Whitley Cemetery
"Directions: Drive up Ward Mountain W.N.W. of Brazos, Tex.
After you pass Dwight Chestnut house take the first well traveled road
gate on the right. follow this winding ranch road in a generally
northerly direction. After going through the third gate with
"No trespassing" sings you will come to the foot of the
mountain near the river. From that point take every usable right
turn until you see the cemetery on a sandy knoll in the woods. On
the 9th day of December 1974 it was clean and well cared for with a high
wire fence and a metal gate. All monuments but one are homemade,
and very neatly done. Graves not having names were marked at the
head and foot with sandstones and decorated with seashells and
artificial flowers. Most of them appear to be graves of
children. There are 18 graves including 9 unmarked graves. Census
was taken by Allen Ramsey." |
