Belyeu, Leonard Ranes

BELYEU, LEONARD RANES                                                                     August 8, 1924 � October 10, 2001

Services for Mr. Leonard R. Belyeu, 77, of Omaha were Saturday, October 13, 2001 at Alexander Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Nolan Richey and Rev. Lanny Peek officiating.  Mr. Belyeu was born August 8, 1924 in Omaha.  He died Wednesday, October 10, 2001 in Longview.  He served in the US Army during World War II where he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.  He was a welder, retired from Lone Star Steel after 39 years of service and drove a school bus for Paul Pewitt ISD for 10 years and a life member of DAV.  He was a member and training union secretary at the First Baptist Church of Omaha.  He was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Lynn Belyeu, Sr.  Survivors include his wife, Mildred Belyeu of Omaha; two daughters, Carolyn Burks and husband Oscar of Omaha and Sandra K. Brown of Longview; one son, Don Belyeu and wife Brenda of Daingerfield; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  Pallbearers were Joe Bowers, Johnny Joyner, Johnny Peek, Lonnie Burson Charles Kennedy and John Crane.  Interment was at Omaha Cemetery.  (K Row 6 BL 19)

Betts, Lawrence Sr.

Services for Mr. Lawrence Betts Sr., 73, of Naples were Saturday, November 24, 2001 at Reeder-Davis Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Melvin Hancock officiating.  Mr. Betts was born December 4, 1927 in Morris County.  He died Sunday, November 18, 2001 at Titus Regional Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant.  He was employed by Lone Star Steel Company.  Survivors include his wife, Clifford Betts of Naples; three sons, Lawrence Betts Jr., Michael Betts and Darrell Betts, all of Naples; two daughters, Tracy Betts and Brenda Whetstone, both of Naples; two brothers, Wendell Betts of Hughes Springs and Colby Betts of San Antonio; 16 grandchildren and host of other relatives and friends.  Burial was at Reynolds Cemetery. Black, Veretta Faye

Services for Miss Veretta Faye Black, 45, of Naples will be conducted today, Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at 11 am at Norris S. Curry CME Church with the Rev. Harold Wright, Jr. officiating.  Miss Black was born August 23, 1955 in Naples.  She died Friday, May 25, 2001 at her home.  She was a nurses� aide and a member of Norris S Curry CME Church.  Survivors include her parents, Will Ella White of Naples and George D. Black of Omaha; four sons; five brothers, four sisters; two grandchildren and a number of aunts, uncles, nephews and other relatives.  Burial will be at Morning Star Cemetery.   (Location Unknown)

Blagg, Lena Walker Lena Walker Blagg, 96, of Cookville died Friday, August 3, 2001 at Titus Regional Medical Center.  Graveside services were scheduled  for 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 5 at Bates-Cooper Chapel.  Officiating was Bro. Steve Mathis.  Interment was in Concord Cemetery in Morris County.  Pallbearers  Ronny Reynolds, Jim Doss, Harold Derrick, Butch Petty and Terry Shurtleff.  Born January 23, 1905 in Mount Pleasant, Mrs. Blagg was retired as an inspector with Schrader Sewing Factory.  She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.  Survivors include a son, Sidney Doss of Omaha; daughter, Edith Brown of Cookville; daughter and son-in-law Virginia and Robert Laney of Cookville; two stepsons, George H. Boots Walker of Mt. Pleasant and Hoyt Walker of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephew.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Shurtleff, four grandchildren, one great grandchild and one brother.
Bolin, Hazel Robinson

BOLIN, HAZEL ROBINSON                                                                       December 24, 1905 � January 22, 2001

Services for Mrs. Hazel Robinson Bolin, 95, of Omaha were Thursday, January 25, 2001 at Alexander Chapel with the Reverend Neal Thornburgh officiating.  Mrs. Bolin was born December 24, 1905 in Omaha.  She died Monday, January 22, 2001 at Sun Bridge Healthcare and Rehabilitation for Omaha.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a longtime resident of Omaha.  She was a former resident of Houston.  Survivors include her husband, Pete M. Bolin of Omaha; one son David Bolin of Houston; one sister, Maxine Davis of Huntsville; three granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria Bolin Bennett. Pallbearers were Jim Burnett, Dennis Browning, Dave Owens, Don Dorsett, Kyle Owens and Dustin Browning.  Burial was in Loving Cemetery.  (Location Unknown)

