slave named Fanny, to her, her Heirs of her body lawfully begotten forever  Now if any of the above bequeathed Negroes should die before taken in possession by the owner I desire it to be made good out of the remainder of the Negroes ---

 

Item,    I give and bequeath to each of my Children a Cow and Calf, a Bed and furniture that have not (already crossed out) received them already from me to them their Heirs and assigns forever ---

 

Item,    I give or lend to my loving wife during her life the residue of my Estate what wheresoever and whatsoever and after her death to be equally divided amongst Her Children to them their Heirs and assigns forever ---

 

I desire there should be no appraisement of my Estate.  Lastly I nominate and appoint my beloved wife Hannah Elliott, John Elliott my son, James Elliott, Wm Elliott, and Cornelius Elliott my Executrix and Executors of my Last Will and Testament.  I utterly revoke and annul all my previous wills and make this my Last Will and Testament.  In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 27th day of February one thousand seven hundred and ninety-seven.
