BECK, LESLIE JOE                             September 22, 1926 � September 29, 2008

Graveside services for Leslie Joe Beck, 82, of Freeport, Texas, formerly of Naples, were October 3, 2008, at Wilder Cemetery in Naples, under the direction of Harrison Funeral Home.  Mr. Beck was born September 22, 1926, in Winfield, Texas, the son of Dr. Ralph Leslie Beck and Ethel MCADOO Beck.  He was raised by A O and Emma Tabb of Naples, after his mother�s death.  He died September 29, 2008, at Plantation Health Care Center in Lake Jackson, Texas.  He graduated from Naples High School, served in the United States Army during WWII and was stationed in Italy, and was an operator for Dow for 30 years.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Beck; his parents, and two brothers, Thomas and Ralph.  Survivors include two sisters, Mary Catherine Ward of Commerce, and Helen Owens of Plano; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Glenn and Melinda Wren of Richwood, Texas; niece, Mary Leslie Vance of Paris; and a host of other relatives.  (LOCATION UNKNOWN)

BECK, SALLY                                             October 23, 1928 � May 1, 2004

Graveside services for Mrs. Sally Beck, 75, of Freeport, were Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at Wilder Cemetery with the Reverend Tim Edwards officiating.  Mrs. Beck was born October 23, 1928, in Naples.  She died Saturday, May 1, 2004, in Lake Jackson,   She had moved to the Brazosport area in 1950 and had worked for 30 years at the Dow Chemical Company.  Survivors include her husband, Leslie Joe Beck of Freeport; and one brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Melinda Wren of Richwood. BLACKWOOD, JEAN                             October 18, 1934 � February 24, 1998

Jean Blackwood, 63, of Naples, died at her home Tuesday, February 24, 1998, after a lengthy illness.  Funeral services were at 2 pm, Thursday, February 26, at the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Naples, with the Rev. James Gibbs and the Rev. Hugh Gibbs officiating.  Burial was in the Wilder Cemetery at Naples, under the direction of Alexander Funeral Service of Naples.  Mrs. Blackwood was born October 18, 1934, to Ira and Bertha Smith Franklin in Morris County.  She was a Methodist, a former employee of Redbud Retreat Nursing Home and a lifetime resident of Naples.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James Blackwood, whom she married October 29, 1973.  Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Norris Roach of Naples; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy (Bear) and Karen Barron of Greenwood, AR, Tommy and Debbie Barron of Omaha, and Doug and Kathy Barron of Hughes Springs; three sisters, Lavenia Tye and Vera Carlile, both of Naples, and Mildred Fleming of Alabama; one brother, Johnny Franklin of Nash; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  Serving as pallbearers were Lester Roach, Justin Roach, T. J. Barron, Andy Barron, Jason Roach and D. J. Barron.  In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society or Hospice. (B Row 13)

 

BRICKER, MORRIS E.                                          April 14, 1913 � July 2, 2001

Services for Mr. Morris E. Bricker, 88, of Ft. Worth, were Thursday, July 5, 2001 in the Drawing Room of Thompson�s Harveson & Cole Funeral Home with Dr. Billie Hanks officiating.  Mr. Bricker was born April 14, 1913 in Sonora.  He died Monday, July 2, 2004 in Ft. Worth.  He was a paint and body shop manager for The Western Company for 30 years, ranched in Sonora and the El Dorado area, was ranch foreman of the Upton Ranch in San Angelo and was a member of Ridglea Baptist Church.  Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Ann and David Gardner of Salado; granddaughters, Terri Willingham of Dallas, Merri Corbett and husband, Lee of Sewickley, PA, grandson, Loren Gardner and wife, Tanya, of Houston; two grandsons, Lane and Reid Corbett, and sister, Nee Bricker of Dublin.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Sibyl, on January 13, 1989; and his great-granddaughter, Sadie Corbett.  Interment was at Wilder Cemetery.  (A Row 15)

 

BROWN, LOIS                                       January 20, 1919 � November 11, 1998

Lois Brown, 79, of Dallas, died Wednesday, November 11, 1998.  Funeral services were at 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 14, at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Naples with the Rev. Bobby Jones officiating.  Burial was in the Wilder Cemetery in Naples.  She was born January 20, 1919 and was a member of the Fowler Bible study group, was self-employed with a classic doll business and a longtime resident of Dallas.  Survivors include one son, Steven T. Brown of Dallas; two daughter, Zoe Stone of Dallas and Cathy Warren of Dallas; one sister, Esther Dobecka of Pasadena; and four grandchildren, Peter, Andy, and Ben Warren of Dallas and Naomi Brown of Dallas.  (Location Unknown)

