LOCATION: The cemetery is located along the KCS
right-of-way southwest of downtown Daingerfield. Cross over the tracks (north)
at the intersection of CR 1101 (Sycamore Rd.) and CR 1103. On the left just
over the tracks is a gate which opens into a roadway. The cemetery is at .3
mile at the end of this roadway.
The Richard Moore Family settled in this area in 1846.
Richard's first wife, Sarah, died soon after they arrived in Texas and is
believed to be buried here. The oldest burial date on a marked grave is 1894.
There are many unmarked graves here.
This cemetery is known to be predominantly white.
The cemetery was read south to north on January 1, 1999 by
Gerald Hammock and Charles Steger.
TEXAS
HISTORICAL MARKER
RICHARD MOORE
CEMETERY
Brothers Richard and Burrell Moore and their families
came to Texas in 1840. Richard, his wife Sarah, and their children moved to
this area in 1846. Sarah died soon after the move and is believed to be buried
here in an unmarked grave. Although the oldest marked grave dates to 1894,
there is evidence of a number of earlier burials. Richard Moore (1817-1904),
and his second wife, Nancy (1844-1904) are buried here, as are four generations
of their family. A slave cemetery is located to the southeast of the family
graveyard on part of the Moore Farmstead.
