Adcock, Mary Joe	Mary Joe Adcock, infant daughter of Mr. & Mrs. H. C. Adcock of the Ralph community, died Tuesday at the Neblett Hospital in Canyon. Rev. R R Gilbreath, pastor of the Happy Methodist Church, conducted the services at the Thompson Funeral Chapel in Canyon at 4:30 Tuesday afternoon in the presence of the family and friends, after which interment was in Dreamland Cemetery at Canyon. One little sister, Nancy Lois, and the parents, are the immediate survivors. the Happy Herald, 25 May 1939.
Aikman, Lee H.	Funeral services for Lee H. Aikman, 70, a Hereford resident for 16 years, were held from the Methodist Church in that city at 2:30 Monday afternoon with Rev. Marvin B. Norwood in charge. Burial was in West Park Cemetery. Mr. Aikman died early Sunday morning after an illness of two weeks. He is survived by a son R L. Aikman of Olton; a daughter, Miss Ela Aikman, teacher in Hereford schools; a brother, Ira Aikman, Los Gatos, CA. Mr. Aikman was born at Pinhook , TN January 11, 1869. He came to Texas in 1885 and to Hereford in 1923. He married MATILDA PETERS in 1896. Friends from Happy attending the funeral were H. E. Toles, Sam LaRoe, Homer T. LaRoe, Mr. & Mrs. Babe Walberg and Mr. & Mrs. Roger Shook. The Happy Herald, 30 November 1939.
Amerson, Truda Dell	Funeral services for Truda Dell Amerson, 5 year old daughter of Mr. & Mrs. F. O. Amerson, were held in the Methodist Church at Tulia, March 25 at 2 p.m. Rev. H. B. Standlee, pastor of the Vigo Park circuit, and Rev. Uel D. Crosby were in charge. Truda Dell was born September 10, 1933, 18 miles NE of Tulia and passed away in the Tulia hospital March 24th at Tulia following an appendicitis operation March 20th. She took sick Friday night, March 17 and was never any better. She is survived by her mother and father, five sisters, four brothers and other relatives and friends. The Happy Herald, 30 March 1939.
Anderson, Bena	Mrs. Bena Anderson, 84, old pioneer Randall County woman, died in a Canyon hospital Wednesday evening at 6:00 after being struck by a car Friday night. The pioneer woman was a native of Sweden, but came to Randall County at an early age. She had resided in Canyon for almost 30 years. She was a member of the Lutheran Church. Survivors include one son, Carl Anderson of Canyon; and six daughters, Mrs. C. W. Robinson of Fairfield, Iowa; Mrs. Neil Robinson of Wichita, KS; Mrs. Frank Crawford of Lafayette, IN; Mrs. Arthur Oleson of Canyon; and Mrs. Otto Stockhous of East Lake, CO. Funeral arrangements had not been completed Wednesday, pending arrival of relatives. The body is in the care of Griggs‑Thompson Funeral Home. The Happy Herald, 7 September 1939.
Arnold, Dr. C. K.	Funeral services for Dr. C. K. Arnold, 48, who died at a Plainview hospital Sunday night following an illness of four months, were held at the Floydada Methodist Church Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 with pastor Rev. Vernon Shaw, Floydada Baptist minister officiating with burial in the Floydada Cemetery. Dr. Arnold was a member of the Methodist Church, a mason and the Shrine and an ex‑serviceman. Born January 1, 1891 at Graham, TX he spent his earlier life there He was graduated form Baylor Medical School in 1915 and practiced medicine at Petrolia from 1919 to 1937 when he moved to Floydada and practiced there. Survivors include his wife, two sons, Robert and Carl, two brothers, Fred Arnold of Graham and Robert Arnold of Lubbock, and one sister, Mrs. Katherine Ferris of Fort Worth. Dr. Arnold's wife is the daughter of Mrs. P. J. Neff of this city. The Happy Herald, 4 May 1939.
Barber, Nellie May	Funeral services for Mrs. Roy F. Barber, Vigo Park, residence since 1928, will be conducted from the family residence at 4 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Rev. W. P. Jennings, Christian Church minister, will officiate. Mrs. Barber was born 11 May 1884 in Glenrose, TX, the daughter of Ben and Fannie May. She was married to ROY BARBER July 31st, 1905 at their residence in Briscoe County. Since that time she had lived exclusively in Plains towns, Dimmitt, Raton, Canyon and Tulia. Death came at the age of 55 years in the Tulia hospital Tuesday night. Members of the immediate family who survive her include her husband, three daughters, Mrs. N. Y. Crockett, Longview; Mrs. Cecil Buck, Clarendon; and Mrs. Charles Bishop, Detroit; her mother, Mrs. B. F. May, Vigo Park and a sister Mrs. Artie Hill, Ft. Worth. Pallbearers will be Dick Rogers, Jack Rogers, Murray May, Willie Patzig, Clarence Gill and Earl May. Interment will be made in the Milo Cemetery near Vigo Park. Arrangements will be in charge of the Wallace Funeral directors. Tulia, Texas, 27 September 1939.
