Pioneer Citizen of Omaha Passes Away

J. J. Boozer, well known citizen of Omaha, passed away at the Naples hospital Wednesday evening, December 3, after a long illness.  Funeral rites were held at 2:30 pm Friday at the Concord Baptist Church.  Officiating ministers were Rev. A. J. Finley, Rev. H. L. McNish and Rev. T. P. Lee.  Interment was made in the Concord Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Jim Fields, Earven Vaught, Clive Knight, Mack Walker, W. E. Swint, A. F. Morris, H. D. Belyeu, and Ross Rivers.  A native of Jackson Co., AL, Mr. Boozer was born April 6, 1872.  On August 27, 1893, he was married to Miss Emma Allen, and in February 1894, they came to Omaha to make their home.  He was one of the first rural carriers to serve the Omaha area, and served in this capacity for a number of years.  He was a tax assessor-collector for the Omaha School District several years, and was actively interested in the work on his farm as long as his health permitted.  He joined the Concord Baptist Church in 1914.  Survivors are his widow; four daughters, Mrs. Burl Morris and Miss Fronie Boozer, Omaha; Miss Dora Boozer, Dallas, and Mrs. W. W. Branch, Longview; six sons, Roy, Troy, and Allen, Omaha; Willie, Ajo, AZ; Howard, Dallas, and Curtis, Longview; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. J. D. Wellborn of Wingate, and many other relatives and friends.  Among the many relatives and friends attending the funeral services for J. J. Boozer on Friday afternoon of last week were:  Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Boozer, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Branch and Mary Jon, Mr. and Mrs. Wilburn Martin, Ouida and Roger, Rev. and Mrs. C. L. Porter,  Travis Bearers, S. G. Miley, J. O. Sisk, R. W. Plieler, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Abernathy, and Mrs. L. T. Williams, all of Longview; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Justiss, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Allen and children, Mr. and Mrs. Hull Horton, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Allen, Mrs. Letha Compton, G. H. Riddle, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Doc Talley, all of Mt. Pleasant; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hartsfield, and Mrs. W. H. Boozer of Caddo; Mr. and Mrs. Willie Boozer and Jean, Mrs. Leon Dodd, Sharon and Mike, of Ajo, AZ; Elder C. W. Gilbreath and H. T. Gilbreath of Como; Howard O. Boozer and Sonny, Miss Dora Boozer, Miss Frankie Steelman, and J. B. Boozer, all of Dallas; Vanoy Boozer of Fort Worth; Mr. and Mrs. Hill Collins, Whitney; Rev. and Mrs. A. A. Spence, Pittsburg; Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Jones, Corsicana; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Boozer, Houston; Mr. and Mrs. Zemry Boozer and children, Goodland; A 1-c and Mrs. Bobby Boozer and daughter, Harlingen; Elder and Mrs. Odell Rhine and daughter, Hughes Springs, Mr. and Mrs. Randall Galloway, of Commerce; Mrs. Martin of DeKalb; Mr. and Mrs. Billy Morris and children, and many others from Naples.  (Row 26 SE)
