Farrier, Henry

FARRIER, Henry, M.D.                                                                                   March 9, 1823 -- October 8, 1900

HENRY FARRIER, M.D., a physician and surgeon of Omaha, Morris County, Texas, was born in :Duplin County, North Carolina, March 9, 1823, a son of William Farrier, and a grandson of John Farrier, a native of Ireland, who came to America at an early day and settled in North Carolina.  William Farrier was married in 1801 to Miss Anna Sandling.  They lived in North Carolina until 1832, when they moved to Alabama where Mr. Farrier died in 1843.  They had a family of ten children--Martha, John, James, David, Hugh, Mary, Sarah, Henry, Temperance, and Ann.

Henry Farrier was reared a farmer, but early chose the profession of medicine as his life work, and began reading in his leisure house when working on the farm.  He attended lectures at the University of New York, from which he graduated in 1845.  He first located in Pike County, Alabama, where he lived until 1870, when he moved to Texas and settled in Titus, now Morris County, where he has built up a large practice.  Dr. Farrier has been a hard student and stands high in the medical profession.  Not only on a professional point of view has Dr. Farrier been successful, but also financially, and he is gradually withdrawing from the general practice, giving it up to younger men, although he is always ready to give them the benefit of his longer experience, and is valued by them as a counselor in difficult and dangerous cases.  Dr. Farrier was married in 1851 to Sarah A., daughter of William C. Wannamaker, a native of Georgia.  They have had seven children--Ann W., Pastora, Claudia, Alberta, Frederick W., Charles N. and Sallie.  The sons are prominent merchants of Omaha.  Dr. Farrier is a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellows orders.