Graveside services for Mrs. Annie Mae Boozer, 83, of Houston, were Monday, May 21, 2001 at Omaha Cemetery with the Reverend Rodney Richey officiating.  Mrs. Boozer was born January 5, 1918 in Marinanna, Florida.  She died Wednesday, May 16, 2001 in Houston.  She was a member of the Omaha First Baptist Church and former resident of Omaha.  Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Carolyn Boozer of Houston; two grandsons, Mark and Kasandra Boozer and Dr. Kent and Stephanie Boozer, all of Dallas and three great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Services for Mr. Morris E. Bricker, 88, of Ft. Worth, were Thursday, July 5, 2001 in the Drawing Room of Thompson�s Harveson & Cole Funeral Home with Dr. Billie Hanks officiating.  Mr. Bricker was born April 14, 1913 in Sonora.  He died Monday, July 2, 2004 in Ft. Worth.  He was a paint and body shop manager for The Western Company for 30 years, ranched in Sonora and the El Dorado area, was ranch foreman of the Upton Ranch in San Angelo and was a member of Ridglea Baptist Church.  Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Ann and David Gardner of Salado; granddaughters, Terri Willingham of Dallas, Merri Corbett and husband, Lee of Sewickley, PA, grandson, Loren Gardner and wife, Tanya, of Houston; two grandsons, Lane and Reid Corbett, and sister, Nee Bricker of Dublin.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Sibyl, on January 13, 1989; and his great-granddaughter, Sadie Corbett.  Interment was at Wilder Cemetery.  (A Row 15)

Cecil McLeod officiating.  Mr. Campbell was born Nov. 24, 1914 in Cass Co.  He died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001 at his home.  He was retired from Lone Star Steel, a cattleman, rancher, farmer and former deacon in the Rocky Branch Baptist Church.  Survivors include his wife, Lucille Barnard Campbell of Rocky Branch; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Wayne and Peggy Campbell of Daingerfield and Harrell Gene Campbell of Lake of the Pines; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one daughter, Joann.  Interment was at Spring Hill Cemetery.  (NE Row 12)

Joe Perkins officiating.  Mrs. Carlton was born July 16, 1914 in Naples.  She died Saturday, July 21, 2001 in Mt. Pleasant.  She was a retired employee of Day & Zimmerman, member of the First Baptist Church and a lifetime resident of Naples.  Survivors include three grandchildren, Bruce Lancaster of Baltimore, MD, Andrea Lancaster of Houston and Michael Lancaster of Baytown; and two great-grandchildren, Michelle and Alex Lancaster of Baytown.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude, and her children, Claudette and Tommy.  Interment was at Naples Cemetery.  (Sec A Row 9)

Carpenter, Floyd Kelly Services for Mr. Floyd Kelly Carpenter, 66, of Omaha were Friday, March 23, 2001 at Concord Baptist Church with the Reverends Nolan Richey, Glen Griffith and Glen Moore officiating.  Mr. Carpenter was born January 28, 1935 in Omaha.  He died Tuesday, March 20, 2001 in Texarkana.  He was a retired employee of Red River Army Depot, a member of the Concord Baptist Church and a lifetime resident of Omaha.   Survivors include his wife, Carol Higgins Carpenter of Omaha; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lance and Katy Carpenter of Omaha and Floyd and Vanessa Carpenter of Gilmer; four grand-children, Zachary Carpenter of Omaha, Brittany Carpenter, Christopher Carpenter and Olivia Carpenter of Gilmer; three brothers, Velta C. Carpenter of Cookville, James M. Carpenter of Naples and Charles L. Carpenter of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two sisters, Maxine Keene of Omaha and Pauline Barfield of New Boston and a number of nieces and nephew.  Interment was at Concord Cemetery.    Pallbearers were nephews James L. Carpenter, Craig Carpenter, Dane Carpenter, Clay Higgins, Thomas Higgins, Aaron Holman, Mark Knight, Ronnie Hicks and friend Norman Harwood.

Dale Hunt officiating.  Mrs. Davis was born October 24, 1910 in Omaha.  She died Monday, May 28, 2001 in Huntsville.  She was a retired teacher having taught 41 years, a member of the First Baptist Church of Omaha and Delta Kappa Gamma and was a lifetime resident of Omaha.  Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Ennis Hawkins of Huntsville; one brother-in-law, P. M. Bolin; two sisters-in-law, Lorene Davis and Lura Walker, all of Omaha; three grandsons and two granddaughters-in-law, Donald and Kelly Hawkins and Brian and Sandy Hawkins, all of Georgetown and David Hawkins of Houston and three great-grandsons.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Davis, and one daughter, Linda Lee Davis.  Interment will be at Omaha Cemetery.    (F Row 3)

