LOOKUPS OF NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TEXAS

lookups

To volunteer to do lookups please send a message to TXGenWeb Nacogdoches County Coordinator

TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL LOOK-UP REQUESTS

  1. Please send a message to the email address next to the resource you are interested in, with NACOGDOCHES LOOKUP in the Subject.
  2. EVERY county in the state of Texas has a Look-up area. You MUST limit your requests to Nacogdoches County.
  3. Please limit your request to one or two names at a time.
  4. It's courteous to send a 'Thank you' to the look-up volunteer.

Quick Tips for Productive Look-Up Requests
Please think about your look-up query. DON'T write "tell me everything about John Smith". Organize your query. Tell birthdates and death dates and birthplaces and death places, marriage dates and marriage places. Tell names of spouse(s) and children, and parents if known. If you do not know anything about your earliest ancestor, you probably know something about his/her children. Start there. Give the info on the children, then ask for any leads to more info on the parent(s). If you do not know anything at all about an ancestor, have you interviewed all living family members? Do you know approximately when that ancestor was married? Had children? Died? Give the mother 16+ years (in most cases) and the father approximately 20 yrs. Indicate when you are giving estimates -- but try to provide your volunteer researcher with a ballpark date. Was your grandmother born in Nacogdoches in 1820 or in 1920?  It makes a difference! If you just ask for information on your grandmother  who was born in Nacogdoches, we do not even know where to start.

1880 Texas,Alabama, Missouri, Mississippi and Louisiana Census Lookups, Link added Oct. 2002 - Barbara Payne has offered to do 1880 census lookups for the states listed at the left. Please be sure to give her enough information to easily find your family and don't forget to offer thanks for her generous donation of her time and resources.

Census Lookup Mail Lists--Link added Jan. 2003 https://sites.rootsweb.com/~censlook/ is a link to mail-lists where volunteers will do census lookups.

Civil War and Andersonville Lookups, by Kevin Frye
from the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors site, plus the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as "UNKNOWN." Also a CD which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. Kevin also visits the prison site every couple of weeks as a volunteer and has access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files.
