*GIBSON-YOUNG

Searching for parents of Richard T GIBSON, b 1796 TN.  Married 2nd, Mahala MEADDOW/MEADOWS in Limestone Co, AL.  Moved to TX probably between 1836-38.  Early in Sabine Co then Tyler & Polk.  Their oldest, Delila, married William YOUNG, b 1818, TN.  They lived in Tyler and later Harris.  Not sure if JB & Acton YOUNG in 1860 Tyler census are related.  Have descendants for both families.  Love to share info.  Contact Martha at  [email protected].

*SMITH/TULLOUS FAMILY IN POLK COUNTY, TEXAS

I am searching for information on Lucinda SMITH, born in 1873/1874 somewhere in Texas. I have found/learned that her mother was Josephine SMITH, born about 1847 in Mississippi. Josephine remarried to Willoughby TULLOUS in 1875 in Polk County, Tx. The 1880 census for Polk county list Willoughby as head, Josephine as wife, step-children John, Lucinda and Missouri SMITH, daughter Amanda. I have a copy of the 1900, 1910, & 1920 census for Polk County that I had a professional do for me. It lists Lucinda as married to Angus Jefferson (Bud) LEWIS; near or next door was Lucinda's brother John J. who married Mrs. Elizabeth THORTON on 5-29-1889 (I found their marriage date on roots web). I would like to know anything relating to this family, i.e. who was Josephine's first husband (born in Mississippi and legend says that he was a preacher), when did Josephine and Willoughby die, where was Lucinda, John, & Missouri born, etc. Any information would really be appreciated.  Contact Juanita Joyce Lewis , 30 Taft Ave., Lumberton, TX 77657, [email protected]

*STRATFORD

Looking for the BURIAL SITE of my ancestor THOMAS WESLEY STRATFORD. He died a bachelor in WINNIE, Chambers County, Texas in December 1897, at the age of 60. The exact day is unknown, as is the burial location. He was born Dec. 21, 1837 in Switzerland Co, Indiana, and he came to Jefferson County, probably Beaumont, about 1894 with his nephew FRANK B. STRATFORD. Another nephew WILLIAM R.J. STRATFORD came a few years later.

In 1894 Frank purchased 640 acres in Section 156 in Jefferson Co., near Winnie. In 1896 he sold it to Thomas. In turn, Thomas in his Will, a month before his death, gave back the land to Frank. At that time, they may have been living on the edge of Chambers or Jefferson County, near Winnie. After Thomas's death, the nephews continued to live in the area and in Beaumont until early 1900s when they moved to Houston.

I've checked many possible sources in Chambers & Jefferson Counties, with no results. Haven't searched newspapers or cemeteries. Don't know what's available. Contact Warren M. Anderson at [email protected].