 

COKER, CHESTER MILTON                January 11, 1925 � November 6, 2005

Services for Mr. Chester Milton Coker, 80, of Naples, were to be conducted Thursday, November 10, 2005, at 2:30 pm, at First Baptist Church in Naples with the Rev. Barry Brown and the Rev. William Coker officiating.  Mr. Coker was born January 11, 1925, in Naples.  He died Sunday, November 6, 2005, at Titus Regional Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant, following a massive heart attack.  He was a graduate of Naples High School and Southern Methodist University.  He was the former president of Bowie County Savings & Loan and First State Bank of Bishop, a former owner of Coker Ford Agency in Naples, a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, a 50-year member of Belden Masonic Lodge of Naples, and a lifetime resident of Naples.  Mr. Coker had a lifelong passion for learning.  One could not visit with him for long that he wouldn�t bring up some new topic that he was exploring, or ask questions about some endeavor in which that person was involved.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Lee and Chester E. Coker.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be missed by family and friends.  Survivors include his wife, Chris Coker of Naples; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chester C. and Cynthia Coker of Corpus Christi, and Milton E. and Kelly Coker of Longview; one daughter and son-in-law, D. Lea and David Haywood of Dallas; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Blanche Coker of Pittsburg; one sister and brother-in-law, Paulette and Charles Coker of Naples; seven grandchildren, Jason Coker of Longview, Ehren Coker of Austin, K. C. Coker of San Francisco, Arielle Coker of Corpus Christi, Ashley, Jackie and April Adkins of Longview, and one great-grandchild, Kaleb Coker.  Interment was to be in Wilder Cemetery in Naples, under the direction of Alexander Funeral Service of Naples.  (Location Unknown)

 

GARRETT, WINNIE LOU MITCHELL   November 17, 1912-March 31, 1999

Services for Mrs. Winnie Lou Mitchell Garrett, 86, of Naples, were held Friday, April 2, 1999, at the Naples First Baptist Church with the Reverends Joe Dan Perkins, Tommy Weems and Bob Pearce officiating.  Mrs. Garrett was born Nov. 17, 1912 in Bodcow, AR.  She died Wednesday, Mar. 31, 1999 at Redbud Retreat Nursing Home in Naples.  She married Leon Garrett Aug. 15, 1931.  They were the owners of Garrett�s Department Store in Naples for many years.  She was a member of the Naples First Baptist Church and a longtime resident of Naples.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon, on June 28, 1989.  Mrs. Garrett is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Marcel Garrett of Naples and Hershel and Linda Garrett of Nashville, AR; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lavenia and Robert Jordan of Hensley, AR and Linda and Tom Malin of Cabot, AR; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Pallbearers were Kevin Malin, Jimmy England, Brian England, Joe Mitchell England, Thomas Pearson and Earl Downs.  Honorary pallbearers were deacons. HALL, EDDY GLYNN DAVIS                September 9, 1942 � February 4, 2004

Eddy Glynn Davis Hall, 61, of Ozona, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed from this life to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 4, 2004.  She was born September 9, 1942, in Naples, to Glynn and Frances Davis.  Survivors include her husband, Randy Hall of Ozona; children, Karen and husband Jeff Slagle of Denison, Kelley Hicks of Sherman, Paul and wife, Lana Hicks of Naples, Reid Hall of San Angelo; six grandchildren, Justin and Brittany Vissering and Jordan and Ryan Slagle of Denison, and Austin and Jared Hicks of Naples; sister, Wanda Ramsey of Ft. Wayne, IN; brother-in-law, L. A. Carroll of Leavenworth, KS; four nephews; four nieces; extended family, Clois and Isabelle Hicks of Naples; and numerous cousins and beloved friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Marshall Davis; two sisters, Lurline Carroll and Barbara McEntire.  Graveside services were Saturday, February 7, 2004, at Wilder Cemetery in Naples.  (Location Unknown)

 