Boling, Mrs. T. C.	Bob Boling of Canyon, employee of the Texas‑New Mexico Utility Co., who is well known in Happy, attended the funeral of his mother, Mrs. T. C. Boling, 79, of Hamilton County at Ireland, Wednesday. Mr. Boling had been at the bedside of his mother for several days. The Happy Herald, 23 February 1939.
Bowe, Dr. Frank E.	Funeral services were held at 2:30 Thursday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Hereford for Dr. Frank E. Bowe, 72, prominent rancher and veterinarian who resided there since 1906. He died Tuesday afternoon of heart failure. Services were in charge of Rev. James Aiken, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, assisted by Rev. W. E. Barnes, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Burial was in West Park Cemetery. Dr. Bowe was born June 24, 1864 at Shelsburg, Iowa, and died at the age of 72 years, 4 mos and 20 days on Nov. 14th at 2:00 p.m. He married MISS VIOLA BARNELL October 4, 1887. She died Oct. 19, 1913. He married MRS. EDNA HODGES March 29, 1915, who survives him. He came to Hereford in 1906 and engaged in ranching and veterinary work. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Besides Mrs. Bowe, he is survived by five children: Mrs. Vern Witherspoon of Hereford; Harold G. Bowe of Happy; Claire L. Bowe, Endee, NM; Mrs. George Young of Vaughan, NM; and Forrest Bowe of New York City; two brothers, Herbert Bowe of Minneapolis, MN; and Arthur Bowe, Santa Ana, CA; three sisters, Mrs. Harley Williams, Alma, MI; Mrs. Mint Delano, Clarion IA; and Mrs. Bert Pritchard, Omawa, Iowa. 16 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Bowman, Robert T.	Services for Robert T. Bowman were held at Canyon Wednesday afternoon from the First Baptist Church with Rev. J. R Hicks officiating, assisted by Rev. W. C. Laggart of Abilene. Arrangements were under the direction of Griggs Thompson funeral home of Canyon. Daughter of the deceased, Mrs. C. A. Newsom of Wichita Falls, formerly lived in Happy during which time her husband served as Principal of the Happy High School. The Happy Herald, 2 March 1939.
Bradford, Ripley	Funeral services for R H. Bradford, 63, stock farmer who operated in the Panhandle for the past half century, were held at the Wayside church Monday afternoon at 4:00. Rev. Norman, pastor of the Hooker, OK Methodist Church, officiated with burial at Wayside cemetery under direction of Blackburn‑Shaw funeral home. Mr. Bradford died Saturday night in an Amarillo hospital. He had been ill for several months. He came to Amarillo from Phoenix, AZ about two weeks ago for treatment. Mr. Bradford and his family moved to the Panhandle from Tarrant County in 1891, first settling at Claude and later moving to Tulia. He was one of the organizers of the Federal Land Association at Tulia and was prominently identified with agriculture and livestock enterprises. Survivors are his wife of Tulia and a son Clyde R. Bradford of Happy, and a sister, Mrs. C. C. Brown of Los Angeles. The Happy Herald, 8 June 1939.
Bryan, Bertha	Funeral services were held in the home at Wayside at 2:00 Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Bertha Bryan, 59, who died in an Amarillo hospital Monday afternoon. Rev. R. H. Chambers of Amarillo conducted the services Burial was at Wayside Cemetery under direction of the Griggs‑Thompson Funeral Home of Canyon. Mrs. Bryan was the widow of the late C. W. BRYAN, a pioneer stock farmer of the Wayside community. The Happy Herald, 3 March 1939.
Bryan, Jimmie Dale	Jimmie Dale Bryan, 11 month old son of Mr. & Mrs. Lester Bryan, farm couple who live 14 miles NE of Happy in the Fairview community, died about 7:00 Monday night. Survivors: parents, three sisters, Naoma Ruth, 6; Margaret Iola, 4; Billy Jean, 3; Jimmie Dale was born August 25, 1938. Funeral services were held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Bryan of the Fairview community. Interment was in Dreamland Cemetery, Canyon, under direction of Griggs‑Thompson funeral directors. The Happy Herald, 3 August 1939.