Joe Dan Perkins officiating.  Mrs. Dodson was born January 10, 1929 in Omaha.  She died Monday, March 12, 2001 in Mt. Pleasant.  She was retired from Nortex Press, a member of the First Baptist Church of Naples, and a lifetime resident of the Naples and Omaha area.  Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Mike Dodson of Naples and Mark and Danette Dodson of Greenville; five grandchildren, Shane Dodson, Jason Dodson and Cory Dodson, all of Naples, Tamara Dodson of Mt. Pleasant and Ashley Dodson of Greenville; one sister, Faye Iles of DeRitter, LA and a number of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Services for W. L. (Doc) Dodson, 75, of Naples, were at 2 pm, Wednesday, January 3, 2001 at the First Baptist Church of Naples, with the Rev. Joe Dan Perkins officiating.  Mr. Dodson was born March 20, 1925, in Naples.  He died Monday, January 1, 2001 at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview.  He was a retired public works director for the City of Naples, a member of the First Baptist Church, a member and officer of the Naples Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years, and served as president of the Northeast Texas Water Utilities Association.  He was a lifetime resident of Naples.  Survivors include his wife, Mary Joyce Dodson of Naples; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mike Dodson of Naples, and Mark and Danette Dodson of Greenville; one brother, Morris Craig of Naples; three sisters, Frances Phillips of Sulphur Springs, Charlene Craig of Naples, and Iris Russell of Ft. Worth; five grandchildren, Michael Shane Dodson, Jason Dodson and Cory Dodson, all of Naples; Tamara Dodson of Mt. Pleasant, and Ashley Dodson of Greenville; and two great-grandchildren.  Serving as pallbearers were Gerald Hampton, Bobby Whetstone, John Crabtree, Jerry Hearn, Joe Dossett and Billy Crocker.  Services were under the direction of Alexander Funeral Service of Naples and interment was in the Omaha Cemetery.  (H Row 2)

Services for Mr. Roy A. Nail, 75, of Daingerfield were Sunday, January 28, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church with Brother Norman Miller, Rev. Scott Darby, and Rev. David McKay officiating.  Mr. Nail was born July 10, 1925 in Wills Point.  He died Friday, January 26, 2001 in Longview.  He married Joyce Old on June 23, 1950.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II.  In 1947 he attended the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science.  In 1949 he and his father, Robert, established the Nail-Haggard Funeral Home.  He had a long record of community service.  He served as member of the board of stewards of the First United Methodist Church, city mayor from 1960 to 1978 continued to serve as councilman from 1980 to 1983, and served as city judge and city representative on the North Texas Municipal Water District.  He served on the Board of Texas Funeral Directors Association, was president of the East Texas Funeral Directors Association, served as director for Funeral Services, Inc. and was chosen Funeral Director of the Your for East Texas and the state of Texas in 1991.  He enjoyed raising polled Hereford cattle and was a member of the American Polled Hereford Association, member of the Daingerfield Lions Club and Oasis Masonic Lodge, member and past president of Beaver Brook Country Club, and announced the Daingerfield Tigers football games for many years.  Survivors include his wife, Joyce Nail of Daingerfield; two sons and daughters-in-law Bryant and Kim Nail of Dallas and Roy J. and Mary Nail of Daingerfield; two sisters Bobbie Harkrider of Daingerfield and Polly Thomas of Orange; four grandchildren Connor Nail of Dallas, Kyle, Brent and Rebecca nail, all of Daingerfield.  Burial was in Daingerfield Cemetery.  (Location Unknown)

John Stone officiating.  Mr. Perkison was born August 30, 1911 in Magnolia, AR.  He died Monday, May 28, 2001 in Daingerfield.  He was a trustee and member of First Baptist Church.  He founded Perkison�s Jewelry in 1953, served as mayor pro-tem, served for several years as a Daingerfield city councilman, was named Daingerfield Citizen of the Year in 1983, was past president of the Chamber of Commerce, was instrumental in building restoration of downtown Daingerfield, a member and past president of several other civic organizations and member of the city planning and zoning committee.  Survivors include his wife, Thelma Perkison of Daingerfield; son and daughter-in-law, William K. and Pat Perkison of Belton; daughter and son-in-law, Betty Dawn Perkison Weir and Tim Weir of Daingerfield; three grandsons, Brett Perkison of Houston, Brannon Perkison of Dallas and Bryan Griffin of Portland, OR; two granddaughters, Leslie Dawn Phillips of Arlington, Alison Weir of Daingerfield; great granddaughter, Caroline Perkison of Houston and one sister, Maureen Perkison Harris of Houston.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Muriel Kennedy Perkison in 1991.  Burial was at Daingerfield Cemetery.  (TUR Ser Row 42)