HAMPTON, ROBERT WILSON SR   November 22, 1918 � January 29,  2007

Services for MR. ROBERT WILSON HAMPTON, SR., 88 , of Shreveport, formerly of Naples, were Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at Nail-Haggard Chapel in Daingerfield, with the Rev. Jim Jones officiating.  Mr. Hampton was born November 22, 1918, in Naples, Texas. He died January 29, 2007, in Shreveport.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II.  He was retired from Illinois Central Railroad and was a Methodist.  Preceding him in death was his wife, Mary Ruth Hampton.  Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert W. �Bob� and Rena Hampton of Los Lomas, NM; a sister, Naomi Hampton Thornton of Dallas; two grandchildren, Kelly Whitaker and Sean Hampton; and a great-grandchild, Jonathan Whitaker.  Interment was in the Wilder Cemetery at Naples. HIGGINS, JUANITA E DEAL                   September 18, 1909 � April 9, 1998

Juanita Higgins, 88, of Naples, died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at her residence.  Funeral services were at 10 am, Monday, April 13, at the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Naples, with Les Johnson officiating.  Burial was at Wilder Cemetery at Naples under the direction of Alexander Funeral Service of Naples.  Ms. Higgins was born September 18, 1909, in Collin County, TX.  She was a member of the Church of Christ, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a longtime resident of Naples.  Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Miller of San Antonio; a brother, Eugene Deal of Irving; and a number of nieces and nephews.  Serving as pallbearers were Willie Giles Smith, Tommy G. Services for Mrs. Marlene Higgins, 73, of Naples, were Saturday, May 21, 2005, at First Baptist Church in Omaha with the Rev. Leon McDowell and the Rev. Dwaine Higgins officiating.  Mrs. Higgins was born May 5, 1932, in Bette.  She died Thursday, May 19, 2005 in Longview.  She was a Baptist, a homemaker and a longtime resident of Naples.  Survivors include her husband, Keith Higgins of Naples; one son and daughter-in-law, Dwaine and Barbara Higgins of Omaha; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Brad Stovall of Longview and Dana and Marty Shankle of Midlothian; one sister and brother-in-law, Dean and David Horton of Mt. Pleasant; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Gerald King of Omaha; three brothers-in-law, Ken Burch of Ardmore, OK, Billy Dale of Mt. Pleasant and Tommy G. Heard of Naples; seven grandchildren, Steven and Tiffany Stovall of Hallsville, Angie Stovall of Longview, Misty and Doug Clay of Naples, Mandy Higgins and Caleb Higgins of Omaha, Christy Shankle and Jessie Shankle of Midlothian; four great-grandchildren, Cody, Chance, Garrett and Krislyn Stovall; and a number of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Frankie Burch.  Interment was at Wilder Cemetery.  Pallbearers included Gary Burch, Mike Horton, Scott LaFond, Jimmy Hart, Ronnie Amerson, Chris Heard and Doug Clay.  (Location Unknown)

 

MCENTIRE, BARBARA DAVIS                         December 19, 1935 � April 28, 1983

Barbara McEntire, 47, of Naples, died at her home of natural causes Thursday afternoon of last week.  Funeral services were at 3 pm, Saturday, at the Hanner Funeral Home Chapel in Naples, with the Rev. Andy Andrews and the Rev. Wayne Cannon officiating.  Burial was in the Wilder Cemetery in Naples.  Mrs. McEntire was born December 19, 1935, at Naples.  She was a Baptist, and a registered nurse on the staff of the Redbud Retreat Nursing Home at Naples.  Survivors include her husband, Bobby McEntire of Naples; a daughter, Lynn Waits of Naples; a son, Scott McEntire of Naples; her mother, Mrs. Frances Davis of Naples; and two sisters, Eddy Hall of Naples, and Wanda Ramsey of Ft. MCMICHAEL, DOROTHY RUTH HOOKS            Feb 1, 1918 � Feb 16, 2006

Services for Mrs. Dorothy Ruth Hooks McMichael, 88, of Naples, were Saturday, February 18, 2006, at First United Methodist Church in Naples with the Rev. Tim Edwards officiating.  Mrs. McMichael was born February 1, 1918, in Enloe, TX, to Veda and Arthur Hooks.  She died Thursday, February 16, 2006, in Longview.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church, a retired beautician and former owner of Dorothy�s Beauty Shop, a homemaker and a longtime resident of Naples.  Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Bette and Kenneth Ayers of Carrollton, Cherilyn and Tommy Mills of Naples and Janie and James Boles of Longview; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lowell and Barbara McMichael of Longview and Ronnie and Peggy McMichael of Austin; one sister, Kathleen Humphreys of Lubbock; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Reid McMichael; her parents, Veda and Arthur Hooks; one sister, Mary Ballard; and one brother, Charles Hooks.  Interment was at Wilder Cemetery.  Pallbearers included Tony Ayers, Mark Munkres, Todd Ayers, Toby Mills, John Freeman, Jeff Conway and Barry Tyndell.  (B Row 5)