Shoemaker, Fred	Funeral services for Fred Shoemaker, 12, of Tulia were conducted from the Assembly of God church Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Walter Philips in charge of services. Shoemaker died Monday. Pallbearers for young Shoemaker were selected form his close friends. They were : Robert Hyman, Robert Green, Dale Stallings, Clifford Duncan, and Hardy Burrow. Survivors include the father and mother, two sisters, Delilah and Zula Mae, and two brothers, Jerry and A. L. Shoemaker. Interment was in the Tulia Rose Hill Cemetery. The Happy Herald, 29 June 1939.
Sinclair, Mrs. Harry	Funeral services for Mrs. Harry Sinclair, 31, mother of five children, died Friday at her home in Bethel community near Dimmitt, were conducted Saturday at the Bethel school house by Rev. Adam S. Forch, Methodist circuit preacher, assisted by Rev. F. C. Armstrong of the Lockney circuit. Interment was in the Tulia cemetery. Gladys Gwendolyn Toone was born in Denton County, Oct 26, 1907, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Toone. She was married June 11, 1927 to HARRY SINCLAIR The family moved form Tulia to the Bethel community in 1931. Survivors include the husband and five children, James, Harry, Donald Roy, Joanne, Frances Beth and John William; four brothers, Clifford Toone, Woodrow Toone, Thomas Toone and Winfred Toone and one sister, Miss Rachel Toone. Sluder, W. J.	W. J. Sluder, pioneer resident of the Wayside community, died Monday morning at 2:30 at his home at Wayside. He was 85 and had been a resident of the community for 41 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. W. J. Sluder, two sons, M. C. and J. S. Sluder both of Happy; and three daughters, Mrs. W. R Franklin of Wayside; Mrs. William Payne of Leadville, Colo., and Mrs. M. E. Counterman of Happy; 21 grandchildren and one great grandchildren. He, William John Sluder, was born May 7, 1854 in Sutter County, Calif. The family moved to Springfield, Missouri where he lived until he was 17. The family came to Texas in 1871. He married MISS MCGEHEE July 15, 1888. They had six children and recently commemorated their 50th wedding anniversary. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 from Wayside church with Rev. C. Holcomb, pastor of the Earth Methodist Church officiating. Burial was at Wayside cemetery under direction of Boxwell Bros. Funeral Home of Amarillo. The Happy Herald, 6 July 1939.
Smith, William Lee	Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Winningham and son Horace were called to Hamilton, Texas on Oct. 17th following the death of Mrs. Winningham's brother, William Lee Smith, 61. The body was laid to rest in the Hamilton cemetery beneath a large floral offering. The deceased was born and reared in Hamilton county and had spent most of his life there except a few years residence in Floyd and Lubbock counties. He was engaged in the furniture business in Hamilton at the time of his death. He joined the church in early manhood. Mr. Smith was united in marriage in 1898 to MISS ROXIE BELLE GREEN at Evant, Texas. Four children were born to this union. Mrs. Harry Morris of Lubbock; James Smith of Lubbock; Mrs. Joe Reed of Little Rock, Ark.; and Jack Smith of Giddings, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Carr of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. M. W. Winningham of Happy, and one brother, Marvin Smith of Appleby, Texas. The Happy Herald, 26 October 1939.
Waite, W. W.	W. W. Waite, 90, a resident of Plainview, was fatally injured in an accident in downtown Plainview when he was struck. He died about 3:00 Monday. He was a native of Virginia and born 24 October 1859 and married in 1870 Maggie Schneider in Alder(?), West Virginia. His wife died in 1933. He has lived here since 1917, coming here from Panhandle. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 by Woods Funeral Home. Survivors include a brother of Happy and three sisters, Mrs. J. A. Rangle of Olton, Mrs. Minnie Schneider of Amarillo and Mrs. Frank Anderson of Paducah; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Frank Ellis of Panhandle. The Happy Herald, 16 March 1939.
Young, Mrs. Zula	Funeral services for Mrs. Zula Young of St. Jo, Texas, grandmother of Mr. Harry Wood and aunt of Mr. I. C. giles, were held at Dye Mound Sunday afternoon at 2:30. Services were held at the Dye Mound Methodist Church, where she was Primary teacher for 53 years. Rev. Dennis of that church officiated and was assisted by Rev. John Raymond of the Christian Church. She is survived by 8 children, 35 grandchildren and 14 great‑grandchildren, two sisters and one brother. Eight of her grandsons were pallbearers and the others honorary pallbearers. Mr. and Mr. S. Harry Wood and Mrs. I. C. Giles of Happy and Mr. and Mrs. J. M. King, Ethel Lee and Roscoe of Tulia attended the funeral services. The Happy Herald, 19 January 1939.
