State of
On
this 5th day of April 1833 personally appeared in open Court before the Judges
of said Court it being a Court of Record, now sitting, Thomas Arbuckle a
resident of the said County of Washington and State of Indiana aged 86 years
who being first duly sworn according to Law, doth on his oath make the
following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress
passed June 7th 1832, That he entered the service of the United States under
the following named officers and served as herein stated, that he entered said
service at Bottetourt [sic: Botetourt] County in the State of Virginia, in the
year [blank] about the month of [blank] as a Lieutenant in a company of militia
commanded by Capt. George Givens, said company rendezvoused at Fincastle &
marched in pursuance of orders from Genl [Andrew] Lewis on an Expedition
against the Indians, to Big Island [sic: Long Island at present Kingsport TN]
on the waters of Holstein [sic: Holston] River, at which place the Indians were
routed on a battle that took place about 2 days before he arrived [the Battle
of Long Island Flats 20 July 1776] – this declarant remained at Big Island one
day, and was then discharged by Col. [Evan] Shelby – he states that he served
in said company as Lieutenant upon this expedition not less than fifteen days –
That about the month of April 1780 at Whitley’s
Station (Ky) [now in Lincoln County] he was drafted as a private into a militia
Company under Capt Bowles which company was attached to the Regiment under Col.
B. Logan [sic: Banjamin Logan], which served under the command of Genl. [George
Rogers] Clark – that he served as a private in this said Company during the
succeeding campaign which was not less according to his best recollection &
belief than six months –
In the fall of 1782 at the same place (Whitley’s
Station) he was again drafted as a private soldier, into the same company and
served under the same officers, during the campaign which followed. – his
services in this last campaign according to his best recollection and belief
was not less than six months –

of which he does not recollect) and there had another skirmish with the
Indians, after which he was ordered by Col Logan to Aston’s station, and placed
there with 19 others as a guard –
He states that he served in the Revolution, in the
manner, and in the Campaigns as above stated, not less than fifteen days as a
Lieutenant, and not less than one year as a private soldier.
He rec’d discharges at the times he left the service,
but they are lost. he states that he has no documentary evidence and that he
knows of no person whose testimony he can procure who can testify to his
service – He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity
except the present, and declares that his name is not on the Pension roll of
the agency of any State ~
