Pollard Cemetery

This marker for Shepherd Pollard was dedicated on Saturday November 17, 2007. Shepherd Pollard b.Feb. 1824 d.3 SEP 1904. Shepherd Pollard married in Bedford County, Va on 26 Aug 1850 to Henrietta Parker b.abt. 1832 d. 27 JUN 1857 d/o Caleb Donovan Parker & Sarah Brown Parker of Bedford County, Va. Shepherd & Henrietta appear on the 1850 Census in Bedford County. On the 1860, 1870, 1880 & 1900 census Shepherd Pollard is living in Botetourt County, Va. Shepherd Pollard enlisted as a private in the Confederate States Army May 20, 1861 at age of 36. Virginia 28th Infantry Regiment, Co. C. Promoted to Lieutenant 1st Class May 15, 1864 Wounded June 3, 1864 at Battle of Cold Harbor, VA., in the defense of Richmond. Never returned to duty.

1875 Tax record for Amsterdam Township, Botetourt Co. - Shepherd Pollard owned 240 acres of farmland 14 miles southwest of the courthouse. Value was $3,360, making his tax $16.80. This land is now part of the watershed and reservoir area of Carvin's Cove, water supply for the City of Roanoke, VA.
