MRS. NELLIE WHITLEY

Mrs. Nellie Whitley, 57, formerly of Happy, died April 10 in a Los Angeles,
California hospital. The former Nellie Cowan, daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs.
William Cowan, pioneer Happy Hotel operators, was born February 26, 1899.
She was married to Earl Whitley in 1915. He died about two years ago of a heart
attack.

Survivors include two sons, William Whitley and Odell Whitley; three grandsons
and two granddaughters; a sister, Mrs. Lester Jones, Durango Co; and a brother, 
Earl Cowan of Happy.

After sending the obituary on Nellie Cowan Whitley, previous resident of Happy, I found her cemetery
marker photo and info. She is buried in Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier, (Los Angeles Cnty) Ca.; in the  
Acacia Lawn Area. I understand some members of the Cowan's (Nellie also) family lived in Happy for approx.
20 years. Nellie married my uncle Earl B. Whitley in 1915 in Happy (their marriage info is on the website);
They moved to Calif. and Earl died in Arkansas in 1954. On the 1930 census for Happy, Nellie was a housekeeper
in the Happy Hotel; Earl was an auto salesman.
