Services for Mr.
Leonard R. Belyeu, 77, of Omaha were Saturday, October 13, 2001 at
Alexander Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Nolan Richey and Rev. Lanny
Peek officiating. Mr. Belyeu was born August 8, 1924 in Omaha. He
died Wednesday, October 10, 2001 in Longview. He served in the US
Army during World War II where he received the Purple Heart and the
Bronze Star. He was a welder, retired from Lone Star Steel after 39
years of service and drove a school bus for Paul Pewitt ISD for 10
years and a life member of DAV. He was a member and training union
secretary at the First Baptist Church of Omaha. He was preceded in
death by one son, Jerry Lynn Belyeu, Sr. Survivors include his
wife, Mildred Belyeu of Omaha; two daughters, Carolyn Burks and
husband Oscar of Omaha and Sandra K. Brown of Longview; one son, Don
Belyeu and wife Brenda of Daingerfield; seven grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Joe Bowers, Johnny
Joyner, Johnny Peek, Lonnie Burson Charles Kennedy and John Crane.

November 18, 2001 at Titus Regional Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant.
He was employed by Lone Star Steel Company. Survivors include his

23, 1955 in Naples. She died Friday, May 25, 2001 at her home. She
was a nurses� aide and a member of Norris S Curry CME Church.

grandchildren and a number of aunts, uncles, nephews and other

died Friday, August 3, 2001 at Titus Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services were scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 5
at Bates-Cooper Chapel. Officiating was Bro. Steve Mathis.
Interment was in Concord Cemetery in Morris County. Pallbearers
Ronny Reynolds, Jim Doss, Harold Derrick, Butch Petty and Terry
Shurtleff. Born January 23, 1905 in Mount Pleasant, Mrs. Blagg was
retired as an inspector with Schrader Sewing Factory. She was a
member of the Church of God of Prophecy. Survivors include a son,
Sidney Doss of Omaha; daughter, Edith Brown of Cookville; daughter
and son-in-law Virginia and Robert Laney of Cookville; two stepsons,
George H. Boots Walker of Mt. Pleasant and Hoyt Walker of Amarillo;
11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and
nephew. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Shurtleff,
four grandchildren, one great grandchild and one brother. |

2004 in Ft. Worth. He was a paint and body shop manager for The
Western Company for 30 years, ranched in Sonora and the El Dorado
area, was ranch foreman of the Upton Ranch in San Angelo and was a
member of Ridglea Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughter
and son-in-law, Ann and David Gardner of Salado; granddaughters,
Terri Willingham of Dallas, Merri Corbett and husband, Lee of
Sewickley, PA, grandson, Loren Gardner and wife, Tanya, of Houston;
two grandsons, Lane and Reid Corbett, and sister, Nee Bricker of
Dublin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sibyl, on January 13,
1989; and his great-granddaughter, Sadie Corbett. Interment was at

Center in Longview. He was a retired public works director for the

officer of the Naples Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years,
and served as president of the Northeast Texas Water Utilities
Association. He was a lifetime resident of Naples. Survivors
include his wife, Mary Joyce Dodson of Naples; two sons and a
daughter-in-law, Mike Dodson of Naples, and Mark and Danette Dodson
of Greenville; one brother, Morris Craig of Naples; three sisters,
Frances Phillips of Sulphur Springs, Charlene Craig of Naples, and

was born July 10, 1925 in Wills Point. He died Friday, January 26, 2001
in Longview. He married Joyce Old on June 23, 1950. He was a member of
the First United Methodist Church, a veteran of the United States Navy
and served during World War II. In 1947 he attended the Dallas
Institute of Mortuary Science. In 1949 he and his father, Robert,
established the Nail-Haggard Funeral Home. He had a long record of
community service. He served as member of the board of stewards of the
First United Methodist Church, city mayor from 1960 to 1978 continued to
serve as councilman from 1980 to 1983, and served as city judge and city
representative on the North Texas Municipal Water District. He served
on the Board of Texas Funeral Directors Association, was president of
the East Texas Funeral Directors Association, served as director for
Funeral Services, Inc. and was chosen Funeral Director of the Your for
East Texas and the state of Texas in 1991. He enjoyed raising polled
Hereford cattle and was a member of the American Polled Hereford
Association, member of the Daingerfield Lions Club and Oasis Masonic
Lodge, member and past president of Beaver Brook Country Club, and
announced the Daingerfield Tigers football games for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Nail of Daingerfield; two sons and
daughters-in-law Bryant and Kim Nail of Dallas and Roy J. and Mary Nail
of Daingerfield; two sisters Bobbie Harkrider of Daingerfield and Polly

restoration of downtown Daingerfield, a member and past president of
several other civic organizations and member of the city planning and