 

MOORE, JAMES RICHARD                                     January 4, 1918 � May 22, 2007

Services for Mr. JAMES RICHARD MOORE, 89, of Daingerfield were May 25, 2007, at Nail-Haggard Funeral Home with Dr. William Rustenhaven officiating.  Mr. Moore was born January 4, 1918, in Lake Charles, LA.  He died May 22, 2007, in Longview.  He was a CPA for Haskins and Sells, a rancher, a former member of the Daingerfield City Council, and a WWII Army veteran.  Survivors include his wife, Martha S Moore; a son, Charles Thomas Moore; two stepdaughters and one stepson-in-law, Judi Freeman, Jene Freeman Buckner and Jas A Buckner; three grandsons and one granddaughter-in-law, Tyler Moore, Will Moore, and Jake and Britten Buckner; a granddaughter, Carrie Buckner; and one great-granddaughter.  Burial was in Wilder Cemetery in Naples. MUDD, ANNA BELLE                             November 5, 1914 � October 21, 2004

Services for Mrs. Anna Belle Mudd, 89, of Naples, were Wednesday, October 27, 2004, at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy Conatser officiating.  Mrs. Mudd was born November 5, 1914, in Mattheson, CO.  She died Thursday, October 21, 2004, in Omaha.  She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, an avid bell collector, and had lived in Corpus Christi, Guam and Glennhaven, CA before moving to Naples.  Survivors include her husband, Robert Mudd of Naples; and one brother, Roland R. Cusick of Santa Maria, CA.  She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Clark and Mildred Butler; and three brothers, Robert, Alva and Wayne Cusick.  Interment was at Wilder Cemetery in Naples.  (Location Unknown)

 

ROACH, NORRIS                                             October 4, 1931 � April 11, 2007

Services for Mr. Norris Roach, 75, of Naples, were April 13, 2007, at the Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Neely and the Rev. Dan McGuire officiating.  Mr. Roach was born October 4, 1931 in Bassett, TX.  He died April 11, 2007, at his home.  He was a retired millwright from Red River Army Depot, an Army veteran of the Korean War, and a Baptist.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Billy Ray, Roach; and his parents, Lester Luther Roach and Bertha Mae Thacker Roach.  Survivors include his wife, Loretta Roach of Naples; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Lester and Heather Roach of Atlanta, Justin and Amy Roach of Cornett, and Jason Roach of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Buddy and Beth Roach of Hughes Springs, and Gerald and Cora Lee Roach of Longview; a sister and brother-in-law; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Don Wilbanks of Cornett; a granddaughter, Madison Roach of Longview; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Burial was in Wilder Cemetery at Naples.  (Location Unknown)

 

STICE, CLETA E BLUBAUGH                          June 8, 1912 � October 5, 2006

Services for Mrs. Cleta Stice, 94, of Tulsa, OK, were Tuesday, October 10, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church in Naples with the Rev. Tim Edwards officiating.  Mrs. Stice was born June 8, 1912, in Tonkawa, OK.  She died Thursday, October 5, 2006, in Tulsa, OK.  She was a retired school teacher having taught 42 years.  She was a member of Business and Professional Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the First United Methodist Church, and a former resident of Omaha and Blackwell, OK.  She was a wonderful storyteller who could literally make a story come to life.  Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Roleta and Hershel Welch of Naples and Sheryl and Dr. Mike Smith of Tulsa, OK; three grandchildren, Greg and Lori Wilcox of Richardson, Kaisa and Clint Wallis of Edmond, OK, and Channing and Christina Smith of Tulas, OK; six great-grandchildren; Grant and Caroline Wilcox, Cam, Ian and Thatcher Wallis and Channing Smith, Jr.; one sister, Maxine Farris of West Linn, OR; and one brother, Marvin Blubaugh of Ponca City, OK.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Stice.  Interment was at Wilder Cemetery.  Pallbearers included Ben Grimes, Dan Hampton, Jimmy Brown, Wes Welch, Hayden Lee and Bill Henderson.  (B Row 14)

 

 

