ADAMS, BURRELL, LAYTON, LEIGHTON,
MARKHAM, SAUNDERS, SORRELL -
ISO informtion on additional information on parents of Lewis Edward
LEIGHTON, b:1845 as per 1860 census for Rockbridge Co. or
1846 as per 1870 census Botetourt Co. Other than the 1860
Rockbridge Co. census I have been unable to find any reference to
John LEIGHTON b: abt 1811 Married Elizabeth SAUNDERS
17 Mar 1828 or Rebecca ADAMS 17 Oct 1828. 1860 Census only
list wife as Eliza. Other children besides Lewis were William R. b:
1842 and John L. b: 1848. Lewis married Rachel Ann MARKHAM
b: 1837 she died in 1932 and is buried in Covington, Va. Their
Children were Otto Samuel b: 1873, Gertrude b: 1876, Alvin Rosco b:
1878 and my Grandfather John Ernest b: 1874. Any help will be
appreciated. A lady had sent me a record from a Rockbridge Co.
Death Register. There was a listing for the death of John
LAYTON. d: 21 Mar 1864 at age 53. My John was born in
1811. The time and place is right!! His parents were listed as
William and Nancy LAYTON. In the marriages I had there was
a William LEIGHTON married Nancy SORRELL 19 Mar 1812
.. Another Fit!! Then in the marriage record of William and Nancy
it gave Williams parents as James LAYTON. I also had a
marriage of James LEIGHTON to Ann BURRELL 25 Oct.
1786.. This last find confirmed that there was a name change
somewhere along the line. I kept drawing a blank looking for
LEIGHTON in various county and state records. My
gGrandfather John was LAYTON in the 1850 Census and John
LEIGHTON in the 1860 Census. What I need is confirmation on
the above. Dates and places fit fine but, I would like to have

STANLEY, WILLIAMS -
Lewis B WILLIAMS is shown in the 1850 Botetourt Co VA
census, with his wife Malinda W and 6 children. The oldest child is
Mary B. WILLIAMS, which I would like to have more info on.
Mary B. WILLIAMS married James Henry STANLEY in 1860.
Would appreciate any info about this family. Thanks.
