PAYNE

 

MRS. PAYNE RITES HERE WEDNESDAY

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday for Mrs. Maggie Cobb Payne,88, of San Augustine. Services were conducted at the Wyman Roberts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ben Pierce pastor of the First Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the City Cemetery with the Wyman Roberts Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Bob Roper, David Noble, M. B. McBride, Willie Ray Horn, Joe Bickley and Joe Akin. Mrs. Payne died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday in her home. She was a native of Sabine County and had lived in San Augustine for 58 years. She was a member of a prominent East Texas family. She was a daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Lafayette Cobb of Tebo. She was the widow of John W. Payne, a farmer and rancher and merchant in Sabine and San Augustine Counties. Mrs. Payne was a member of the Methodist Church and the Woman's Society of Christian Service. She was also a member of the San Augustine of the John Gillespie Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and twice served as Worthy Matron of that Lodge, in 1922 and again in 1936.Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. J.G. Shelton of Austin; one grandson, D. E. Morris of Iran, and two great grandchildren. NOTE: This is from a copy of the newspaper obit of Feb 18,1969

Daughter of Heamphill Couple Dies in B’mont

Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Rollins Pennington, 30, of Beaumont were held Thursday, October 31, at the Gravel Hill Church with the Rev. Clarence Howell, pastor of Hemphill Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in the Gravel Hill cemetery. Mrs. Pennington was found dead in her bed about 5:30 a.m. Oct. 29. Death was attributed to coronary thombosis. Survivors include her husband; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Robbins of Hemphill; two brothers, Drew Robbins and A. C. Robbins, both of Hemphill; six sisters, Mrs. Dewey Hardy of Kirbyville, Mrs. Joe C. Kelly, Mrs. Austin White, both of Hemphill; Mrs. Elmer McNeil of Warren, Mrs. H. C. Jones of Hillister and Mrs. Doyle McClure of Hillister.