TYE, ELLEN LAVENIA TYE                 July 26, 1926 � February 8, 2008

Services for Ms. Ellen Lavenia Tye, 81, of Naples, were February 11, 2008, at First Baptist Church of Naples, with the Rev. James Boyd Gibbs and Rev. Bryan Peck officiating.  Ms. Tye was born July 26, 1926, in Meridian, MS.  She died February 8, 2008, in Omaha.  She was a homemaker and a member of Liberty Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Tye; son, the Rev. Hugh Gibbs; daughter, Gail Tye; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.  Survivors include four daughters and two sons-in-law, Brenda Coffey of Naples, Donna and Danny Johnson of New Boston, Wanda McKinney of Clarksville, and Vicki and Jacob Qatato of Haltom City; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Boyd and Valerie Gibbs of Daingerfield, and Wayne and Norma Tye of AZ; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Vera and Hugh Carlisle of Naples, and Mildred Fleming of AL; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Johnny and Maria Franklin of Nash, and Mary Richardson of Naples; sister-in-law, Ruby Gibbs, cousin, Louise Paige and special friend, Margaret Carter all of Naples; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.  Burial was in Wilder Cemetery under the direction of Harrison Funeral Home.  (B Row 12)

 

TYE, HORACE B.                                      January 6, 1922 � February 18, 1996

HORACE B. TYE, 74, of Naples, died Sunday, February 18, at Wadley Regional medical Center in Texarkana, following a lengthy illness.  Funeral services were at 3 pm, Tuesday, February 20, 1996, at the Rocky Branch Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Hinkle, the Rev. James Gibbs and the Rev. Hugh Gibbs officiating.  Burial was in the Wilder Cemetery at Naples under the direction of Alexander Funeral Service of Naples.  Mr. Tye was a retired employee of Red River Army Depot, a member of the Rocky Branch Missionary Baptist Church, and a veteran of World War II where he served in the Philippines.  He was a former resident of Magnolia, AR.  Survivors include his wife, Ellen Lavenia Tye of Naples; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Norma Tye of Phoenix, AZ; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie and Jacob Qatato of Ft. Worth, and Wanda and Charlie McKinney of Annona; four step children, James and Val Gilbbs of Mexia, Donna and Danny Johnson of New Boston, Brenda and David Coffey of Omaha, and Hugh and Ruby Gibbs of Maud; 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; one brother, Grady Tye of Mathis, TX; and a number of other relatives and friends.  Serving as pallbearers were Mr. Tye�s grandsons, Kevin Gerstenkorn, Chuck McKinney, Ibrahim Qatato, Jeff Johnson, David J. WELCH, HERSHEL G.                                        June 11, 1935 � April 20, 2009

Hershel G. (Sweetpea) Welch, 73, of Richardson, Texas, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away April 20, 2009.  He was a native and life-time resident of Naples, Texas, a graduate of James Bowie High School, a graduate of Texas A&M class of 1957, and a member of the Corps of Cadets.  He served in the U. S. Army and Army Reserves for 26 years retiring in 1979 as a Lieutenant Colonel.  Mr. Welch was born June 11, 1935, at the Welch homeplace on Sulphur River in Bowie County to Myrtle and Rube Welch.  He owned and operated WelchGas and Welch Energy for 50 years, served on the Morris County National Bank Board of Directors, President of Naples Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Naples United Fund, charter member and President of the Naples-Omaha Lions Club.  He was responsible for fund raising and construction of the gazebo at the downtown Centennial Park in honor of former business and civic leaders.  He was an active member of many other local civic organizations and gave generously to community related benefits.  He was a Past President of Texas Propane Gas Association, Chairman of the Board of Texas Propane Insurance Trust, and was honored in 1985 by the National Propane Gas Association for �Outstanding Marketing Efforts by a Small Independent Business.�  He was preceded in death by his parents, Rube and Myrtle Welch, brothers, George and J. B. Welch, and sisters, Jamie Ashford and Penny Welch.  He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Roleta Welch, sons, Wes Welch and wife, April of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Greg Wilcox and wife, Lori of Richardson, Texas; grandchildren, Zack and Cannen Welch and Grant and Caroline Wilsox; along with many family members and friends.  Visitation will be at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples, Thursday, April 23, from 6 to 8 p.m.  Funeral services will be Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Naples, at 2 p.m., under the direction of Harrison Funeral Service.  Donations in memory of Hershel may be mailed to James Bowie Alumni Scholarship Fund, PO Box 1065 or Wilder Cemetery Fund, PO Box 336 both in Naples, TX 75568.  (Location Unknown)
