TULIA -- Funeral services for Jeanette T. Martin, 70, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rob Lindley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Silverton Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mrs. Martin died Friday, April 7, 2006, in Lubbock. She was born March 15, 1936, in Silverton and grew up and attended schools there. She graduated from Silverton High School in 1954 and attended Clarendon Junior College for two years before transferring to West Texas State University, graduating in 1958 with a degree in education. She taught for eight years. She married William Earl Martin in 1961. He died in 1979. They moved to Tulia in 1965 where she worked for Caprock Home Health Care for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she took care of the nursery for more than 20 years. Survivors include one daughter, Melinda Jan Barnett of Bitely, Mich.; one brother, Jaye Turner of Rio Rancho, N.M.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Frank Odom of Lubbock and Joann and Jim Griffin of Del Norte, Colo.; one granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.   Plainview Daily Herald, 10 April 2006.

TULIA — Funeral services for Gloria G. Mickey, 75, will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with the Homer Galyen, Church of Christ minister, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Mrs. Mickey died Thursday, June 8, 2006, in Amarillo. She was born April 21, 1931, in Halfway. She grew up in Hale County and attended schools in Plainview. She married Claud Mickey on June 30, 1948. They lived in Canyon and then moved to Tulia where they lived for more than 50 years. He died Dec. 20, 2002. She worked for the county treasurer and then became Swisher County librarian in 1972, helping the library become a member of of the Texas Panhandle Library System. She retired in 1982 and moved to Amarillo in 2003. Survivors include one son, David Mickey of Amarillo; two brothers, Jimmy Gilbert of Plainview and Eugene Gilbert of Houston; two sisters, Lillie Monteith of Houston and Laura Jane Gammage of Midland; three grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.   Plainville Daily Herald, 9 June 2006.

She grew up in the Plainview area. She married Kenneth Hartwell Milner on Dec. 24, 1939. She was a homemaker and worked on the family farm. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women of First United Methodist Church in Kress for 33 years, taught the youth and helped with church activities. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Shirley Milner of Panhandle and Jerry and Jacqueline Milner of Jasper, Mo.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Bobbie Renfro, 73, of Kress, passed away at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, at Swisher Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at First United Methodist Church in Kress with Rev. O.K. Neal, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Kress Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mrs. Renfro was born Feb. 11, 1933, at Standfield Ranch near Henrietta to Clyde and Willie Mae Rains. Her family moved from Henrietta to the Plains and the Bellview community in the 1940s. She attended schools in Plainview and Kress. Mrs. Renfro was a beautician and owned her own shop in Kress. She enjoyed all sports. Her many talents were reflected in the home she made with John; her love of gardening and handwork were evident all around. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jimmie Vineyard. She married John Renfro in June 1982 in Kress. Survivors include her husband, John Renfro of Kress; children, Mike and Sherry Vineyard of Lubbock, Buddy and Wanda Vineyard of Kress, Sherry and Keith Duncan of Albuquerque, N.M., Mike Renfro of Austin, Sherry Zink of Colorado and Donna Buck of Lubbock; three brothers, Paul and Louise Rains of Midland, Elmore and Elaine Rains of Amarillo and Nolan Rains of Austin; one sister, Nell and Randy Campbell of Kress; 13 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Plainview Daily Herald, 14 August 2006.

TULIA -- Funeral services for Earline Rogers, 83, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Central Church of Christ with Eben Emerson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mrs. Rogers died on Wednesday, April 26, 2006, in Tulia. She was born May 1, 1922, in Vernon and grew up in the Vernon area and graduated from high school there. She married J.W. “Hap” Rogers on July 12, 1941, in Frederick, Okla. She was a homemaker and a coach´s wife. They lived in Duncan, Okla., Lawton, Okla., McLean, Amarillo and finally Tulia. She was a member of Central Church of Christ, Tulia Garden Club, Quilting Club, a study club and taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed many things such as quilting, painting and working with porcelain. Survivors include her husband; two daughters and one son-in-law, Penny and Larry Sturgess of Tulia and Suzy Arnold of Midland; one son, Jessie Rogers of Post; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. While attending Tulia Junior High, he was a member of the student council and played athletics. He was a senior at Tulia High School. He won numerous awards for his welding work in the Tulia High School VICA program. He was a member of the Swisher County FFA and the Swisher County 4-H Club where he won numerous awards, including the 4-H Gold Star Award. He was active in the Swisher County Stock Shows. He had many friends in Kress and Tulia. Survivors include his parents, Jeff and Rhonda Rogers of Kress; a sister, Jenny Rogers of Lubbock; grandparents Richard and Carolyn Hale of Tulia; and great-grandmother Daphne Hale of Tulia. Mrs. Sain died Sunday, March 26, 2006, in Tulia. She was born April 23, 1933, in Paducah and grew up in Ennis and attended schools there. She married the Rev. James Sain on June 30, 1954, in Ennis. She was a homemaker and taught Sunday school. They lived in several towns in Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. She helped with the Headstart program and was president of the Band Mothers when they lived in Mansos, Colo. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Tulia. Survivors include her husband; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cindy Rea of Pecos, Gayla and George Spencer and Shelia and Jimmy Bice, all of Tulia; one son, Rickey Sain of Tulia; five brothers, Larry Oliver and Jack Oliver, both of Ennis, Fred Oliver of Longview, Dickie Oliver of Irving and Gene Oliver of Mesquite; three sisters, Charlene Eastman and Geraldine Witherspoon, both of Ennis, and Imagean Stripling of Irving; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  Plainview Daily Herald, 28 March 2006.

