Trinity County Sheriffs (1850-1982)

     The first County Sheriff of Trinity County was appointed April 1, 1850.  He was Benjamin B. Ellis.  In the election of August 5, 1850, Benjamin L. White was elected and served two terms.  He was followed by: Alfred S. Vinsans 1854; Benjamin L. White; 1858; John F. Moore 1860; Stephen F. Tullos 1864; W. T. Davis 1865; John J. West 1865; John Hilliard 1866; Robert A Turner 1866, the last four appointed by Provisional Governor Hamilton; Thomas H. Kenley 1869 resigned December 1, 1870; Robert Crow 1869; appointed by General Reynolds; T. D. Stanford 1870; Franklin Benton 1876; J. F. Holmes February 21, 1877, killed February 22, 1877; R. T. Chandler 1877; Paul McGarr 1886, also Tax Collector; D. J. Campbell 1890, also Tax Collector; G. H. Kirkwood 1894, also Tax Collector; J. C. Collins 1896, also Tax Collector; Dave Chandler 1900; J.
