The Grand Saline Public Library was founded in 1966. The Library was originally housed in the building next City Hall. In 1980 the Library moved to its current location, in the old Missouri-Pacific Railroad Depot built in 1923. The depot originally sat along the Texas and Pacific Railroad line. With the salt industry in town the railroad depot was vital for shipping and receiving to and from the different salt mines in town during the early 1900's. The building had been sitting empty for many years when the library moved into the building in 1980. The library has since grown and shows a very healthy annual increase in circulation. It is also a member of Northeast Texas Library System.
