Funeral services for Edward John Barkley, 43, of Bay City will be held 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Hugh Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Mr. Barkley was born April 23, 1947, to Howard Norman and Margaret Kilbride Barkley Sr. in Bay City and died April 6, 1991, at his home.

He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Barkley Williams of Bay City; a niece, Margaret Barkley Golsbee of Houston; a sister-in-law, Cleo Blaylock Barkley of Houston; and a nephew, Travis Williams.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Funeral services for H. N. Barkley Jr., 59, of Houston were scheduled for 2 p. m. today at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Milton McWilliams officiating. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mr. Barkley was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Bay City and died Oct. 11, 1986, at Southwest Memorial Hospital, Houston.

He was a member of the Episcopal church.

Survivors include his wife, Cleo Barkley of Houston; his mother, Margaret Barkley of Bay City; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Dr. Charles A. Goolsbee of Houston; a sister, Elizabeth Piercy of Houston; a brother, Ed Barkley of Bay City; and a grandson, Charles N. Goolsbee of Houston.

Pallbearers include Carl Anderson, Bill Thompson, Vernon Leissner, Layton Blaylock, Paul Funk and Charles N. Goolsbee.

He was preceded in death by a son, H. N. Barkley III.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Mrs. Tillie Batten, 69, a resident of Bay City passed away January 18 at her residence. She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and had resided in Bay City for 35 years. Survivors include: husband, Ronald Batten of Bay City; daughter, Mrs. Norene Walker of Matagorda; 3 sisters, Mrs. John Carroll and Mrs. Linda Mertens both of Premont and Mrs. P. G. Brust of Fort Worth; 2 brothers, Martin Engleking and Henry Engleking both of Premont; 2 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3:30 p. m. January 20 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Milton McWilliams officiating. Interment was at the Cedarvale Cemetery with pallbearers being: J. W. Ingram, Harry Ellis, A. W. Hearn, Millard Brooking, Bill Luder, Bill Fehmel, Galen Savage and Harley Savage. Arrangements with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Laurence J. Beall, 82, of Bay City died October 12. He was born June 25, 1898 in Decatur, Texas and was a resident of Bay City since 1923. Survivors include: wife, Maud Mangum Beall of Bay City; sister, Agnes Nunn of Benton, Louisiana; and a brother Charlie Beall of Decatur, Texas. Funeral services will be held at Taylor Brothers Chapel, Monday, October 13 at 4:00 p. m. with Rev. Frank Seaman officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Pallbearers include: Percy Harrison, James Cheatham, Virgil Fetters, Vernon Leissner, C. B. Keener and John O’Neal. Taylor Bros. Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Maud Beall, 92, will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday in Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Bay City, with the Rev. David Duncan officiating. Burial will be at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mrs. Beall was born May 12, 1897, in Matagorda County to Joe and Pearl Lee Mangum, and died at 1:30 p. m. Dec. 27, 1989, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include nieces Kay Slater of Bay City, Karen Giebert of Alvin, Hollis Yackel of Wharton, and Sarah Gpudeau of Wharton; nephews Charles E. Slater of Bay City, Gary Wayne Slater of Brazoria, Harlan Bass of Houston, Kenneth Bass of Bay City, Clinton Joe Bass of Houston, Verna Lee Bass of Houston; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Marie Katherine Bettge, 81, of Bay City, died July 27, 1995 at Matagorda General Hospital. She was born November 25, 1913 in Chriesman, Texas to Paul and Vinci Jurica Valigura, Sr. She was a resident of Bay City since 1965, was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, and was an Avon Representative. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Flynn of San Antonio; by two sons, Ray Bettge of Charlotte, North Carolina and Paul Bettge of Lake Jackson, Texas; by one sister, Julia Jurek of Ennis, Texas; by one brother, Raymond Valigura of Caldwell, Texas; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p. m. Friday, July 28, 1995 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel. Funeral services are scheduled for 12:00 noon Saturday, July 29, 1995 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Monsignor James Brunner officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

William Victor “Vic” Collins Jr.

A funeral Mass for William Victor “Vic” Collins Jr., 45, was held at 11 a. m. Monday, Dec. 19, 1994, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Msgr. James Brunner officiating. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

A rosary was said at 6 p. m. Sunday, Dec. 18, 1994, in the Taylor Bros. Funeral Home chapel.

