James  Madison Coon,  born Sept. 24th 1813 in Jefferson
County, Kentucky, was the second son of a family of eight
children - seven boys and one girl - born to Michael Coon, Jr.
and Elizabeth (Kelly) Coon who were married on the 6th of April,

descendant of hardy German immigrant stock who came from the
upper Rhine River Valley to York County, Pennsylvania in 1738.
Michael's father, Michael Sr. and six of his brothers were
members of the "German Regiment" ("Pennsylvania DEUTSCH" not

of Kelly and was the daughter of George Kelly of Fincastle,
  Botetourt County, Virginia.
