Hezekiah Parker Cemetery

Originally indexed by the late Mrs. Sallie Richards Whitton.  Genealogical data provided by Marion K. Parker.  Updated December 30, 2008 by Suzanne Sowell

This cemetery is in sad disrepair.  There are only 3 stones visible.  There are trees that were probably blown down by hurricanes' Rita and Ike. Some stones could be covered by those. This cemetery is on forestry land and gravesites have been marked with white pipe.

Directions:  Travel north on Hwy 147.  Turn on FM1279.  About .8 mile turn on an old dirt road and travel to a locked gate.  About .25 miles the cemetery is right about 100 yards from the old Hezekiah H. Parker home place.

The following information was provided by Marion K. Parker, grandson of Hezekiah Lamb Parker:

Hezekiah Lamb Parker and his first wife, Catherine Baxley, were the first to use this part of their farm as a cemetery.

Years ago when I visited the cemetery several times, there were wooden markers for some of the graves.  Of course those markers had almost rotted away by then.  The graves that were marked were:

1) Elizabeth Golden Parker (2 September 1933 -  12 November 1890) who married Jesse Parker 24 June 1852 in Marion County, Georgia.  She was the daughter of Gilleleah Golden and Epsie Burkhalter.  She was the mother of Hezekiah Lamb Parker, who married 1) Catherine Baxley and 2) Hortense Arnold; Harriet Connie Parker, who married Robin (Bob) Debose; Jesse Parker, who married Laura Whitten; and Ellace, who married John Passmore.

2) Hezekiah Lamb Parker (1 May 1853 - 2 April 1913)
"I have fought a good fight, I finished my course, I have kept the faith" was inscribed on the marker.

3) Catherine Parker (16 July 1851- 4 February 1897), married Hezekiah Lamb Parker 29 August 1872 in Barbour County, Alabama.  She was the daughter of James Baxley and Rebecca Hartzog.

Hezekiah and Catherine Parker were the parents of twelve children:

(Two died young.  I do not have their names.  They may be buried in this cemetery.  They could have died in Fayette County, Texas, where Hezekiah and Catherine first lived when they came to Texas.)

1)  Rebecca "Missy" Parker, who married John Hinton.  She is buried in Rocky Mount Cemetery in Robeline, Louisiana.

2) Mary Jane "Molly" Parker, who married 1) Jeff Davis Skinner and 2) Jake Gurdock.  She is buried in Sand Springs Cemetery, Mineola, Texas.

3) Zuorlena Parker, married 1) Jules C Arnold and 2) Melchizedek (Melton) Whitten.  she is buried in Brookland Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.

4) Olam Parker (O. L.), married Mary Peavy.  He is buried in Latham Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.

5) Bertha Parker, married William Oscar Peavy.  She is buried in Antioch Cemetery, San Augustine County, Texas.

6) Connie Parker, married John Washington Eaves.  She is buried in Jackson Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.

7) Jesse Lonan Parker, Sr, married Mary Buley.  He is buried in Smyrna Cemetery, DeSoto Parish, Louisiana.

8)  Dosha Parker, married 1) Homer Buley and 2) Unknown Hale.  She is buried in Duncan Cemetery, Rusk County, Texas.

9) Cora Parker, married Randolph Alfred Eaves.  She is buried in Louisiana.

10) Nancy Catherine Parker, married Frank Paul Pierce.  She is buried in O. E. Price Cemetery, DeSoto Parish, Louisiana.

Hezekiah Lamb (Ki, "Bud") Parker, Jr. (1901 - 17 March 1913) was the son of Hezekiah Lamb Parker, Sr, and Hortense Arnold.

Lora Lorraine was only a few months old when she died, probably around 1906.  She was the daughter of Hezekiah and Hortense.

The children of Hezekiah Lamb and Hortense Arnold were:

1) Estella Elizabeth Parker, who married Boner Jones.  She is buried in Shepherd City Cemetery, San Jacinto County, Texas.

2) Don William Parker, married Pearl Cumi Driggers.  He is buried in Restland Cemetery in Polk County, Texas.

3) Hezekiah, Jr. (above)

4) Judge Charles Rotte Parker "J C", married Bennie Childress.  He is buried in Jackson Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.

5) Lora Lorraine (Lorene) (above

6) Wade Unum Parker, married Nellie Goree Oliver.  He is buried in Shepherd City Cemetery, San Jacinto County, Texas.

7)  Hessie Kilamb Parker, married 1) Bertie Mildred Baxter and 2) Douglas Herrod.  He is buried in Shepherd City Cemetery, San Jacinto County, Texas.

(Hezekiah and Hortense had another child, but he died at birth.)

My grandfather was the father of 20 children.

Also buried in the cemetery are:

Mary Willard (March 1851 - after 1900).

D. C. and Delmar Whitten both had stones on their graves when I visited there last