Jim Palmer officiating.  Mr. Simon was born January 20, 1946 in Marietta, OK.  He died Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at University of Texas Health Center in Tyler.  He retired from Texas instruments after 30 years of service.  He was an elder and member of Life Tabernacle Assembly of God Church.  Survivors include his wife, Laquetta Simon of Naples; four sons and one daughter-in-law Ralph Edward and Gena Simon, Emanuel Simon, Samuel Simon and Nathan Simon all of Naples; seven daughters and two sons-in-law Tami and Clint Ferguson, Sr. of Itasca, Lora and Kelly Sargent of Mt. Pleasant, Cheryl Roten of Mt. Simpson, Montie E. Talley Montie E. Talley Simpson, 87, of Naples died Monday, April 9, 2001 in Omaha, Texas.  Mrs. Simpson was born October 4, 1913 in Omaha.  She was a member of Naples First Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Simpson.  Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Betty Simpson of Naples; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail  and Arthur Guy Womack of Marietta, Texas and Sue and Doug Robison of Omaha; one sister Annie Mae Gilstrap of Omaha; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.  Services will be at 2:00 p.m. today at Concord Baptist Church with the Revs. Glen Griffith, Nolan Richey and Neal Thornburgh officiating.  Burial will be in Concord Cemetery under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home.
Smith, James David "Jim" Services for James David (Jim) Smith, 76, of Mount Pleasant, were Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at Bates Cooper Chapel with the Reverends Steve Newton and Dr. Cecil McLeod officiating.  Mr. Smith was born September 27, 1924 in Omaha, the son of Marvin and Ethel Clayton Smith.  He died Monday, March 5, 2001 at his home.  He graduated from Omaha High School in 1941 and received his formal education through LaSalle Business institute and other correspondence schools.  J. D. served with the U. S. Navy in World War II, getting honorable discharged in May 1946 with the rating of SK2/C.  He married Jean Harvey on May 28, 1946.  J. D. served as cubmaster and scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts of America, served on the board of directors for the scouts, served as elder and deacon at his church in Collinsville, Indiana and Joshua.  He retired from Chickasha Cotton Oil Company as vice-president in 1990.  He ws a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant, was an avid fisherman, loved bowling, country-western music and dancing.  Survivors include his wife of 54 years, 10 months and four days, Jean Smith of Mount Pleasant; one son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Jan Smith and two grandsons, Colte and Paden Smith, all of Burleson; one sister Johnnie Mae Parker of Omaha and many friends, nieces and nephews.  Interment was at Concord Cemetery.

Tim Edwards officiating.  Mr. Stallings was born may 4, 1918, in Smith County.  He died Saturday, February 3, 2001, in a Dallas hospital.  He was a retired lab technician at David Granberry memorial Hospital, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Naples, a member of the Belden Masonic Lodge and a veteran of World War II.  He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Cecil, Hershel and Bryant; and a sister, Bonnie Grace Stallings.  Survivors include his wife, Pauline Stallings of Naples; a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Jill Stallings of Carrolton, TX; a daughter and son-in-law, Paul and Tom Yost of Yantis, TX; one sister, Laura Lloyd of Tyler; and four grandchildren.  (Location Unknown)

Stevens, Annie Cleora Annie Cleora Stevens, 98, of Daingerfield died Thursday, April 5, 2001 in Daingerfied.  Mrs. Stevens was born April 5, 1902, in Concord community.  She was a homemaker and a member of Concord Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband Audie James Stevens, and two sons, Billy Joe Stevens and Wendell James Stevens.  Survivors include one son and two daughters-in-law, Thomas Ray and Betty Stevens of Daingerfield and Mary Otis Stevens of Fort Worth, Texas; eight granddaughters; two grandsons; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in Concord Cemetery with the Rev. Nolan Richey officiating.  Burial will be under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral Home.

