KRESS -- John Emery Andrus, 87, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rob Blum, pastor, and the Rev. Clifford Trotter, retired minister of Polk Street United Methodist Church in Amarillo, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Mr. Andrus was born March 6, 1918, in Willow, Okla. He attended schools in Duke, Okla., and moved to Swisher County in 1940. He was a farmer. He married Linnie Vineyard on Feb. 12, 1941, and she died Dec. 1, 1998. He married Gwen Walker on March 6, 2000, in Amarillo. He was a member of the Kress City Council where he helped obtain the water rights for the City of Kress. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church where he served on the finance committee. He organized Kressīs first Little League baseball charter. He played in domino tournaments and enjoyed it very much. Survivors include his wife, Gwen Walker Andrus of Plainview; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Janis Andrus of Tulia and Marlin and Connie Andrus of Kress; one stepson, J.B. “Sonny” Walker of Plainview; two stepdaughters, Lynda Tye of Kress and Gayle Graham of Cullman, Ala.; one brother, Charles Royce Andrus of Arlington; three grandchildren, Lisa Schott of Silverton, Cristy Bennett of Plainview and Craig Andrus of Kress; seven great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and 13 great -step-grandchildren. He was born March 31, 1914, in Dallas County to Peter and Pauline Barbian and died at 8:10 a.m. Aug. 22, 2006, in Plainview Healthcare Center. He came to Kress in 1926 from Littlelfield. He repaired combines, loved to fish and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran, Plainview. He married Eulalia Bertelson April 26, 1945, in Plainview. Survivors are his wife; a son, Tony Barbian Jr., and wife, Nelda, of Plainview; a son-in-law, Larry Stoerner and wife Nancy of Santa Fe, N.M.; four grandchildren, Shawn Barbian of Lubbock, Dr. Scott Stoerner of Salt Like City, Utah, Sandra Ohnstad of Wichita, Kan., and Rachel Barbian of Plainview; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Barbara Bernet of Lubbock, Bertha James of Claude and Magdalene Young of Kress. TULIA - Maebel Barrow, 80, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, in Fort Worth. She was born April 19, 1931, in Shamrock and grew up in Wellington and attended schools in that area. She married Dale Carlile on June 2, 1948, in Amarillo. He died June 19, 2005. She was a homemaker and later worked for Bates Shoe Store for more than 20 years. She was a member of Central Church of Christ and taught a children's Sunday school class for many years. Survivors include three daughters and one son-in-law, Terry and Alen Dutton of Tulia, Dallana Loper of Abernathy and Robin Wesley of Amarillo; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Carlile of Arlington; one brother, David Tucker of Fort Worth; two sisters, Evelyn Keeney and Maxine Dannelley, both of Amarillo; one sister-in-law, Leota Jones of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She grew up in Ackerly and graduated from high school there. She married Ray Carlton on Feb. 1, 1946, in Ackerly. They moved to Tulia in 1952. She graduated from the Panhandle Regional Law Enforcement Academy and was a deputy sheriff in Swisher County for 12 years. She moved to Lubbock in 2003. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and Calvary Baptist Church in Lubbock. KRESS -- Funeral services for Floyd “Fuzz” Casteel, 86, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Kress First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan. Reynolds officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jay Simpson. Burial will be in the Kress Cemetery by Bartley Funeral Home of Plainview. Mr. Casteel died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at his residence. He was born Dec. 25, 1919, in Rockwall and married Weata King on Aug. 29, 1946, in Kress. She died Aug. 5, 1973. He married Ruby Lee Price on June 6, 1974, in Kress. She died Sept. 22, 2000. He was an orphan in Tipton, Okla., from the ages of 7-17. He moved to Kress and lived with the Woodruff family for a year before living and working with the Buddy Obenhaus family for seven years. He worked for Rogers Garage in Kress from 1944 until his retirement in 2000. Survivors include one daughter, Linda M. Hoffman of Tulsa, Okla.; four stepdaughters, Dovie Gilleland of Plainview, Genell K. Vaught of the Village, Fla., Bettye J. Sherer of San Antonio and Willa D. Holligan of Amarillo; two stepsons, Bobby J. King of Lubbock and Jerry W. King of Houston; one brother, William Casteel of Garland; two sisters, Ruth Orr of Amarillo and Florence Neuroth of Garland; two grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 31 step-great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit and the Knights of Columbus. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mr. Daniel died Monday, April 3, 2006, in Tulia. He was born Aug. 20, 1932, in Hood County. He grew up and attended schools there, in Paluxy, Clovis, N.M., and Tulia. He served in the National Guard for nine years in Tulia. He also worked for Mid-Plains Rural Telephone Co., Triangle Butane and Young & Ellis for 16 years. He then owned and operated Billīs Mobile Station and Billīs Fina Station. After retiring, he was a driver for the Panhandle Community Services for more than 10 years and also worked for RSVP in Tulia. He was a member of the Tulia American Legion and Sixth and Gaines Church of Christ. He married Charlie Mae Johnson on Jan. 31, 1953, in Clovis, N.M. She died Dec. 27, 1996. She was born April 15, 1933, in Cordell, Okla., to A.H. and Olive Cooper. She moved to Tulia at age 3 and lived there all her life. She graduated from Tulia High School in 1950 and from West Texas State College with a degree in business. She married Orville Finck on Jan. 24, 1954, in Tulia. She was the bookkeeper for her father at Cooper Electric for several years and after his death she was manager for three more years. She also was the bookkeeper for Finck Farms. A homemaker, she served as 4-H adult leader for 42 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities including Sunday school teacher, superintendent and on the board of church renovations. TULIA — Funeral services for J.C. Galloway, 97, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Kress Church of Christ with Eben Emerson officiating and Bob Colson assisting. Burial will be in Kress Cemetery by Bartley Funeral Home of Plainview. Mr. Galloway died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, at Swisher Memorial Hospital in Tulia. He was born Jan. 15, 1909, in Hill County and moved with his family to Duke, Okla., in a covered wagon when he was 9. He married Vesta Cypert on Dec. 21, 1927, in Oklahoma. She died in 1998. He moved to Plainview in 1948 and to Kress in 1954. He retired from J.C.’s Service Station at age 79. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Maggie Galloway of Tulsa, Okla.; three daughters and sons-in-law, June and Doyle Jackson of Spearman and Jane and the late Troy Bynam and Jean and Tommy George, all of Kress; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. TULIA -- Funeral services for Pat Galyen, 78, were at 10:30 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Davenport, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Mrs. Galyen died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, in Tulia. She was born March 12, 1927, in Snyder. She grew up in Ira and graduated from Ira High School. She also graduated from West Texas State College. She married Calvin Galyen on Dec. 27, 1948, in Snyder. She taught school at Ira and she also tutored students in Maracaibo, Venezuela, and Iquequi, Chile. She was secretary for Galyen Drilling Co., as long as it was in business. Moving to Tulia in 1965, she helped with Meals on Wheels and was a member of First Baptist Church where she was on the Bereavement Committee and a member of the senior adult choir “The Silvertones.” She helped organize the Sunshine Girls and was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband; one daughter and son-in-law, Gay and Jack Lavender of Seminole; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Joyce Galyen of Houston; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Doc and Jean Hardee of Weatherford, and Dr. D.D. and Freida Hardee of Greenville, Miss.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mona and Buford Sterling of Snyder and Jo Johnston of Edmond, Okla.; and four grandchildren.  Plainview Daily Herald, 25 January 2006.

