Bohemian Cemetery
Cemetery
information updated May 1, 2005

The cemetery is on privately owned land & Davy Crockett National Forest.  The directions given for finding this cemetery were to take State Highway 94 from Groveton, TX, toward Apple Springs, turn right at the Lacy Cemetery sign, go past the Lacy cemetery to Parkers & Roxie Tullos places, take the first road to the left & the Bohemian Cemetery would be on the right side of this almost abandoned road in the woods. You will need an escort to access the cemetery through private land.

While the Czechoslovakian settlers were still in the area, the town of Bohemian existed.  Bohemian, Texas is now part of the Sylvester, Texas community. Some Czechoslovakian families may have re-interned their family members when they moved, giving credence to local claim that no one was buried there and it was an abandoned cemetery.  THIS IS FALSE INFORMATION.  Listed below are some of the known graves.   The picture to the right shows the traditional pipe that marks a gravesite.  It is understood that the pipe is for the deceased to breath or the spirit to escape to heaven.  In 2002, Trinity County Historical Commission (TCHC) was contacted by a family member,  who visited this cemetery, and gave us the names listed below.  She was upset because vandals had attacked the cemetery, breaking up tombstones and digging in graves.  The skeletal remains were reburied.  We find this appalling.  Our sympathies go out to this family.

For all of our cemeteries, we indicate both Trinity County Cemeteries ©1980 and the second edition Trinity County Texas Cemeteries © 1992 both published by Trinity County Historical Commission (TCHC) were consulted.  Both editions indicated that the cemetery had disappeared.  Again, this is false information.  You can contact Trinity County Historical Commission, P.O. Box 123, Groveton, TX 75845,  if there are any corrections, questions or information to add to this listing.
