The Arnold Family Association of the South was founded by Hazel Arnold MacIvor in the late 1960s. The officers of the newly founded AFAS were Edwin A. Arnold, President; Hazel Arnold MacIvor, Treasurer, Historian-Genalogist; and Ann Arnold Hennings, Secretary. They, along with member Ted Brooke, pooled their Arnold research and published the first Newsletter on 1 August 1970. Membership in AFAS quickly grew, and many members submitted their family history and research for inclusion in the Newsletter. For the first five years, the Newsletters were published quarterly, and thereafter were published annually. Publication of the Newsletters ended when Hazel withdrew as the editor, and the organization soon dissolved.

This USGenWeb Archives Special Collections Project is dedicated to the memory of Hazel Arnold MacIvor, and her lifelong devotion to sharing Arnold genealogical information.

The primary access to specific names and places included in the Newsletters will be through the use of a Search Engine:

The Newsletters may also be accessed by the following two Indexes

These indexes are shown in their complete form, although all of the information has not been prepared and placed on-line. As each publication is completed, it will be linked from the index.

Unpublished Documents

During the 14 years that the AFAS existed, nearly two thousand pages of material were published. When the Association terminated, there was some information that had not been published that remained in the files. The remaining records have been gathered and are being added to the database as they are transcribed:

As a reminder, one of the Association's major projects was the preparation of family group sheets for each member. In 1983, twelve volumes were sent to the Virginia State Library and Archives in Richmond along with a computerized cross index of Arnold given names and spouses.