Smith, 76, of Mount Pleasant, were Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at
Bates Cooper Chapel with the Reverends Steve Newton and Dr.
Cecil McLeod officiating. Mr. Smith was born September 27, 1924
in Omaha, the son of Marvin and Ethel Clayton Smith. He died
Monday, March 5, 2001 at his home. He graduated from Omaha High
School in 1941 and received his formal education through LaSalle
Business institute and other correspondence schools. J. D.
served with the U. S. Navy in World War II, getting honorable
discharged in May 1946 with the rating of SK2/C. He married
Jean Harvey on May 28, 1946. J. D. served as cubmaster and
scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts of America, served on the board of
directors for the scouts, served as elder and deacon at his
church in Collinsville, Indiana and Joshua. He retired from
Chickasha Cotton Oil Company as vice-president in 1990. He ws a
member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant, was
an avid fisherman, loved bowling, country-western music and
dancing. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, 10 months and
four days, Jean Smith of Mount Pleasant; one son and
daughter-in-law, Tim and Jan Smith and two grandsons, Colte and
Paden Smith, all of Burleson; one sister Johnnie Mae Parker of
Omaha and many friends, nieces and nephews. Interment was at
Concord Cemetery. |

Richard Towler, 78, of Naples were Friday, February 23, 2001 at
Naples First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Joe Dan Perkins
officiating. Mr. Towler was born January 16, 1923 in Naples.
He died Wednesday, February 23, 2001 in Mt. Pleasant. He was a
retired master electrician from IBEW. He was a member of the
Belden Masonic Lodge where he served as worshipful master and a
member of the Order of the Eastern Star where he had served as
Worthy Patron. He served in World War II as a paratrooper in
the 117th airborne combat engineer�s battalion. He
saw Hostile action in the Battle of the Bulge where he was
wounded and received the Purple Heart. Among his decorations
were the Presidential Unit citation with two oak leaf clusters.
He also received the European service medal, good conduct medal,
combat infantryman badge along with the European Occupational
metal. He was a longtime resident of Naples. Survivors include
his wife, Merle Towler of Naples; one son Rick Towler of Lufkin;
one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Trent Whatley of Dallas;
one daughter-in-law, Sondra Towler of Naples; two sisters,
Frances Foster of Omaha and Emma Wright of Tyler; four
grandsons, Jeff and wife Shelly Towler and Kevin Towler of
Naples, Mark Towler of Lufkin and Jon Icenhower of Grapevine;
two granddaughters Kristi Towler of Austin and Kristi Reeves of
Rowlett and two great-granddaughters Mikah Towler of Naples and
Aubrey Icenhower of Rockwall. He was preceded in death by one

Dr. Charles J. Wise,
88, of Naples, died Monday, August 13, 2001 in Mount Pleasant. Mr.
Wise was born April 8, 1913 in Jefferson. He was a retired
physician in Naples, where he served as a doctor from 1948 until
1982. He was instrumental in the opening of the David Granbury
Memorial Hospital and the East Texas Clinic in Naples. He was a
member of the Episcopal Church and a charter member of the Paul
Pewitt School Board. It was a special day for Dr. Wise on Saturday,
July 30, 1994, when Naples honored him as the grand marshal for the
annual Naples Watermelon Festival parade. He obtained his
bachelor�s degree from Louisiana State University I Baton Rouge, and
earned his M.D. from LSU Medical Center in New Orleans. After an
internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, he served three
residency stints at E. A. Conway, Huey P. Long and Independence
Hospitals, and was then assigned as medical director of the
Louisiana State Penal System. In 1948, he was employed by Doctors
Good, Parsons and Jones to open the David Granberry Memorial
Hospital at Naples, with Dr. James S. Leeves, Bess Poer Jones and
Verba Bradford Heath. He continued his medical practice at the
hospital and East Texas Clinic until his retirement in the early
1980s. Survivors include his wife, Ann B. Wise of Naples; three
sons, Doug Wise of Austin, Tom Wise of Midlothian and Tim Wise of
Liverpool, England; three daughters, Betty Grace Wise Grames of
Houston, Mary Margaret Harvey and Susan Wise of Jefferson; two
stepsons, David Fulcher of Naples and Gordon Ray Fulcher of Sulphur
Springs; one stepdaughter, Kay Fulcher Carter of San Antonio; eight
grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by
his first wife, Olive and a son, Richard. |
