The city of Lone Star, which was officially incorporated March 8, 1951, has a fascinating history which has been traced as far back as 1826. The present city of Lone Star was first known as "Iron Bluff". It was presumable named after the plentiful iron ore deposits in the area.

Lone Star, Texas, is a lake-side community, nestled among stately pines and mature hardwoods, on the east shore of Ellison Creek Reservoir, more popularly known today as "Lone Star Lake". The city is located in Morris County in the Northeast section of the state and is centrally located on U.S. 259 between Interstate 20 to the South and Interstate 30 to the North.

The city of Lone Star today offers its residents a quality of life found in few other places. Quiet lakeside living with a hometown feeling only minutes from the best of shopping, nature watching, medical care, and entertainment through the Arklatex region.

A scenic park is maintained on the eastern shore of Lone Star Lake. The recreation complex includes two baseball fields, concession stand, tennis courts, picnic, playground and swimming areas. Park facilities also feature boat-launching facilities for fishing, water skiing, sailing, and a fishing pier.
