Mahaney, Boyce

TULIA -- Funeral services for Boyce Mahaney, 77, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Eden Emerson, minister of Central Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mr. Mahaney died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006.  Plainview Daily Herald, 16 February 2006.

TULIA - Boyce Mahaney, 77, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006.  Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Eben Emerson, pastor of Central Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.  Mr. Mahaney was born Nov. 4, 1928, in Dawson County. He married Jane Fisher on April 29, 1948.  Survivors include a son, Randy Mahaney of Tulia; two brothers, Johnny Mahaney of Lubbock and C.L. Mahaney of Farwell; a sister, Ernestine Duncan of Lubbock; two grandsons; and a great-grandson.   Amarillo Globe-News, 17 February 2006.
Martin, Jeanette T.

TULIA -- Funeral services for Jeanette T. Martin, 70, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rob Lindley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Silverton Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mrs. Martin died Friday, April 7, 2006, in Lubbock. She was born March 15, 1936, in Silverton and grew up and attended schools there. She graduated from Silverton High School in 1954 and attended Clarendon Junior College for two years before transferring to West Texas State University, graduating in 1958 with a degree in education. She taught for eight years. She married William Earl Martin in 1961. He died in 1979. They moved to Tulia in 1965 where she worked for Caprock Home Health Care for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she took care of the nursery for more than 20 years. Survivors include one daughter, Melinda Jan Barnett of Bitely, Mich.; one brother, Jaye Turner of Rio Rancho, N.M.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Frank Odom of Lubbock and Joann and Jim Griffin of Del Norte, Colo.; one granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.   Plainview Daily Herald, 10 April 2006.

TULIA - Jeanette T. Martin, 70, died Friday, April 7, 2006, in Lubbock.  Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rob Lindley officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Silverton Cemetery in Silverton. Arrangements are by Kornerstone Funeral Directors.  Mrs. Martin was born March 15, 1936, in Silverton. She grew up and attended schools there. She graduated from Silverton High School in 1954. She taught in Pampa for two years before returning to Silverton, where she taught for eight years. She married William Earl Martin in 1961. He passed away in 1979. TULIA -- Funeral Mass for Simon Martinez, 69, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Church of the Holy Spirit with the Rev. Tony Neusch, pastor, officiating. McDonald, Joan Ratjen
HAPPY - Joan Ratjen McDonald, 72, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006, in Amarillo.  Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Miller, pastor of South Georgia Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Happy Cemetery. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon and Happy, 1702 Fifth Ave., Canyon.  Mrs. McDonald was born May 9, 1933, to Amos and Jettie Jo Dansby Ratjen in Randall County. She graduated from Happy High School in 1951. Joan married Reed McDonald on Sept. 5, 1952, outside of Tulia. She was an employee at First State Bank in Happy as a computer operator and teller. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she served as a fifth- and sixth-grade Sunday school teacher for 25 years. She was also the church treasurer for seven years and an assistant for many years. Joan served as an officer in Order of Easter Star, Women's Study Club, WMU and Happy Senior Citizens. She was a lifetime resident in Happy. She enjoyed raising her family and being a housewife.  Survivors include her husband, Reed McDonald; two daughters, Debi Adams of Amarillo and Donna Foster and husband Steve of Lubbock; two sons, Terry McDonald and wife Debbie of Amarillo and Kelly McDonald and wife Tricia of Damon; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Amarillo Globe-News, 9 March 2006.

HAPPY - Ricky McPherson, 56, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, in Tulia.  Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with Lee Wayne Carthel officiating and the Rev. Paul Burwash, pastor of First Baptist Church in Happy, assisting. Burial will be in Happy Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.  Mr. McPherson married Diane Smith on July 11, 2003, in Happy. He has worked for Brown's Power and Equipment Co. since 1986 as a mechanic and shop foreman.  Survivors include his wife, Diane McPherson of Happy; two daughters, Michelle Whitsett of Burkburnett and Erica Reyes of Happy; a brother, Milton McPherson of Amarillo; five sisters, Terri Trimble and Becky Crosby, both of Plainview, Donna Stewart of Gruver, Connie McKelva of Amarillo and Mary Hodges of Vega; and four grandchildren.  Amarillo Globe-News, 19 October 2006.

Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.  Mrs. Meza was born Oct. 21, 1951, in Piedras Negras, Mexico. TULIA — Funeral services for Gloria G. Mickey, 75, will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with the Homer Galyen, Church of Christ minister, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Mrs. Mickey died Thursday, June 8, 2006, in Amarillo. She was born April 21, 1931, in Halfway. She grew up in Hale County and attended schools in Plainview. She married Claud Mickey on June 30, 1948. They lived in Canyon and then moved to Tulia where they lived for more than 50 years. He died Dec. 20, 2002. She worked for the county treasurer and then became Swisher County librarian in 1972, helping the library become a member of of the Texas Panhandle Library System. She retired in 1982 and moved to Amarillo in 2003. Survivors include one son, David Mickey of Amarillo; two brothers, Jimmy Gilbert of Plainview and Eugene Gilbert of Houston; two sisters, Lillie Monteith of Houston and Laura Jane Gammage of Midland; three grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.   Plainville Daily Herald, 9 June 2006.

Milner, Moditha

TULIA -- Funeral services for Moditha Milner, 88, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church in Kress with Jim Fox, chaplain of VistaCare Hospice, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Home. Mrs. Milner died Thursday, April 20, 2006. She was born July 9, 1917, to John and Ada Wells Clark in Cisco. She grew up in the Plainview area. She married Kenneth Hartwell Milner on Dec. 24, 1939. She was a homemaker and worked on the family farm. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women of First United Methodist Church in Kress for 33 years, taught the youth and helped with church activities. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Shirley Milner of Panhandle and Jerry and Jacqueline Milner of Jasper, Mo.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Her parents; husband; brother, Wayne Clark; and two sisters, Florene McPherson and Leona Summerville, are deceased.  Plainview Daily Herald, 23 april 2006.

HAPPY - Dorotha F. Cox Nall, 86, died Monday, April 17, 2006.  Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church in Happy with the Rev. Paul Burwash, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Plainview Cemetery by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon.  Mrs. Nall was born June 4, 1919, in Swisher County to Homer Posey Bond and Mary Chamblee Bond. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Happy, and a homemaker. Renfro, Bobbie

Bobbie Renfro, 73, of Kress, passed away at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, at Swisher Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at First United Methodist Church in Kress with Rev. O.K. Neal, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Kress Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mrs. Renfro was born Feb. 11, 1933, at Standfield Ranch near Henrietta to Clyde and Willie Mae Rains. Her family moved from Henrietta to the Plains and the Bellview community in the 1940s. She attended schools in Plainview and Kress. Mrs. Renfro was a beautician and owned her own shop in Kress. She enjoyed all sports. Her many talents were reflected in the home she made with John; her love of gardening and handwork were evident all around. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jimmie Vineyard. She married John Renfro in June 1982 in Kress. Survivors include her husband, John Renfro of Kress; children, Mike and Sherry Vineyard of Lubbock, Buddy and Wanda Vineyard of Kress, Sherry and Keith Duncan of Albuquerque, N.M., Mike Renfro of Austin, Sherry Zink of Colorado and Donna Buck of Lubbock; three brothers, Paul and Louise Rains of Midland, Elmore and Elaine Rains of Amarillo and Nolan Rains of Austin; one sister, Nell and Randy Campbell of Kress; 13 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Plainview Daily Herald, 14 August 2006.

TULIA -- Funeral services for Earline Rogers, 83, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Central Church of Christ with Eben Emerson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mrs. Rogers died on Wednesday, April 26, 2006, in Tulia. She was born May 1, 1922, in Vernon and grew up in the Vernon area and graduated from high school there. She married J.W. “Hap” Rogers on July 12, 1941, in Frederick, Okla. She was a homemaker and a coach´s wife. They lived in Duncan, Okla., Lawton, Okla., McLean, Amarillo and finally Tulia. She was a member of Central Church of Christ, Tulia Garden Club, Quilting Club, a study club and taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed many things such as quilting, painting and working with porcelain. Survivors include her husband; two daughters and one son-in-law, Penny and Larry Sturgess of Tulia and Suzy Arnold of Midland; one son, Jessie Rogers of Post; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. KRESS -- Funeral services for Jacob Rogers, 18, will be at 1 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rob Blum, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Kress Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mr. Rogers died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, in Kress. He was born Oct. 7, 1987, in Plainview. While attending Tulia Junior High, he was a member of the student council and played athletics. He was a senior at Tulia High School. He won numerous awards for his welding work in the Tulia High School VICA program. He was a member of the Swisher County FFA and the Swisher County 4-H Club where he won numerous awards, including the 4-H Gold Star Award. He was active in the Swisher County Stock Shows. He had many friends in Kress and Tulia. Survivors include his parents, Jeff and Rhonda Rogers of Kress; a sister, Jenny Rogers of Lubbock; grandparents Richard and Carolyn Hale of Tulia; and great-grandmother Daphne Hale of Tulia. Ruland, A. D. Funeral services for A.D. Ruland, 81, were at 3 p.m. Saturday at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. James Hassell, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia Mr. Ruland died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, in Tulia. He was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Swisher County. He grew up in Tulia and attended Tulia schools. He served in the US Army from 1943-46 during WWII. He married June Buster on March 14, 1946, in Tulia. He worked for Tulia Wheat Growers for 42 years and was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannett and John Herring of Tulia and Lora and John Strother of Panhandle; one sister, Shirley Wilfong of Tulia; and three grandchildren.
Sain, Jessie

