Obituary
"The subject of this sketch was born in Overton County, Tenn, April 18 1844. Came with her parents to Nacogdoches in 1847 and lived in said county until her death which occurred January 7, 1901. Was married to J.J. Lewis December 11, 1865. The fruits of this union was eight children, three are dead and five living. Nancy E. Lewis{nee Campbell} joined the Presbyterian church when she was about 16 years old and lived a consistent Christian life until her death. Her health began to fail some twenty years ago, but the last three or four years of her life her suffering was intense, but she bore her sufferings with that patience and fortitude that none but the true Christian can do. She lived a true devoted Christian life both by precept and example. She was a kind and affectionate wife, a tender and loving mother, a true friend and a good neighbor. She was aware of her departure, and said that she was willing to meet death for Jesus was with her to lead and direct her through the chilly waters of death. Then weep not husband, children, neighbors and friends, for she is not dead but only sleepeth in the arms of Jesus. Oh, blessed sleep, from which none ever awake to weep. {Nancy E. Campbell Lewis, born 18 April 1844, died 7 January 1901, buried Rock Springs Cemetery}"
