Talley, Jefferson Davis

TALLEY, JEFFERSON DAVIS                                                                   March 23, 1860 -- December 12, 1928

     Jeff Davis Talley was born in Jackson County, Ala., March 23, 1860 and was married to Miss Emma Edwards in 1882.  They were the parents of 8 daughters and four sons, four of whom died early in life.  He had been a member of the church since 1880.  

     They had lived in this country after coming west for several years, but had moved to Oklahoma and were living near Wewolka.  He came here (Omaha) a few weeks ago to attend the funeral of his son in law, S. O. Walker and while here contracted influenza and later pneumonia developed causing his death at the home of his brother, R. L. Talley, December 12.  His body was held until the 14th to give his wife and children and brother time to get here from Oklahoma when interment was made in Concord cemetery after funeral services by Elder J. S. Caldwell in the presence of a concourse relatives and friends.

     He leaves his wife and children and three brothers, besides many close friends here and in Oklahoma who join them in sorrow.  (SE Row 15A)

Talley, Viola Emeline

TALLEY, VIOLA EMELINE                                                                       November 7, 1907 � December 12, 1928

Death of Miss Viola Talley

     Miss Viola, 21 year old daughter of D. J. Talley and wife, died at the family home five miles west of Omaha on the 12th of December of appendicitis a short while after undergoing an operation. 

     She was an active, promising young lady; had finished her education in Omaha and Mt. Pleasant high schools, and was teaching this year at Lone Star where she had a good school and lots of friends who will miss her work for the school and the upbuilding of the community. 

     Her remains were laid away in Concord cemetery on the 13th after funeral services by Elder W. B. Robertson.  She leaves a sorrowing father and mother; several brothers, and many near relatives to mourn her going away, and the Breeze joins with a host of friends in sorrow and sympathy for the bereaved ones in these sad, trying hours.  (SE Row 18)