TULIA -- Funeral services for for Jessie Sain, 72, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mrs. Sain died Sunday, March 26, 2006, in Tulia. She was born April 23, 1933, in Paducah and grew up in Ennis and attended schools there. She married the Rev. James Sain on June 30, 1954, in Ennis. She was a homemaker and taught Sunday school. They lived in several towns in Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. She helped with the Headstart program and was president of the Band Mothers when they lived in Mansos, Colo. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Tulia. Survivors include her husband; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cindy Rea of Pecos, Gayla and George Spencer and Shelia and Jimmy Bice, all of Tulia; one son, Rickey Sain of Tulia; five brothers, Larry Oliver and Jack Oliver, both of Ennis, Fred Oliver of Longview, Dickie Oliver of Irving and Gene Oliver of Mesquite; three sisters, Charlene Eastman and Geraldine Witherspoon, both of Ennis, and Imagean Stripling of Irving; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  Plainview Daily Herald, 28 March 2006.

Sharp, Frank A.

TULIA -- Funeral services for Frank A. Sharp, 86, were at 2 p.m. today in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Lee officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mr. Sharp died Sunday, March 19, 2006, in Plainview. He was born Nov. 14, 1919, in Plainview. He attended schools in Plainview, Corpus Christi and Nazareth before graduating from Tulia High School in 1936. He attended Texas Tech for three years before he went into the Army Air Corps on June 16, 1942, at Sheppard Field AFB in Wichita Falls. He was an airplane maintenance technician and also served for two years in England and France during World War II. He received the Bronze Star. He returned to Castro County in 1945 and started farming. He married Josie Smith on Oct. 18, 1946, in Tulia. He was a former commander of the American Legion in Nazareth and member of the VFW in Tulia. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Cathy Hollis of Arlington and Martha McRee of Tulia; three sons, Steven Sharp of Tulia, Dan Sharp of Wills Point and Brad Sharp of Tulia; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four nephews. His parents, Al and Irene Sharp, and two sisters, Doris Sharp and Carol Shirley Clifford, are deceased.  Plainview Daily Herald, 21 March 2006.

Stockett, Dr. Joe N.

Dr. Joe N. Stockett, D.V.M., 58, of Plainview, passed away at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at Covenant Hospital Plainview. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Tulia with the Rev. Rob Lindley, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Wayside Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Dr. Stockett was born April 3, 1947, in Tulia to Roy and Dorothy Stockett. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1965 and from Texas A&M in 1971. He married Kim Duong on July 28, 1982, in Lubbock. He owned and operated Town & Country Animal Clinic in Plainview for the past 31 years. He was involved in the Plainview Humane Society and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Tulia. He is survived by his wife, Kim, of Plainview; three daughters, Rachel Hicks of McKinney, Karen Mahan of Lubbock and Jackie Fulton and husband Debs of Plainview; two sons, Paul Mahan and wife Dana of Friendswood and Jimmy Mahan and wife Tina of McKinney; his mother, Dorothy Stockett of Tulia; one brother, James Stockett and wife Jane of Tulia; one sister, Nita Hooper of Tulia; and 11 grandchildren. She grew up in Mexico and lived in Harlingen from 1953-67 before moving to Tulia. She married Eleazar Subealdea in 1951. She worked for the Tulia Health and Rehabilitation Center for about 18 years. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Norma Cruz of Midland and Maria Elena Gomez of Tulia; six sons, Jaime Subealdea and Eleazar Subealdea Jr., both of Plainview, and Eloy Subealdea, Frank Subealdea, Baldemar Subealdea and Eddie Subealdea, all of Tulia; two brothers, Francisco Sifuentes and Daniel Sifuentes, both of Reynosa; 21 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.  Plainview Daily Herald, 11 August 2006.

Wayne, George

TULIA -- Funeral services for Wayne George, 88, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with Gerald Bedwell, an elder of 11th and Amarillo Church of Christ in Plainview, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Mr. George died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006. He was born April 6, 1917, in Tulia. He grew up in the Kaffir community and attended schools there. He was a longtime farmer/rancher in Swisher County. He was a avid volunteer for Tulia Senior Citizens and Meals on Wheels. He was twice named Tulia´s “Outstanding Volunteer of the Year.” He also served on the library board and the Memorial Board. He married Gennie V. Payne on Aug. 7, 1938, in Clovis, N.M. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; one daughter and son-in-law, Gaye and Don Young of Tulia; one son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Sue George of Tulia; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. His sisters, Betty Golden and Artelle Thompson, are deceased.  Plainview Daily Herald, 4 January 2006.