Mr. Collins was born July 29, 1949, in Houston, to William Victor and Kathryn Cobb Collins and died Friday, Dec. 16, 1994, in Bay City.

A lifelong resident of the area, he was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, an active supporter of the Raiser Backer, FFA, 4-H and the Matagorda County Fair Association.

Survivors include his wife, Leta Collins of Bay City, his mother, Kitty Collins of Bay City; a daughter, Christina Collins of Killeen; a son, William Victor Collins III of Bay City; two sisters, Mrs. Corinne Collins Heiligbrodt and Mrs. Clair Collins Wilkins, both of Houston.

Pallbearers were Randy Sullivan, Richard Bustos, Nat Bustos, David Siptak, Frank Carr, Gene Klepac, Paul Roe and Jimmy Brangan.

Honorary pallbearers were Gene Farrer, Pete Ashworth, Gerald Bodenburg, Tommy Hale and Gerald Coale.

Funeral services for Betty Ann Craft Daniels of Midland will be held 2 p. m. Wednesday at Ellis Funeral Home, Midland.

Graveside services will be 2 p. m. Friday at Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City, with the Rev. W. A. Haskell officiating.

Mrs. Daniels died Monday in Midland.

Survivors include her husband, Ned R. Daniels of Midland; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ned R. and Jennifer Daniels Jr. and Stephen M. and Amy Daniels; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank S. and Eileen Craft, James D. and Bonnie Craft and Robert W. and Mona Craft, all of Bay City.

Ethel Bell Davis

Funeral services for Ethel Bell Davis, 73, of Wharton will be held 2 p. m. Friday at Wharton Funeral Home, Wharton, with Dr. Donnie Melton officiating. Burial to follow in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City.

Mrs. Davis was born Aug. 11, 1916, in Wharton to Edgar M. and Ethel Pickard Bell and died April 15, 1990, at Amarillo Hospital, following a brief illness.

A lifelong resident of Wharton, she was a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. and a volunteer at Gulf Coast Medical Center.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Wharton.

Survivors include a sister, Sally Littlejohn of Tulia, Texas, and three nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard E Davis, in 1955.

Arrangements are with Wharton Funeral Home, Wharton.

Funeral services for Clyde H. Fox, 88, of Bay City were at 10 a. m. Saturday, May 16 in the Chapel of Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Fox died Wednesday, May 13 in Bay City. He was born Sep. 28, 1909 in McComb, Okla. to Charles and Augusta Cornell Fox. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bay City, a life-long resident of Matagorda County and the owner of the Texaco Service Station in Markham.

He is survived by his wife, Beulah Hunt Fox of Bay City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Fred Law of Collegeport, and Linda and Rothey Rogers of Lago Vista, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Margaret Fox of Pearland; a sister, Gussie Correll of Wharton; his grandchildren Vicki and Lee Jan of Buda, Fred H. and Sherri Law of Bay City, Allen and Suzanne Law of Anton, Cindy and Pepe Carvazas of Savannah, Ga., Tracy Fox of Alvin and Angela and Terry Hopkins of Phoeniz, Az.; and seven great grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Rothey Rogers, Lee Jan, Fred H. Law, Allen Law, Fred Law and Charles Fox.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

Bay City—Paul Garay, 55, of Bay City, died Monday, June 26, 2000.

He was born Oct. 11, 1944, in Bay City, to the late Anastacio and Olivia Torres Garay. He was a truck driver.

Survivors: sons, Paul Garay Jr. and Paul Garay III, both of Bay City; sisters, Rosalinda Zboral, Virginia Garay, Elida Garay and Adela Garay, all of Bay City, Nina Santos of Houston and Erminia Garay of Lake Jackson; brothers, Pete Garay, Julio Garay, Benino Garay, Alfredo Garay, Abel Garay, Adolfo Garay and Steven Garay, all of Bay City, Lee Garay of Houston, Felix Garay of Texas City and Anastacio Garay Jr. of California; and eight grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents.

Prayer services were 7 p. m. Wednesday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel.

Graveside services will be 10 a. m. today at Cedarvale Cemetery. Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City, (979) 245-4613.
