Opened in 2001, the Canton Plaza Museum incorporats a diverse collection: the Brewer Bell Collection, First Monday Museum, and the Kennedy collection of Indian artifacts and models made by Mr. Butch "Boots" Kennedy. It also houses various local historic items, including a 1938 fully restored fire engine as well as an impressive Civil War collection. An 1830's rosewood "melodian" grand piano and items pertaining to the piano, orginally owned by Lucy Holcombe Pickins, is housed as a temporary collection. The museum is owned by the city of Canton and operated a a private non-profit museum.

The museum is located in the old Canton Plaza Theatre. This was a grand building in its time, built just off the Sqaare in 1948. A fire in the 1960's brought about a major remodeling. No extensive changes have been made in the structure since that time other than the leveling of the floor and the installation of central air conditioning in 2002, making the building comfortable for visitors.

The museum was pleased to welcome the City of Canton Chamber of Commerce as a joint tenant in the Spring of 2005.