He was also an entrepreneur and started a lawn and garden business and was a substitute teacher in Seagraves. TULIA -- Funeral services for Norma Huckabay, 74, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Terry Hart, pastor, officiating. TULIA — Funeral Mass for Albert G. Huerta, 44, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Church of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church with the Rev. Tony Neusch, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Fun-eral Directors of Tulia. A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. Mr. Huerta died Monday, June 19, 2006, in Amarillo. He was born Dec. 15, 1962, in Abernathy. He was raised in Kress and graduated from Kress High School. He joined the U.S. Army in 1982 and served for 10 years traveling around the world. He was honorably discharged in 1992. He worked for Wal-Mart for about a year and then for the Tulia prison before working for Pantex Security in Amarillo for over seven years. He was a member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Amarillo. Survivors include one daughter, Bianca Elena Huerta of Cotulla; four sisters, Diana Bullock of Tulia, Rosa Sanchez of Plainview and Angie Esquivel and Sandy Huerta, both of Kress; six brothers, Rodolfo Huerta and Ricky Huerta, both of Kress, Jesus Huerta and Ray Huerta, both of Tulia, Diego Huerta of Maxwell and Lupe Huerta of Lockney; his parents, Jesus and Hortencia Huerta of Kress; 33 nieces and nephews; and 37 great-nieces and great-nephews.  Plainview Daily Herald, 21 June 2006.

TULIA — Funeral services for Clifton Ray Jackson, 69, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Jackson Chapel Church of God in Christ with the Rev. Melvin Tatum, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A wake will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Mr. Jackson died Monday, May 8, 2006, at his residence. He was born March 3, 1937, in Corsicana. He grew up in Kerns and moved to Tulia in 1957. He married Tressie Davis in 1972. He worked for Excel for the past 32 years. Survivors include his wife; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Clifford and Tonya Jackson of Fort Worth, Colin and Elonda Jackson of Columbus, Ga., and Anthony and Ann Davis of Amarillo; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Linda Kay Lesting, Linda Faye and Alvie McKnight, Janice Strickland and Vickey and Vernon Vaught, all of Fort Worth, Sharon and Joe Shaffer and Patricia and Willie Davis, all of Amarillo; one sister, Bobbie Goen of Lubbock; two brothers, Willie B Hall Sr. of New Jersey and Johnny B. TULIA -- Funeral services for Tommy D. Lamb, 62, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Delaine Rapp, minister of Slaton Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mr. Lamb died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, in Amarillo. He was born on Oct. 27, 1943, in Quanah and attended schools there. He grew up on a farm working for his father. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1968 and served for two years and then returned home to farm. He married Barbara Turner on Jan. 15, 1965, in Abernathy. They moved to Tulia in 1986 and he farmed for John Herring for 15 years. Survivors include his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and John Brewer of Sherman and Leigh and Deon Byrd of Tulia; one son and daughter-in-law, Butch and Kristi Lamb of Abilene; one brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Thresa Lamb of Tulia; and nine grandchildren. His brother, Wally Wayne Lamb, and a sister, Linda Hope, are deceased.  Plainview Daily Herald, 20 January 2006.

TULIA -- Memorial services for Joe Lavender, 55, will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Hawthorne officiating, assisted by the Rev. Rob Lindley, pastor. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mr. Lavender died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, in Tulia.
