RAPE CEMETERY


The Rape Cemetery is located on private property east of FM 95 near CR 281 south of Garrison (GPS location taken by Texas Historical Commission, 20 August 2004). Permission of the property owner is required to visit the cemetery.

This transcript was made 20 August 2004 by Mr. Charles Brightwell. Every effort has been made to make an accurate transcription. On 20 August 2004 a member of the Texas Historical Commission and Mr. Charles Brightwell located the following markers with inscriptions:
Please notice the varying placement of Elizabeth Rape's initials. They are copied as they appear on the individual headstones.

son of Henry & E.S. Rape
Born: Henry County Georgia October 5, 1846 Died: March 14, 1881 (marble headstone broken, but legible)
Elizabeth Hancock
wife of Henry Rape
Born in Clarke County Georgia, April 6, 1825 Died July 20, 1883 Inscription: Her last words “Home Sweet Home, I’m almost there in heaven above there is no more suffon then ... [illegible].”

Charlie Rape
Son of Henry & S.E. Rape
Born: June 28, 1856 Died August 19, 1862 (marble headstone intact)
Henry Rape Born: March 17, 1819 Died: Feb. 2, 1890 (marble headstone intact)
Infant of Henry & E.S. Rape No Dates entered on headstone (marble headstone intact)
There are probably other family members buried in this location, but there are no visible indications that can be confirmed.
