Cathy Ann McGaughy Costin

Cathy Ann McGaughy Costin, 63, of Amarillo died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, in Dallas.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Harold Petree, minister of education of First Baptist Church in Weatherford, Okla., officiating. Burial will be private.

Cathy was born Sept. 20, 1946, in Amarillo to Robert Samuel and Elizabeth Ann Collins McGaughy. She graduated from Tascosa High School(1965) and the Amarillo College dental hygienist program and attended West Texas State University.

She married James Costin on July 3, 1996, in Waurika, Okla.

Cathy loved horses, raising Arabians and participating in many show horse events and competitions. She co-owned Franklin Buggy Werkes in Florence, Kan., working on street rods and hot rods and restoring classic cars. She once drove a vintage car across the country in the Great American Race. She also co-owned FBW Hardware and an antiques store in Florence.

She was an avid gardener who could coax any plant to thrive and flourish. A tall beauty, Cathy also did modeling work, including advertising for Blackburn's. She was Miss Houston Colt Forty-Fives for two years running before the team became the Houston Astros. She studied her Bible faithfully and proved a valuable teacher to those who sought her counsel.

Cathy and James moved to Amarillo in 2001 so she could care for her parents.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother; her aunt and uncle, Catherine and George Irby; and a brother, Robert "Bob" McGaughy.

Survivors include her husband, James; a brother, Donny McGaughy and wife Terry of Fort Worth; a niece, Jayra Ray; two nephews, Sam McGaughy and Andy McGaughy; a sister-in-law, Jaton McGaughy; great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and her faithful companion, Foxy.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174
