Engdahl (1964)
Wife of George Engdahl, stock farmer and amateur historian near Brady,
Texas, descended from Swedish immigrants who founded the community
of East Sweden, Texas. Includes genealogical and scrapbook
material concerning the Widen, Peterson and Engdahl families.

Spiller (1890-1972)
Papers focus on ranching and agricultural endeavors and
include correspondence, financial materials, legal materials, printed
and scrapbook material, newsclippings, literary productions and
genealogical material. Thomas Edward Spiller was a farmer and rancher
in the small community of Voca, McCulloch County, Texas. The Spiller
family's ranching and farming interests have been continuous there
since 1865.

Papers, Richards, Frank "Buck" McDonald, 1869-1929
583 leaves, Includes correspondence, financial material and legal
material. Bulks (1869-1921) with land titles from McCulloch County.
Rancher, banker, and philanthropist. Born 1855 in Sherman, Texas. Moved
to McCulloch County, Texas in 1876 and settled on a ranch near Corn
Creek. Served a term and a half as Mayor of Brady, Texas, elected first
president of the Brady National Bank when it was chartered in 1905.
Served until his death in 1943.
Papers, Burkett,
Nathan Boone.
1895
37 leaves, Consists of Burkett's memoirs, which he dictated to his
son-in- law. Later, grandson J. W. Arnold prepared a typescript taking
some liberties in the process. The original is in delicate condition.
Republic of Texas pioneer, and Texas Ranger. Born October 20, 1820 near
Jefferson City, Missouri. Came with his family at age nine to Texas and
settled in the DeWitt Colony near Gonzales. During the Republic decade
served with Captain Mathew Caldwell's Texas Ranger unit and took part
in the Battle of Plum Creek (1840) and the Battle of Salado in (1842).
In January, 1895, while living at Moulton, Texas, he dictated a memoir
of those early days to his son-in-law, who wrote them down.
Baker Publishing Company (Fort Stockton, Tex.) Records,
1929 -1969
2,611 leaves Includes financial material, legal material and printed
material pertaining to the Baker Publishing Company, land sales and
leases, and oil and gas leases. Collection bulks (1929-1958) with
financial material pertaining to the publishing company. Publishing
company founded by Texas newspaper owner George Baker. Born in 1909,
Baker owned several Texas newspapers including the Sonora, Texas,
"Devil's River News"
(1931-1934), and the Fort Stockton, Texas, "Pioneer" (1934-1970). Baker
also served as representative to the Texas Legislature (1969-1973),
and as director of the Pecos State Bank. His other Fort Stockton
businesses
included the Jay Chancellor Office Supply and Stockton Printing
Company.
