Old Palo Pinto Cemetery
The census was taken by Bobby Watson and Ruth Lemons.
18 graves with markers and about that many without markers.

The Old Palo Pinto Cemetery is located about one mile south of town, and about 1/2 mile west of the present road to Lone Camp.  Located on the side of a sloping hill in a pasture owned at present by Jesse Turner, Jr.  It is a pretty spot - and has been fenced off many years ago by some residents of the area.  There are many high cedar trees and some old mesquites.  All or most of the stones have fallen down and are lying, we suppose, on the grave site.  Many are hand carved in native sandstone.  There are more unmarked graves than marked graves, and one wonders who they are.  We have been told recently that one of the early Palo Pinto County settlers is buried there after being killed by Indians -- but which one?

John Sullivan buried there was killed as a young man shortly after his marriage when a horse reared up with him, and fell back on top of him.  He was married to a half sister of Willie Cleveland.  She later moved to Oklahoma and remarried and reared a large family -- but none of them kept in touch with the family here.