Services for Mr. Richard Towler, 78, of Naples were Friday, February 23, 2001 at Naples First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Joe Dan Perkins officiating.  Mr. Towler was born January 16, 1923 in Naples.  He died Wednesday, February 23, 2001 in Mt. Pleasant.  He was a retired master electrician from IBEW.  He was a member of the Belden Masonic Lodge where he served as worshipful master and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star where he had served as Worthy Patron.  He served in World War II as a paratrooper in the 117th airborne combat engineer�s battalion.  He saw Hostile action in the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart.  Among his decorations were the Presidential Unit citation with two oak leaf clusters.  He also received the European service medal, good conduct medal, combat infantryman badge along with the European Occupational metal.  He was a longtime resident of Naples.  Survivors include his wife, Merle Towler of Naples; one son Rick Towler of Lufkin; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Trent Whatley of Dallas; one daughter-in-law, Sondra Towler of Naples; two sisters, Frances Foster of Omaha and Emma Wright of Tyler; four grandsons, Jeff and wife Shelly Towler and Kevin Towler of Naples, Mark Towler of Lufkin and Jon Icenhower of Grapevine; two granddaughters Kristi Towler of Austin and Kristi Reeves of Rowlett and two great-granddaughters Mikah Towler of Naples and Aubrey Icenhower of Rockwall.  He was preceded in death by one son, Mike Towler.  Interment was at Omaha Cemetery.  (K Row 3 BL 25)

Pleasant.  He was retired from Daingerfield-Lone Star ISD and was a member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeannie Ruth Turner.  Survivors include his wife, Beverly Turner of Marshall; one son, Edward Charles Turner of Longview; four step-sons; two step-daughters; his mother, Louella Grant Turner of Omaha; four brothers, L. W.and Willie R of Omaha, Willie J of Cason, and Arthur M of Mt. Pleasant; and three sisters, Shirley A Traylor of Mt. Services for Mrs. Ermaline Byrd Wilkerson,  75, of Naples were Saturday, August 18, 2001 at Williams Chapel Baptist Church.  Mrs. Wilkerson was born October 12, 1925 to the late Mike Byrd and Codella Williams Byrd in Morris County.  She died Sunday, August 12, 2001.  She united with Williams Chapel Baptist Church at an early age and attended George Washington Carver in Naples.  Survivors include eleven children, Mike Byrd, Larry Byrd, Jimmie Byrd, Tobie Byrd and Zebbie D. Heath, all of Naples, Mary Turner of Pasco, WA, Dorothy Tyler, Milton Wilkerson, Randy Wilkerson and Sammie Wilkerson, all of Dallas, Billie Wilkerson of Longview; special friend, Ell Willa Cobbins; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her father, mother, three sisters and two brothers.  Interment was at Spring Hill Cemetery.  (BL Sec Row ? )

Williams, Chloie Story Chloie Story Williams 91, of Mount Pleasant died Saturday morning, June 9, 2001 at East Texas Medical Center in Pittsburg, Texas.  Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 11 at Bates-Cooper Funeral Home Chapel.  Larry Bilbo and Bob Arnold officiated.  Internment was in Concord Cemetery near Omaha.  Pallbearers were Rick Harris, Billy Ayers,  Doyce Martin, Troy Gibbs, Burton Neugent and James Johnson.  Honorary pallbearers were Weldon Miller, M. J. Barnard, Clayton Bellamy and O. L. Copeland.  Chloie Williams was born February 28, 1910 in Cookville, the daughter of Lula Wall Story and Charlie S. Story.
Wise, Charles J.

WISE, DR. CHARLES J.                                                                                                 April 8, 1913 � August 13, 2001

Dr. Charles J. Wise, 88, of Naples, died Monday, August 13, 2001 in Mount Pleasant.  Mr. Wise was born April 8, 1913 in Jefferson.  He was a retired physician in Naples, where he served as a doctor from 1948 until 1982.  He was instrumental in the opening of the David Granbury Memorial Hospital and the East Texas Clinic in Naples.  He was a member of the Episcopal Church and a charter member of the Paul Pewitt School Board.  It was a special day for Dr. Wise on Saturday, July 30, 1994, when Naples honored him as the grand marshal for the annual Naples Watermelon Festival parade.  He obtained his bachelor�s degree from Louisiana State University I Baton Rouge, and earned his M.D. from LSU Medical Center in New Orleans.  After an internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, he served three residency stints at E. A. Conway, Huey P. Long and Independence Hospitals, and was then assigned as medical director of the Louisiana State Penal System.  In 1948, he was employed by Doctors Good, Parsons and Jones to open the David Granberry Memorial Hospital at Naples, with Dr. James S. Leeves, Bess Poer Jones and Verba Bradford Heath.  He continued his medical practice at the hospital and East Texas Clinic until his retirement in the early 1980s.  Survivors include his wife, Ann B. Wise of Naples; three sons, Doug Wise of Austin, Tom Wise of Midlothian and Tim Wise of Liverpool, England; three daughters, Betty Grace Wise Grames of Houston, Mary Margaret Harvey and Susan Wise of Jefferson; two stepsons, David Fulcher of Naples and Gordon Ray Fulcher of Sulphur Springs; one stepdaughter, Kay Fulcher Carter of San Antonio; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Olive and a son, Richard.
