Welcome to Van Zandt County's
New Automobile Owners of 1924
Index

After automobiles were owned and used more and more, the auto dealers would list every new owner in their newspaper advertisements. The new owners, it would appear, did not object to letting their neighbors and friends thoughout the county made aware that they had purchased a new automobile! Here is a list of new car owners in 1924. We thought it might be interesting to know whether your ancestors owned "machines" or were still relying on the old horse and buggy or wagon. The following list is from the Canton Herald, January 11, 1924. This list is from one dealership, however, so if your ancestor did business with another establishment, the name would not appear here. Note: We assume that the automobile type "Fordor" Sedan was a 1924 technical term for "Four Door" Sedan!

The advertisement from the Ford-Lincoln Dealership of Canton and Wills Point: "We want to take this opportunity to thank our cusotmers for the splendid business we have enjoyed the past year. We have striven in words and action to merit your confidence and co-operation and with the coming of another year, we hope to again be able to number you as a friend and customer. When we sell a car it is our desire to make you a satisfied purchaser and you are entitled to a maximum amount of service and if you are not getting this service you will confer a favor by reporting same to this office. We show befow a list of new cars sold of which we are justly proud and extend our sincere thanks. If your name doesn't appear in this list, we hope to be able to list it in the next."