Weavers, Charlotte
HAPPY - Charlotte Weavers, 70, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, in Amarillo.  Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Burwash officiating. Burial will be in Happy Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors.  Charlotte Weavers was born April 3, 1936, to Alice White and William A. Penn in Happy. She was a lifelong resident of Happy. She graduated from Happy High School and attended Wayland Baptist University. Charlotte married Roman Weavers on June 14, 1958, in Happy.  Mrs. Weavers was employed for the last 15 years by Happy School District as a cook. Prior to her employment at the school, she was a waitress at Al's Cafe for 10 years. Charlotte was a member of First Baptist Church in Happy.  She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987; a son, Leslie Weavers in 1990; a sister, Willie Faye Noel in 1964; and two brothers, Tommy Penn, in 1958 and George Penn in 2002.  Survivors include a daughter, Romana Boyd of Sherman; a daughter-in-law, Nita Simpson and husband Ray of Tulia; and two brothers, Bill Penn and wife Sandra of Amarillo and David Penn and wife Kay of Sulphur Springs. Welch, Carroll

KRESS -- Funeral services for Carroll Welch, 71, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay Simpson, Area Community Hospice chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Silverton Cemetery in Silverton by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mr. Welch died Monday, April 24, 2006, in Plainview. He was born June 3, 1934, in Silverton. He grew up and attended school in Silverton. He worked on a ranch before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He was a platoon leader and was stationed at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Wash. He married Judy Burson on Sept. 17, 1956, in Fort Sumner, N.M. She died Sept. 19, 2003. They moved to Swisher County when he returned home in 1961 and he continued to farm and ranch. He was an assistant manager of Tulia Feed Lot for 12 years. He attended First Baptist Church in Kress, was a charter member of the National Cutting Horse Association and life member of the American Quarter Horse Association. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Hunt of Coeur d´Alene, Idaho, and Kathy Welch of Kress; one brother, Ronald Lee Welch of Tulia; two sisters, Wilma McElmurry of Taft, Calif., and Othel Long of Silverton; a sister-in-law, Juanita Howard of Silverton; and many nieces and nephews.  Plainview Daily Herald, 26 April 2006.

Wesley, Imelda

TULIA -- Funeral Mass for Imelda Wesley, 77, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Church of the Holy Spirit with the Rev. Tony Neusch, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Happy Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Home of Tulia. Mrs. Wesley died Thursday, March 16, 2006. Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. Wesley, Mary Nell Age 89 of Tulia.  Services 20 September 2006 at Moore-Rose-White Chapel in Lockney with Jeffrey Lee officiating.  Burial in Lockney Cemetery by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home of Lockney.  Died 17 September 2006 in Swisher Memorial Hospital in Tulia.  Born 8 March 1917 in Morris Chapel, Tennessee to William Ernest and Ocie Estellee Mangum.  Married Gus Wesley 19 June 2001 in Tulia.  Teacher for 42 years; member of First Baptist Church in Lockney.  Survivors:  Numerous nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by two brothers, Wade Mangum and Paul Mangum, and one sister, Lois Fox.  Published by Plainview Daily Herald 18 September 2006.
Whitehorn, Billie

HAPPY — Graveside services for Billie Whitehorn, 78, sister of Dorothy May of Lockney, were at 2 p.m. today in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Hereford with Kevin Akins, evangelist, and the Rev. Rick Mitchell, pastor of Third Day Fellowship Church of Lubbock, officiating. Arrangements were by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon and Happy. Mrs. Whitehorn died Saturday, July 8, 2006.  Plainview Daily Herald, 10 July 2006.

Zehnpfennig, Dee
HAPPY - Dee Zehnpfennig, 78, died Saturday, April 1, 2006.  Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church in Happy with the Rev. Paul Burwash officiating. Burial will be in Happy Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors.  Dee Zehnpfennig was born Feb. 26, 1928, to Ross and Beatrice Murray Myers in Lincoln, Neb. A 20-year resident of the town of Happy, she found joy in her Little House on Prairie. She was a longtime supporter and devoted fan of local high school athletic programs; she was a fixture at annual homecoming games.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken, in 1996. Survivors include two sons, Gerald Zehnpfennig of Washington state and Greg Zehnpfennig of San Bernadino, Calif.; four daughters, Monica and husband John Anstey of Happy, Patty Bryant of Baytown, Cindy Erhart of Baldwin Park, Calif., and Tami DeSpain of San Jose, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.  Amarillo Globe-News, 4 April 2006.
