Fort Stockton (UP) Mrs. Ruth Hoover, 53, was freed Friday on $5,000 bond on charges of murder in the slaying of her husband, Rowden Hoover, 66.
The rancher was shot fatally with a rifle Thursday as he sat in a rocking chair in the living room of his home at Iraan, Sheriff Charlie N. Baker said.
Baker said the couple's 16-year-old daughter, Jimmy Kate Hoover, told officers the shooting followed a quarrel between her parents.
Mrs. Hoover was brought here by Deputy Sheriff Wayne Cummins. She was granted bond after waiving an examining trial before County Judge Dan Bihl. District Attorney Hart Johnson filed the charges.
Hoover ranched most of his life in Crockett county. The couple have one son and two daughters.
