-
Cecil Calvert Richards, born 11 Apr 1898, married about 1922
to Annie Hudspeth.
During the American Civil War Bud's family lived in
Carroll County, GA. One of his stories of this time was
of how the Yankee soldiers came to their home and poured
out the family's flour into the yard. He remembered his
Mother going out after the soldiers left and using a spoon
to scoop up as much of the flour as she could save so she'd
be able to feed her family.
Around 1890 - 1895 Bud moved his family to Nacogdoches
County, Texas and they settled in the Swift area. Many of Bud's
siblings and their families also came to Nacogdoches County
at this time and settled in Garrison and Cushing.
Bud became the minister at the Swift Baptist Church. He also
preached sometimes at Black Jack.
See Bud and Martha photo
probably taken at Swift Baptist Chruch. Martha is the lady on the
left in front of the building. Bud may be the man in the window or the
man in front of Martha. If he's the man in front of Martha he
had put on weight not seen in all other photos of him.
Bud often wore rubbers on his arms to hold his sleeves up.
He loved to fish and often went out looking for guineau nests.
Before his death Bud moved from his house nearby into the home
of the family of his daughter,
Dollie Fulmer, and his grand-daughter Ercille Fulmer Hudman
remembered he was always bringing home treats for her after his
visits to other family members.
Martha is remembered as one of the sweetest and kindest
people you could ever meet. In her later years she suffered from foot
problems developed due to diabetes.
- Martha died 27 June 1930 while staying with her daughter Emma
in Jacksonville, TX. Bud died on 30 July 1945. They are
buried together at the
Swift Cemetery,
Nacogdoches County, Texas.