TULIA -- Funeral services for Frank A. Sharp, 86, were at 2 p.m. today in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Lee officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mr. Sharp died Sunday, March 19, 2006, in Plainview. He was born Nov. 14, 1919, in Plainview. He attended schools in Plainview, Corpus Christi and Nazareth before graduating from Tulia High School in 1936. He attended Texas Tech for three years before he went into the Army Air Corps on June 16, 1942, at Sheppard Field AFB in Wichita Falls. He was an airplane maintenance technician and also served for two years in England and France during World War II. He received the Bronze Star. He returned to Castro County in 1945 and started farming. He married Josie Smith on Oct. 18, 1946, in Tulia. He was a former commander of the American Legion in Nazareth and member of the VFW in Tulia. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Cathy Hollis of Arlington and Martha McRee of Tulia; three sons, Steven Sharp of Tulia, Dan Sharp of Wills Point and Brad Sharp of Tulia; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four nephews. Dr. Joe N. Stockett, D.V.M., 58, of Plainview, passed away at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at Covenant Hospital Plainview. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Tulia with the Rev. Rob Lindley, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Wayside Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Dr. Stockett was born April 3, 1947, in Tulia to Roy and Dorothy Stockett. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1965 and from Texas A&M in 1971. He married Kim Duong on July 28, 1982, in Lubbock. He owned and operated Town & Country Animal Clinic in Plainview for the past 31 years. He was involved in the Plainview Humane Society and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Tulia. He is survived by his wife, Kim, of Plainview; three daughters, Rachel Hicks of McKinney, Karen Mahan of Lubbock and Jackie Fulton and husband Debs of Plainview; two sons, Paul Mahan and wife Dana of Friendswood and Jimmy Mahan and wife Tina of McKinney; his mother, Dorothy Stockett of Tulia; one brother, James Stockett and wife Jane of Tulia; one sister, Nita Hooper of Tulia; and 11 grandchildren. She grew up in Mexico and lived in Harlingen from 1953-67 before moving to Tulia. She married Eleazar Subealdea in 1951. She worked for the Tulia Health and Rehabilitation Center for about 18 years. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Norma Cruz of Midland and Maria Elena Gomez of Tulia; six sons, Jaime Subealdea and Eleazar Subealdea Jr., both of Plainview, and Eloy Subealdea, Frank Subealdea, Baldemar Subealdea and Eddie Subealdea, all of Tulia; two brothers, Francisco Sifuentes and Daniel Sifuentes, both of Reynosa; 21 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.  Plainview Daily Herald, 11 August 2006.

He grew up in the Kaffir community and attended schools there. He was a longtime farmer/rancher in Swisher County. He was a avid volunteer for Tulia Senior Citizens and Meals on Wheels. He was twice named Tulia´s “Outstanding Volunteer of the Year.” He also served on the library board and the Memorial Board. He married Gennie V. Payne on Aug. 7, 1938, in Clovis, N.M. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; one daughter and son-in-law, Gaye and Don Young of Tulia; one son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Sue George of Tulia; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. KRESS -- Funeral services for Carroll Welch, 71, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay Simpson, Area Community Hospice chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Silverton Cemetery in Silverton by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mr. Welch died Monday, April 24, 2006, in Plainview. He was born June 3, 1934, in Silverton. He grew up and attended school in Silverton. He worked on a ranch before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He was a platoon leader and was stationed at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Wash. He married Judy Burson on Sept. 17, 1956, in Fort Sumner, N.M. She died Sept. 19, 2003. They moved to Swisher County when he returned home in 1961 and he continued to farm and ranch. He was an assistant manager of Tulia Feed Lot for 12 years. He attended First Baptist Church in Kress, was a charter member of the National Cutting Horse Association and life member of the American Quarter Horse Association. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Hunt of Coeur d´Alene, Idaho, and Kathy Welch of Kress; one brother, Ronald Lee Welch of Tulia; two sisters, Wilma McElmurry of Taft, Calif., and Othel Long of Silverton; a sister-in-law, Juanita Howard of Silverton; and many nieces and nephews.  Plainview Daily Herald, 26 April 2006.
